Santa Maria della Salute is truly one of the must see landmarks in Venice. The interior feels very spacious and peaceful, and the architecture is elegant and impressive, with its beautiful octagonal design and magnificent dome. Located at the entrance of the Grand Canal, it offers a stunning view both from outside and inside. We were also lucky to come across a small recital during our visit, which made the experience even more special. A wonderful place that perfectly reflects the spirit of Venice.

I visited many churches and museums during my trip—even the Vatican Museums—and I can say with absolute certainty that this is the only place that truly felt peaceful and holy. Maybe it’s because it attracts fewer tourists, or maybe it’s because the people who come here actually arrive with hope. Santa Maria della Salute is a healer saint, and you can feel that energy the moment you step inside. If you have someone who needs healing, this is the place to come and lay your faith within these walls.

One of the most beautiful churches in Venice, built in the 17th century as a votive offering after the great plague. Its appearance is impressive even from afar, the large white dome, the richly decorated facade with sculptures, and the recognizable Baroque architecture that stands proudly at the entrance to the Grand Canal. The experience in person is even more breathtaking. Climbing the wide steps, you immediately feel a calm and peaceful atmosphere. The church is monumental, yet gentle in its light, especially in the evening when the sky turns gold. Inside, everything becomes quiet, serene, and it feels as if time slows down for a moment. For anyone who loves history, art, or simply wants to feel the true spirit of Venice, this place is a must-see. Santa Maria della Salute is a blend of story, soul, and beauty, one of those sights that stay with you long after you leave.

A stunning basilica with elegant architecture and a peaceful atmosphere. Beautiful both inside and out, offering great views of the Grand Canal. A must-visit landmark that reflects Venice’s spiritual and artistic heritage.

Basilica Santa Maria della Salute is an extraordinary place to visit in Venice. Beyond preserving magnificent works by the great Titian, the basilica itself is one of the most breathtaking structures ever created by human hands. Its grand dome, elegant proportions, and dramatic position at the entrance of the Grand Canal make it truly unforgettable. For the best experience, take a vaporetto from Accademia toward San Marco — the approach offers a unique and stunning view of the basilica from the water, one of the most beautiful sights in Venice.

A magnificent basilica with the highlight being the giant cross mat at the center of the basilica and an amazing alter decorated with various types of statues. What is interesting is the lack of any opulence in terms of gold but a focus on the simplicity of an all white aesthetic.

Google
beautiful place!!! highly suggest to get up and arrive early, way before its opening at 7am. we arrived at 630am and had no queue wait (other than waiting for them to open the entrances). the dome ticketing opens at 730am, and we were the second in queue. we got the ticket with the elevator. highly recommended experience if you’re visiting Rome! just need you to be up early. do note that Wednesdays will be extremely packed so avoid coming on Wednesdays if you’re just a visiting tourist.

Google
A rather impressive sight from the outside (immersive and very detail, white marble with plenty of details carved), very nicely located for "viewing" all the way from St. Marco. Amazing sight indeed. Rather simplistic in the inside but still a marvel of architecture!

Yelp
We walked to this Basilica one morning before lunch... it's a beautiful basilica on the point of the Grand Canal and worth the visit. They're doing some renovation inside currently, but it's still beautiful. It's amazing to see the sheer size and beauty, especially when inside of the construction!

Yelp
Beautiful! A incredible walk along the way. Just cross the bridge. Maybe 20 minutes away if your walking from st marks.

Yelp
After St. Mark's Basilica, it is possibly the second most renowned church in Venice. This church sits on the opposite side of the grand canal to St. if you see pictures of Grand Canal on the internet, most probably you are seeing this church in the background. Well, there is interesting fact why it was built - The basilica was built to commemorate the end of a terrible outbreak of the plague that began in 1630 and killed a large portion of the Veneto population. I felt like it looks grand only when you see if from the Vaporetto. The Basilica's interior is octagonal with small chapels on each side of the building. Although the church's decoration is quite plain, there are several impressive paintings by Titian and Tintoretto. Taking center stage on the Grand Canal, the exterior is decorated with four statues of the apostles and the main dome towers above the skyline. Entry to the church is free, but there is a charge to visit the art-slung sacristy

Yelp
Unfortunately when we came to Basilica di Santa Maria it was closed, which was a bummer because we specifically walked to come and see it. But the building itself is beautiful. It is a worthy photo spot both near and from afar, and that door! I don't know anything about the building's history or the Saint it represents. I am not a religious person and so I don't concern myself with that aspect, I purely enjoy buildings for their architecture. I didn't Venice as fascinating a city as I did others I visited. I find that they don't have as much cultural places for you to enjoy as say Florence or Rome. As weird as that sounds, In Venice is mostly shopping and eating, and so this Basilica it's one of its main cultural attractions worthy of visiting. There is also a public water taxi (can't remember the actual name) right outside, which takes you up and down the grand Canal, which I am sure stops at Piazza at San Marco where Palazzo Ducale is. I would have loved to have seen this Basilica directly from the other side of the grand canal, but we did not. It would have made for amazing pictures of the whole building.

Yelp
Basilica of Saint Mary of Health is one of the nicest buildings in Venice. The marble architecture and dome are beautiful. Small but it has amazing detail. The scenery surrounding the church is just amazing since it is right at the edge of the canal. You get great shots all around. You can also see Il Redentore across the canal. Venice is not big, but Salute is one of the longer walks you will take if you are staying around the main area.

Yelp
This church is always highlighted on any commercial, film, video or postcard about Venice. Really an iconic spot and one of Venice's landmarks. I happened to find myself nearby at the Guggenheim Venice museum, Peggy Guggenheim's pet project and just started wandering around which is the best thing to do in Venice. Within minutes I somehow found myself here and instantly recognized the church. This is one of Venice's 4 Plague Churches. Venice was particularly hit hard during the Black Death, the Plague and these churches were specifically built for Venetians to pray to save themselves and ask for healing for their loved ones who were affected. The steps are a great place to just hang out and watch life go by, the vaparettos chugging by, the water taxis whizzing by, and just sit down and rest your feet while you take in the sense of history here.

Yelp
San Marco may be Venice's most famous church by name, but this church may be Venice's most famous by image and silhouette! Immortalized by Canaletto's famous Grand Canal drawings and followed by later landscape artists, SM Salute was always the main character in the typical Grand Canal scene thanks to her canalside location and prominent dome. Built as a thanksgiving to the end of a deadly plague, Santa Maria della Salute (St Mary of Health) is a beautiful icon of gratitude, close and afar. Away in the Accademia Bridge, you can see the famous Grand Canal scene topped with the dome of SM Salute. But go closer - in fact, go as close as you can until you can see the expressions of the many statues on her multi-directional facade. Certainly, you can get a long glimpse of this uniquely octagonal church as you cruise by her on the Grand Canal, but once you are on the bank in her shadow, you can truly appreciate the immense details on this wonderful church. Fortunately, the church is free to enter although it's not as impressive as the outside. Nonetheless, I highly recommend stopping at the Accademia Bridge and landing at the Salute vaporetto stop to admire Venice's dedication of her gratitude to a divine deliverance. Besides, it's really hard to ignore this beautiful domed church, right? --- tl;dr version: 1) Venice's most famous church by image and silhouette 2) Admire afar at Accademia Bridge and close on its bank
