"Dreaming Over the Water on a Koala-Filled Island The sound of the ocean's waves lapping the shore greets you when you wake up at Base Backpackers Magnetic Island. As if that's not enough, this Australian hostel is located on Magnetic Island National Park, just a short ferry ride from Townsville, which is inhabited by koala bears living in their natural environment. The hostel's accommodations are standard, but the location is unprecedented. It will run you only $30 a night for a standard dorm accommodation with shared facilities, and private rooms with a double bed and ensuites are also available. In addition to the location of the hostel, Magnetic Island is a magical place that contains snuggly, sleepy koala bears nestled up in tree tops for you to discover as you hike. They blend in with the Eucalyptus trees they slumber in, so look carefully as you go through the trails: I saw 8 perched in trees (most of the time they're sleeping, as they sleep for over 18 hours each day) on my hike, including a mother with a sleeping joey on its back. If you're looking for a beautiful stay with an incredible experience in nature and are traveling on a budget, this is an amazing place to be."

We visited Nomads Magnetic Island as a group of friends, and they kindly placed all of us in the same room, which made the whole experience even better. The hostel is absolutely beautiful!!! You can really see the care put into its design. It’s literally right on a stunning beach, with tons of outdoor and covered spaces to hang out and relax. There was always good music playing and the vibe was perfect! Another huge plus: we never had to wait for bathrooms. There are plenty, and one was always available. Our room had everything we needed, cold air conditioning, a power outlet, and comfy mattresses and blankets. We woke up full of energy ready to watch the sunrise and explore the island 🥰 We didn’t have a car, but that wasn’t an issue at all because the hostel is right next to a bus stop, and the buses were always on time. I honestly can’t wait to visit again. Thank you so much!!!

Our group of friends stayed at Nomads Magnetic Island for just one night, but the experience was truly amazing. They put us all together in shared room, and it had everything we needed: proper cold air conditioning, good mattresses, and individual outlets. We slept so well and woke up full of energy, ready to catch the sunrise and explore the island! The place is gorgeous everywhere you look. It’s built right next to the ocean, with plenty of spacious areas to relax, socialize, and enjoy the beach atmosphere. The music and overall vibe were perfect. Even after we checked out, the staff stored our bags for us so we could keep exploring the island comfortably without carrying everything around. Getting around without a car was super easy too: the bus stop is right next to the hostel, and buses were always punctual. We’re already planning to come back. Thanks for an unforgettable stay!!!

I stayed at Nomads Magnetic Island in September with five friends, and it was honestly one of the best trips I’ve had in Australia. Magnetic Island itself is stunning, and this hostel makes the experience even more special. It’s located right on the beach with beautiful ocean views, and the pool overlooks the sea, which is just breathtaking. The staff were all super friendly and helpful, making us feel welcome from the very beginning. The rooms, showers, and toilets were very clean, and the food and drink options were also really good. We would definitely recommend Nomads Magnetic Island to anyone—it’s the perfect place to stay if you want an unforgettable experience!

I slept in the mixed 6 dorm, with sea view. Those small huts look pretty new and are clean and comfortable. The walking distance too the toilet and shower building can be a little walk though. The on site restaurant has good burgers, there are themed evenings and the beer is flowing well over here. I recommend to get up early to see the sunrise!

The food here is incredible and the bar games are good fun. The hostel is right on the beach so lovely for sunsets. However, the 6 dorm hostel rooms we stayed in were dusty, unclean and very small considering 6 of us were supposed to fit with all of our luggage and the music at night was way too loud and the DJ was shocking. One of our girls bedding was also brown on the inside. I wouldn't stay here again and wouldn't recommend it either as there are much nicer hostels on the island.

Nice hostel with breathtaking view! The rooms are ok but the while hostel needs a revamp to modernize the commodities. The bathrooms should be cleaned better as well as the rooms and pool.
