The food and service were amazing here. They were very accommodating when I asked to switch to tofu for the Pad Thai instead of chicken or shrimp. I also found that the dish was actually as spicy as I wanted it to be. Our server was very friendly and the food came out quickly. I would definitely recommend making a stop here.

I stopped by for lunch with a colleague. It was my first time here. Arrived around 1pm and it was not busy at all. Our waiter was pleasant. Our food came out really really fast which made me wonder if it was cooked at the restaurant. Anyways, food was okay but not worth the price tag. I had drunken noodles with beef and that alone was $21 - most expensive I have ever had. The appetizer was like $16 I think, can’t remember. Nothing stood out to me to warrant the price. Glad I checked the restaurant off my list, since I have always wanted to visit. But with the prices, I doubt I may visit again

My husband and I went to Basil Thai Cuisine for Valentine’s Day. The host immediately greeted and welcomed us to the restaurant. The owner also greeted us and is personable; he took us to another section of the restaurant that was more romantic and less traffic compared to the main restaurant. Sophie was our waitress and provided excellent service. She was prompt and knowledgeable. Our appetizers were the wings and that along with the sauce made it competitive with other wing spots I like. I was indecisive about what I wanted and asked Sophie to help me after giving a few of my options. She suggested I get the Basil Mixed Seafood, and I’m happy I selected it. The food was flavorful, and I had enough to take home. My husband got the Red Curry Duck and that was also flavorful. I also recently experienced a loss in my family and cried as a result of my grief. It was my first time out in a restaurant since my loss, and I was emotional. Sophie immediately came and consoled me. She gave me words of comfort, and my husband and I appreciated her for that. Sophie is an amazing waitress. She went above and beyond and her service exceeded my expectations. If you visit Basil, be sure to ask for Sophie.

This was our very first visit to Basil Thai, and we came in for Charlotte Restaurant Week — and I’m so glad we did! I brought my children with me, and from start to finish, the experience was absolutely wonderful. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the food was incredible — full of flavor, beautifully presented, and clearly made with care. A huge part of what made the evening so special was our amazing server, Victoria P. She was patient, friendly, and attentive not only with me but also with my children. Her kindness and professionalism made us feel right at home. Restaurant Week introduced us to this gem, but thanks to the great food and exceptional service from Victoria P, we’ll definitely be back!

I wanted to love it but I didn't. I got the Pad Thai (basic, I know). I expected some level of flavor and quality from Basil Thai that other Thai restaurants around the area wouldn't provide. But Basil Thai was pretty much mediocre. The food was bland, mushy, and oily. Just a step above Thai house (In the university Area). If you want good authentic Thai food, Deejai Thai Restaurant is where its at. Its not comparable.

Google
I have eaten at Basil in Charlotte, NC twice and both times were take out orders. The portion size does not accommodate the price tag. The food is good but not spectacular. I have eaten at other Thai restaurants that have the same entrees, that are amazing and reasonably priced. Needless to say, I will not be eating at Basil again, however I attached a photo of the second pick-up order which costs 30.00 dollars. Basil is overpriced and the food is above average but not amazing.

This place is phenomenal. Took my work team here before an event. Most of them had never tried Thai before. The whole table ordered Pad Thai. Everybody loved it. I had the Pad Kee Mao, and it was perfect.

We're in Charlotte on vacation, and we were trying to find a good place to eat. I wasn't sure about this spot at first because of the reviews, but I figured, why not? And I'm so glad we did! The owner/manager really cares about his food. The menu even tells you what allergens are in each dish. I get why he doesn't want to change things around since it could mess up the flavor (he could explain how taking off something would affect the dish), especially since he's all about keeping it authentic. The waitress was awesome. We got a table pretty fast, and the whole team made sure we had a great time. You gotta try the Pad Thai and Red Duck Curry. And if you want something different, the Thai Tini is cool. It's got vanilla vodka and Thai tea with coconut cream, like a boozy Thai Milk Tea.

