Stayed a night here in late September to break a journey in half, in what turned out to be a very spacious, airy, clean private room with a retro vibe. Open concept, sliding door separates bathroom area from the rest of the room. Floors were wooden parquet— good for allergy sufferers.
Service was warm and friendly. Pleasant mixed crowd, nice vibe. Clean and decent kitchen. Pleasant dining area for breakfast.
Great location, walked from the main train station with medium sized luggage. You can also take the tram three stops and then walk about a block from the tram stop. As is the norm in Basel and Geneva (maybe throughout Switzerland?), provides free public transport passes for the duration of stay. Migros and Coop supermarkets are near the tram stop. The nearest tram lines get into or close to the Altstadt, the old city, and the heart of the city. Really lovely to walk on both sides of the river.
Just some small issues: the noise— you can hear footsteps and gurgling and other noises from above, and conversations from the courtyard area outside if they are loud. I’m noise sensitive so maybe it won’t bother most people. But people also smoke in the courtyard, so if you have allergies to smoke, you have to close the windows that face the courtyard. Luckily there are also windows on the other side of the room where the bathroom is, although they face the road and that can be a little noisy.
Good value for Basel, and a cosy, homely stay. Would stay again.
