Its a beautiful museum filled with some of the weirdest most intriguing Instruments I have seen. This explains some of the weird ideas on Elden Ring. And in my visit there was an exposition of recycled materials instruments that you could play, by far my favourite part of the tour. 100% recommended, come on the first sunday of the month and the entrance is free

Stopped here for a couple hours on a day trip to Basel. Quite an interesting museum with a wide variety of musical instruments. The staff were very polite, clearly explaining the setup and what was available, and answered any questions. They had an upcycling exhibition on the top floor that was very good and interactive. One thing that could be improved is communicating how the various instruments sounded and compared against each other. Creating a sort of storyline amongst the exhibition for each instrument type. There is a digital guide book, but this seems more like facts than with a full storyline.

A very interesting museum! You will be able to see a lot of old musical instruments, some of them totally out of the ordinary. There is a section dedicated to the materials used to make musical instruments or some of their components, starting with natural materials and ending with their synthetic substitutes. Also, there is a small section dedicated to the sounds produced by birds and the instruments that try to imitate these sounds. You need about 90 minutes to visit it. At least an hour. The area where the museum is located, Lohnhof, is extremely picturesque.

Was not part of our itinerary but my wife loves museums and we just happened to stop at one while catching our breath walking around. Ate up a lot of our time because this museum is huge! Swiss Travel Pass provides free entrance here.

Great place to visit! I loved this museum. Harps, violins, guitars, pianos...a lot of old and beautiful instruments not only from Basel but from all over the world. Totally recommend! And... there's a toilet somewhere upstairs. You can try to play some instruments as well, not many, just some. You'll see them. And... there's also records and other activities. I can't even describe everything here.

3 or 4 floors of musical instruments exhibited in a former prison. Many instruments I've never seen before. Very interesting place.

A small museum at the top of a hill, in a very charming area. The museum is free if you go in the last opening hour (4-5pm except Sundays and holidays). The collection is interesting, but descriptions are only in Swiss German, so you're out of luck if you don't speak the local language. Would still recommend to music enthusiasts, however, especially if you like old music sheets and unusual instruments (some were centuries old!).