Yelp
We had a great experience with Basil. It is a great location in uptown, and we were able to make a reservation so we didn't have to wait. The waitress was so helpful and so attentive. She was very friendly and had our drinks filled. She was the perfect amount of outgoing, but not too much. I normally get a spice level 3 so I got the medium, and it was way spicier than I expected. Basil was formal, but not too formal, we went after going to a Blumenthal event.

Yelp
Disdain from the acting manager left a really bad taste in the mouth. Ownership has a problem with its (bar) manager and kitchen. They took the order at 430p to be ready at 6p only to have it ready 621p. The insult was the poor excuse for the evening's staff lead made no apologies, took no responsibility, claimed no ability to manage anything ("I don't run the kitchen, but yes I am the manager"), and directed that "If I have a problem, come back tomorrow and talk to the manager." The food? Good but not worth the snark from a bar manager, and definitely avoid the $20 spring rolls (not worth $10 for the pair).

Yelp
As locals in the neighborhood, we frequent this restaurant as our weekly favorite. The owner and his staff are so amazing. I highly recommend anyone looking for elevated Thai cuisine to checkout Basil in uptown Charlotte.

Yelp
We had the pleasure of staying in CLT for a night and decided to try this restaurant. I had the best experience and enjoyed a great basil lime martini. Service was great, the waiter was nice and very fast. We met the chef and owner and we was very welcoming. I would definitely recommend going to Basil. Atmosphere is relaxing, quiet, great place for a date night!

Yelp
Stopped by on a Thursday night at 8:56, only to find out they close at 9 PM--not 10 PM like it says on Google and Yelp.

Yelp
This place is way above its rating on Yelp. I know they had a bad stretch at the end of Covid, but I have to say, this is possibly the best Thai Cuisine in all of Charlotte. You have a chef that cares about his food, serving some amazing dishes. This place should easily be above a 4.5 in my opinion, because that is how good the food is coming out of the kitchen these days!!

Yelp
The food had amazing taste! We did the private dining room for an occasion, so the dining area was very quiet and calm. It was a little dark but overall it was a calm environment. Our server even allowed us to play our own Gospel music over the PA for our event. With that being said, we had the best server. She was kind, patient and helpful! My order consisted on the Chicken & Shrimp Pad Thai and the Strawberry Fried Ice cream: The chicken and shrimp pad thai was so fulfilling and it tasted amazing! I had leftovers and ate those too and it was still good. I did add a sweet and sour sauce on top, which was a little spicy but not overbearing. The fried ice cream was interesting. The breading had an artificial taste. Almost tastes like french toast but not as good. However, the ice cream was some of the best ice cream I've ever tasted and I mean that wholeheartedly. I would go back, just for some ice cream on its own without the breading! The bathroom in the private dining area was also very clean as well!

Yelp
Chef was very rude!! It's worst experience at this basil location. When we ordered, requested the food without eggs. Server did help to order few dished the way we wanted. We were in group. Chef came to our table and said "this is not a vegan or Indian restaurant". Franchisor and the owner of this resturant should take some steps of this Chef rudeness!!

Yelp
Some of the best food in Charlotte and a fantastic date spot. The basil barramundi is to die for but I try to order something new each time and have never been disappointed. Hands down the best Thai food I've had in the US and honestly rivals some of the best dishes I've tried in Thailand. Wonderful cocktails too, plus it's in a fun spot if you want to bar hop a bit after dinner.

Yelp
While in town for a conference, I visited this restaurant twice. The service was fantastic and very attentive. The pad Thai had the perfect amount of spice. The pad see eu had just the right combination of beef, noodles and broccoli. The fried rice was the perfect level for medium. The restaurant is conveniently located to downtown and prompt service especially for downtown customers.

Yelp
I love this place! Their Thai food is always super fresh and cooked to perfection! My favorite thing on their menu is Pad Woon Sen! Give it a try

Tasha W.

