If I could give 0 stars, I would.
A couple of years ago we stayed at Basecamp in Canada and had a good experience, so we decided to try their Tahoe location this summer. Big mistake.
We booked a family room for $440/night (with kids and a dog). When we arrived, we were told the hotel is “pet friendly” but not all rooms are pet friendly. Fine, our dog could sleep in the van. But then we walked into the room — and I was shocked. Old, dirty, smelly, stained carpets, grimy windows… it honestly felt like cockroaches would crawl out at night. This building is just an old motel that they slapped some “remodeling” on, but all the odors and filth remain.
The biggest problem: all family rooms are directly in front of their bar and courtyard. People were walking, drinking, yelling, and eating right outside our windows. Zero privacy, zero peace. You can’t even open the windows for air because it smells awful inside, yet outside it’s loud drunk crowds just feet away.
We decided not to stay and booked another (clean, quiet!) hotel nearby — the best decision ever. Later that night, when we came back to walk our dog, we heard live music blasting from a block away. Sure enough, it was Basecamp. The band was still playing way past 10pm. How are families supposed to put kids to sleep in that noise? Who puts “family rooms” right in front of the bar and stage?! Unbelievable.
And no, we did not get any refund. At least we saved our vacation by leaving.
👉 Don’t be fooled by their pictures — they’re outdated and do not reflect reality.
👉 If you’re a family with kids (or anyone who values sleep, cleanliness, and peace), avoid this place.
👉 If you want an overpriced motel where you can drink all night, party, and vomit on the deck — then sure, this is your spot.
Never again. Absolutely do not recommend!