Yelp
I order here regularly. Today was it for me. I had a piece of metal Brillo/pot scrubber in my Pad Thai. It was a to-go order. Two weeks ago egg shells were in my food. The attention to detail and management is going down. No longer my favorite place!

Yelp
I've been three times and had a fantastic meal each time. The staff are great, and seem like they could use some help! Clean, nicely decorated, good parking, outdoor patio dining available. Had Pad Thai last night, as did my foodie teenager. We both enjoyed a Thai tea / coffee, too. I had their Pho when I was there last week and it was top notch, as well. Love their summer rolls with shrimp!

Yelp
Decent food. Terrible customer service. I signed up to receive their "deals" and coupons only for them to refuse to honor it because "our manager canceled the service, so I'm unsure why it is still being sent out." The promo I was attempting to use was for online use only; however when I attempted to use it online, the promo code did not work, so I proceeded to call the restaurant. When I asked the host asked to double check, she pretended to ask the manager. Anyway, went ahead & placed my order online. Picked up my order only to realize once I got home that my order was incorrect. I called the restaurant 3x before someone finally picked up. The manager was "really busy" and was unable to come to the phone according to the host. The host took my information down and said the manager would return my call. The manager did not return my call that evening and i attempted to call back during their lunch hours the next day; however, nobody picked up. I waited and called back several times after 5 (when they open for dinner) and was finally able to get someone on the phone. I explained the situation and the host again explained that she provided my information to the manager, but he "has been really busy" and was "currently really busy" and would give me a call back. I asked for an approximate time to which she could not answer. I told her not to worry as I would be walking in to speak to him since he is too busy and she proceeded to tell me she "can't guarantee that he would be able to speak with me" when I got there. Upon arrival, the host tells me the same story about the manager being busy - which to his credit he was busy; however, I am a customer just like everyone else. The host immediately offers me a refund for the up-charged portion of the meal that was missed, but the issue At this point was less about the $4 and more about the piss-poor customer service. I attempted to explain BOTH situations to the manager and was continuously Cut off and talked over. Eventually, rather than handling the situation like a professional manager of what is supposed to be a nice restaurant, the manager threw up his hands, said "thank you,"and stormed away while I am expressing my concerns. If being a manager is too stressful or too much for one person, then changes need to be made. There was no apology provided or understanding from his end. It was clear that I did not matter as a customer. Awful! Find a new manager, this one is clearly overwhelmed and does not care about providing even halfway decent service.

Yelp
Not the worst pad Thai I've had. Not the most authentic as I'm in charlotte (no shade), and the menu offers pho (Vietnamese). But it comes with both chicken and shrimp (the real way to do it) Flavor was a bit sweeter than normal but is still good. Service was def one of the best I've ever experienced in the south!

Yelp
Bland food. No flavor and over priced. Anyone who likes the food here prob never had really good Thai food.

Yelp
I had a solo dining experience and it's was very nice. ALL of the staff is very professional and nice. Norm was my waiter for the evening. He made sure to answer all of my questions adequately. I went straight for an entree and drink. I order the Basil Duck and It Takes Two To Tango Mango drink. The duck comes with a side of white Jasmine rice, pun intended lol. I wasn't expecting the duck plate to be so large. I couldn't finish it all. Ended up taking the rest home. The drink was made well. All of the ingredients were very well balanced. I ordered the black cherry cheesecake for dessert. I enjoyed the fact it was black cherry, instead of boring strawberry. I feel that really made a difference. I'll be back ^_^

Yelp
Basil Thai was cozy, comforting and flavorful! Located in uptown Charlotte tucked away in the bottom of an apartment building. It's small and inconspicuous so you might miss it but it's worth a stop. Their menu is small but includes lots of Thai staple dishes. We started with spring rolls and those were light, crispy and had a nice mix of veggies in them. The sauce was sweet but not too overpowering. For entrees I got the Pad See Ew which is one of my favorites and this one was great. The noodles were made perfectly and the sauce was nicely balanced. One note is that I would have loved more veggies in the dish since I didn't get any meat. Their prices are pretty high compared to the dish itself and ingredients which is why I chose 4 stars instead of 5.

Yelp
Absolutely awful service Sat on hold for 25 minutes to be told by the hostess they will not accept any orders over thw phone then was hung up on when tried to call after placing order by same hostess then when picking up food, was told they couldn't change order even though I spoke with hostess right after placing order Finally picked up food and it was wrong INSANE Worst customer service in all of of Charlotte Entire order was burnt as well

David M.

Yelp
First time diners here. My wife and I shared Massaman Curry. If you wanted us to come back, it would have been smart not to scrimp on ingredients. We basically ended up with a thin sauce, a hunk of sticky rice, a puny bit of potato and onion and zero cashews. . Service, however, was fantastic!

Yelp
Owner, Chai Eang is a very rude and nasty individual. No care or courtesy for the customers that keep his restaurant open. To preface, my family has frequented this restaurant more than I can count in the past 10 years and tonight after a complaint over an overcooked dish on our order of over $100+ we received the nastiest service from the owner himself, even though we were pleasant about the scorched, dry overcooked meal. Instead of handling our issue with kindness and compassion as an owner he was very dismissive, very rude, defensive and overall careless. I'm unsure how this business is still operable with his level of unprofessionalism. Hopefully you will ever have to deal with him directly like we did. Unfortunately we will NEVER go to or spend any of our money or time on Basil Charlotte again.

Yelp
I visited Basil in Charlotte NC with my family on Sunday, January 19 for dinner. There were 7 of us including 2 under 14. We were seated quickly and our server was an excellent communicator. Discussing food choices with the younger ones. The food was excellent! All enjoyed their meals. I generally eat only half of my meal, but this time, I devoured everything!! Complements to the chef, staff and all who made our dinner special.

Yelp
My friends and I have put together a review of Basil Thai Cuisine: @Rogue-Mariner X, oh, what a sadly incorrect review. I am proud to say that Basil Thai Cuisine was in fact wonderful and I found myself enjoying its lowkey, down to earth feeling. I am quite the fan of your reviews and found that my exquisite pallet celebrated the spoils of the tangy, delicious Pad Thai and Larb. The experience was legendary and an adventure FOR SURE. First of all, they gave us plates AND THEN took them away! Very fancy. Then a mariachi band came in making a nice blend of culture, so much that I was overwhelmed. Then, the water refiller said "Don't give me a moving target, I need a scope for that" then he proceeded to 360' no scope my glass The larb was exquisite, like Ewan Mcgreggor and Margot Robbie had a baby on my tounge. The fried rice, pretty mid ngl. The music looped making it that much more lowkey. Overall, I give it a mid rating but want to thank you for being in my life. Amen. My sweet Basil, where oh where do I even begin... I'll start by mentioning this place's chill, "lowkey" atmosphere. I felt welcomed and as though I was a celebrated VIP. The service was immaculate and the food bounced amongst my taste buds like children in an inflatable bounce house. It made my stay in Charlotte truly legendary and I will fondly remember this experience for many years to come. The moment you step into Basil Thai Cuisine, you're enveloped by the intoxicating aromas of lemongrass, holy basil, and fragrant jasmine rice. Each dish was a masterful symphony of Thai flavors - from the perfectly balanced Pad Thai to the transcendent Red Curry with its harmonious blend of sweet, spicy, and savory notes. The Larb arrived perfectly seasoned with ground beef, fresh mint, and toasted rice powder, delivering a bright and zesty punch with every bite. The chef's expert handling of spices transformed every plate into an adventure for the palate, while the attentive staff and elegant presentation made the entire experience mega lowkey. Ah, Basil, where to begin!! This lowkey Thai cuisine spot is a singular experience to remember. The atmosphere created between the mariachi band and the looping music makes this the chillest place in all of Charlotte. The excellent food and service was excellent. I got mild chicken fried rice, and water. What really makes this restaurant what I would call "fine dining" is the vibe, which I would consider to be lowkey. So much so, that although I would love to recommend this legendary place, I can't ask you to tell your friends about it. Never tell anyone about this restaurant, for I fear the raucous of the masses would corrupt this experience of pure joy and serenity. If you're searching for an underground gem that serves up flavor-packed dishes with authentic flair, Basil Thai Cuisine is where you need to be. This spot is so lowkey, it feels like you've stumbled into a secret society for food lovers. The staff? Quietly attentive and knowledgeable, almost as if they're in on the secret. What truly sets Basil Thai apart is its vibe. It's lowkey cozy, with just the right amount of charm. If you're into underground spots that aren't on every foodie's radar yet, this is the one. Get there before everyone else does, but don't tell too many people. Let's keep this lowkey, okay? If I had to describe this place in one word, it would be "lowkey". Thank you, Basil Thai Cuisine.

Yelp
This place was just perfect. We had just flown into Charlotte and we were staying at the Omni, which is less than 4 blocks away. This place was warm and inviting and so trendy in my opinion. The ambiance was great. Service was friendly and the food was amazing. Authentic Thai for sure. You will definitely love this place. I can't wait to visit Charlotte again, a visit to Basil which will be first on my list.

Yelp
The first time I ate here it was good. Food, service, cocktails - all great. The stuffed shrimp and pad Thai were fresh and flavorful and our server was amazing. The best thing about Basil is the atmosphere. It was pretty just for a Wednesday night. This time it was the complete opposite. The service was slow, the pineapple mojitos didn't taste like pineapple or mojitos. We sent them back and the overbearing chef came over to tell us to "be careful ordering because mojitos have a lot of mint and they "don't like to throw drinks away". WTF??? My friends spicy margarita was a bust too. The waiter asked one of my friends if she would "like another drink darling" like we were at a club. The chef seemed to do everything but cook - he "assisted" the hostesses, cleared our table between courses and delivered food to the table. The food was definitely not like I remembered. The "icing on the cake" was the $10 I paid for Key Lime Pie! I got dessert to go so imagine my surprise when I found out it was a plastic container with an individual serving of Kenny's Minis pre-made key lime pie like you'd get at the grocery or 7-11 - they're $3 at the grocery store - I feel like I was ripped off! It was accompanied by a container with a poof of whipped cream that was overbeaten - it was one step away from butter. The waiter said they had a new exec chef - he's awful. It was so much better before.

Yelp
We had a phenomenal meal here at Basil last night with a large party of 8 people. The food is top notch and everything is fresh and made from scratch. You can tell they care here with the quality of the food. The service is great and we love the vibe and atmosphere. This is definitely the best Thai in Charlotte. The shrimp fresh rolls are amazing and one of our favorite appetizers anywhere are the freshly made stuffed shrimp. I had the Pad Prik with chicken and it was excellent. My wife had the Pad See Eu with beef and it was simply delicious. They have a great wine selection as well and have some great cocktails on the menu. We can't wait to go back!

Yelp
I remember when the place was delicious. I ordered lunch pad Thai (still cost over $20). And the noodles were stuck together, no sauce - chicken was dry...I asked for extra pad Thai sauce on the side - but I was told they don't "do that" - I tried to add soy sauce but it didn't help. Definitely won't be back.

Yelp
Great food! Excellent service! Very attentive staff! The egg rolls were yummy!! Would definitely recommend!!

Yelp
We read all the reviews before eating here. We had an amazing meal. My companion is a chef from Bangkok, and he liked all the dishes. The service was very attentive, and everything went well. My only comment would be about how inaccurate some of the Yelp reviews are. Again, for us, this was a wonderful dinner.

Yelp
if you like getting yelled at by the drunk owner for sending your food back because there's hair in it then this is the restaurant for you. ZERO STARS

Yelp
Came to Basil Thai for a work dinner. Sad to find out their Pad Thai is NOT veggie friendly as their sauce is premade & contains fish sauce. Boo on that since that's my usual go to Thai dish But forced me to explore........opted for the Prak King Peppers w/ tofu. Huge hunks of tofu cooked in this flavorful peppery sauce with still crunchy (in a good way) green peppers. Colleague chose the veggie fried rice & this was likewise flavorful w/ lots of peas, green beans, carrots & broccoli Staff was super nice & extremely patient with all my veggie-related questions. Thank you for helping to find my perfect match

Yelp
Excellent - first off they are fast, secondly the drinks are nice sized and finally the food is fantastic. I had the seafood vegetables and it was fresh seafood and amazing taste.

Yelp
My husband was craving rice and Asian food after a week of southern food and seafood. We're Asian so definitely get cravings for rice and since this restaurant was close to our hotel he decided on Thai. We usually have Thai at least once a week when we're at home (California) but figured since we're in a city with a different population I didn't expect it to be the same as home. We kept it simple Thai wings, (grilled steak) beef salad, hot and sour shrimp soup (tom yum) and steamed rice. The problem started with the ordering. We were in the bar area and our server must have been having a bad day because when I was telling her our order she just couldn't get it straight. She seemed flustered and didn't put it in her little machine right and had to keep asking to repeat the order. When I order I'm pretty concise and I told her if we could have the food brought out together we didn't want the wings as an appetizer just family style with the whole meal. I noticed there was no option for steamed rice on the menu ( what Thai restaurant doesn't offer simple steamed rice ?). We usually order fried rice but I noticed it had all these extra veggies that typically we don't have in Thai fried rice ( simple egg, onion, scallion and sometimes tomato but no peas and carrots) and I didn't want to have to ask to exclude it. Our waitress had a hard time finding steamed rice. The menu already stated that some of the things we ordered would come spicy and since our waitress didn't ask for spice level we just assumed that it would be mild spice. Both me and my husband typically eat Thai food, "Thai spicy" and should have mentioned it to the waitress but as I said she was already looking flustered and so I thought better of it. I also ordered a lychee martini... which I had to remind our waitress halfway through the meal. When the food came, wings came out first and she wondered why we weren't eating it after a while and she came over to ask how it was and noticed that. Then I just mentioned we were just going to eat it with the other dishes. Which she then remembered. Wings were decent, fish sauce was sweet and not spicy at all and I added a ton of the sambal oelek that was provided on the table and still not really hot. Rice came out next and then the Tom yum. Salad came out last. The Tom Yum was for all intents and purposes good for where we were. It was broth mushrooms and shrimp. I'm use to having cilantro or coriander in it even some tomato, bits of lemon grass but no and it definitely wasn't spicy. So added the pickled peppers to at least have a little kick. Then the salad came out and there I was a little disappointed. Yum neua should at least have the beef in strips or bigger pieces than what was provided. The beef was chopped up into small cubes so couldn't really get a good flavor and the salad seemed to lack the sauciness that Thai beef salad should have and once again no spice so this time I added the chili powder. I looked on the website and saw they described it as authentic Thai flavors. I had overheard the waitress taking the order of another couple at the bar and heard her ask them what spice level they would like their food. (Totally shocked at that point) and when we got our bill I noticed that she put no spice for our order which completely made me laugh. I had felt bad that she seemed to be having a bad day so we still tipped her decently but when I left the restaurant I felt honestly discriminated against. We were the only Asian couple in there at the time but did notice that they catered more to the rest of the patrons there.

Yelp
We arrived at 5 for our reservation and there were no other people there since they open at 5. It took over an hour to receive our food. The dishes we ordered with veggies were cold and not eatable. The pad Thai was very strange tasting. The apps we ordered never arrived after being told by our server numerous times that he was double checking on them. Our server finally told us at the hour and half mark that he would comp the apps. You can't comp something we never received. We noticed several people get up and leave when their food never arrived. The manager should've closed the place when you're 2 hours behind on food coming out of the kitchen. Our server never apologized nor did a manager for the unsatisfactory food and service. It was our first and last visit. Very disappointing!

Yelp
The Basil website says open at 3pm. We placed the online order $169.30 including the Tip. We were emailed ready at 4:28pm pick-up. We walked to Basil from our hotel-residence. A staff member stated Basil does not open until 5pm come back after 5pm. No one called us to inform of the error on the site. The employee said he thought he fixed the site. I called via cell at 5:10pm to inquire the status. Again, we were told by a gentleman to come back in another 10 minutes. At no time, did Basil offer us a cookie or teabag. We walked back to Basil. At 5:39 we could not open the door. I called Basil..advised that the door was not locked, just stuck. Additionally, part of the order was not available. The manager said he called me twice to inform us the shrimp rolls were not available. At this time, we canceled the order, requested a credit and walked back to our hote-residence.

Yelp
I work in uptown, and eat lunch regularly. i tried basil thai and ate lunch in the restaurant fews times and i liked it. I tried take out few times and not sure why take out tastes bad. Once the food was salty, less quantity etc. Other time the food was bland and looked like the chef missed to add sauce , it was dry and sticky. Not sure cooks are not consistent in taste or quantity.

Yelp
I have walked past this place many times while strolling through Uptown on my lunch break. I have always been intrigued, but typically when I eat Thai food I get some casual take out instead of a sit down restaurant so for that reason I've always passed on the opportunity. That was a mistake on my part because after finally coming in for a dinner date I can see why Basil has been around for as long as it has! I came in on a Tuesday and the place had a solid crowd. The decor was a mixture of Asian decor along with a lounge aesthetic which made for a cool and unique vibe. I was early for my reservation so I grabbed a seat at the bar and ordered a beer while I waited. They have a lot of imported beer as well as a few mainstream domestics and some local crafts as well. The bartender was very professionally dressed and knowledgeable. The service overall was great. For starters we went with an order of egg roles which came with a tasty sweet and sour sauce. They were delicious we scarfed them down very quickly. Usually I enjoy a lot of spice but my stomach had been bothering me recently so I chickened out and avoided a spicy entree. I got the garlic chicken which is smothered in a black pepper garlic sauce. It was delectable but I found myself wishing I had gone with some more spice. Luckily they keep some spices at the table in case you feel the need to add some heat and I was able to spice up my meal! Overall I found the food to be delicious and the dining experience enjoyable. I would absolutely recommend even to someone who isn't sure about Thai food as I think they have some items that can serve to introduce you to the cuisine without being overwhelming.

Yelp
Service was the worse I have ever experienced in Charlotte. Drinks literally took 30 minutes to reach the table, food was ok but seafood dish was terrible. Would not recommend as we won't be going back.

Yelp
Sigh. It makes me so sad to write this review because for YEARS, this was my favorite restaurant in Charlotte. I'm not quite sure what has happened over the last few years but there has been a drastic drop in quality and in the experience. Half the time the restaurant is empty. Portions seem to have gotten slightly smaller. Prices have risen. They tried a texting discount program and then discontinued it without telling anyone who was enrolled, so I was among those who placed an order at the discounted price only to be told when I arrived to pick up they they'd ended the program and "have been trying ti get the company to stop sending the texts." Twice I've picked up an order only for it to be incorrect - once I realized before getting out and waited while they remade it and the second time I was home before realizing. I called and called and called and no answer. Finally had to go through the takeout vendor for a refund. The last time I got the basil rolls - which had long been my favorite thing I'd ever gotten from any Thai restaurant ever - the quality was terrible. I once overheard the owner saying how he'd come back to "get things on track." I'm not sure how that is going, and I hope he is successful, but I won't know. Sadly, I simply can't recommend Basil any longer and have to find another favorite Thai spot.

Yelp
I was a little concerned after reading reviews of this restaurant, but we had been here years before. Kyle arrived to our table almost immediately and filled us in on drink and food specials. Our orders were taken in a timely manner , food arrived at a normal pace and service was stellar. We were checked on frequently by the staff. The food contrary to other reviews was very good and nominally priced. All four of us enjoyed pad Thai, a basil dish with pork and one with chicken. Plenty of sauce provided also, so I didn't agree with poster who claimed food was 'dry'. We were here last before covid with out of town family and came back again with them. No disappointment. Hopefully we'll be back sooner . This was the restaurant on 5th in Charlotte

Yelp
When Chia Eang decided to open Basil Thai Cuisine in 2009, along with his brother Henry, they took all the best from their Charleston restaurant and transported it to Uptown. In a tumultuous time when Charlotte's banks had nearly cancelled every executives expense account, Basil planted their flag at N Church and 5th located in the corner of the Avenue condominium. I know. I was there. Chia threw a huge soft opening for the residents at the Avenue--all 386 units! Wow, what a night. It eventually carried over next door to then Lattore's night club and we danced the night away like kids at a high school hop. Chia picked up tab. That rare combination of passion and assiduousness coupled with generosity are qualities few entrepreneurs seem to possess--the Eang's have it in spades. That's why, it was a no-brainer to invite friends to dinner recently who were visiting from Toronto (which has a vast culture of Asian-inspired cuisine). Our waiter Alex was top-notch and on his game. Instructive, insightful, and just distant enough to make for a pleasant evening. We ordered appetizers (get the stuffed shrimp) and entrees such as, Pad Thai (of course), Red Curry Duck, Mixed Seafood, and Volcano Shrimp. Everyone had a favorite as we passed them all around. Delicious, full of Asian flavors without burning up your taste buds (although I prefer more heat, as some have mentioned). We all left fat and happy. Since 2009 Basil continues to offer a quality presentation of authentic Thai cuisine. The location is ideally located and the décor urban chic. Pro tip: this is not a place with big entrees done dirt cheap like you find on the edge of town. Looking to have an intimate evening with a taste of Thai cuisine? Go to Basil. Uptown. Way up on my "give 'em a whirl meter."

Yelp
What really struck me about Basil is the service. We were seated in the bar area and the servers were both so attentive and helpful. Food was also delivered to our table promptly, and piping hot. Traditional Thai dishes. I went with the Pad Kee Mow, my friend got the Pad Thai. Both were delicious and authentic! I agree with other Yelpers that it's a bit on the pricey side, but I stand strong with my 5 stars due to the ambiance and service. So plan to dine-in and not take-out, and you'll get your money's worth!

Yelp
Nice little restaurant if you are looking for Thai in uptown. Nice drink menu and food was fine. Order medium spicy with a side of chili with fish sauce.

Yelp
Service = 0 Food = 1 Atmosphere = 2 Bartender = Ridiculously bad Manager = Joke We used to love this place. Not sure if new owners or managers but it is just horrible now. Word is spreading....

Yelp
Trash food from a trash restaurant with trash customer service. I see why they have a lower rating. Whoever the manager is is the rudest and least helpful individual I've encountered in the service industry. Ordered food for delivery...after an hour of no show, called the restaurant to get an update or info on how I could contact the delivery service. That is when I was unfortunate enough to encounter such an angry human being telling me he'd done his part and has no way of contacting the delivery people and didn't bother to offer any other assistance. After he hung up on me while claiming to go get the delivery service number , I had to call back to even get the number...forget the food, the sour taste of terrible customer service was it for me.

Yelp
I've been dining in Basil in the past the experience was good and I remembered I was barely able to finish my pad Thai cause it was a lot in the place. But this time I was very upset about there portion of the Thai spicy pad see-eu takeout i ordered. It was an almost 20 bucks meal (with shrimp) and the whole thing was filled in this tiny little paper box. I finished the whole thing later without feeling filled up at all. Thai spicy is my go to - from this place it's really not that spicy. Just normal. Honestly the food tasted great. Only wish there were more, for the price I paid. I guess next time if I come to this place I should still do sit down. Don't think I would do another takeout from here.
