Basilica Nuestra Señora De La Altagracia

The church is amazing to the view. There is a lot of sellers around the premises and beggars that might make visitors uncomfortable, because they are persistent and could follow you around if you pay too much after to them. You can get your own candle and say your prayers at a specific place. There was a wedding going on during the mass schedule which alter the agenda for the people that went there for the mass at noon. Lots of stray dogs around too. Big parking, lovely palm gardens. Clean bathrooms and big area for them. Also there is a little store for souvenirs, books, bracelets, charms, etc.

Impressive building but unfortunately the tour we were on didn't give us any time to look around. We just filed past the virgin Mary and left.

It's a lovely place. Although I am not religious, I did enjoy the architecture and serenity of this place.

Such an amazing piece of architecture and religious stature. The sheer size is of amazement. The amount of work to create was such a daunting task. The beauty inside was a marvel. It was definitely a must on my to do list. Upon entering women were provided covers if their knees were exposed. We were lucky to catch the church in between services. The experience is one you need to just have on your own. Pictures don't do justice for the size and beauty of this church.

This is the most beautiful and holy place to visit in the Dominican Republic. It's our Representation of Catholicism and faith for our virgin of Altagracia. She is our patrona.

Ugly from the outside, but absolutely beautiful inside. Worth a visit if you're in higuey!

Such a beautiful and inviting place. This is where I pay my promises and respects to the Virgin Mary. It is a landmark of the Dominican Republic and rooted in our culture and faith.
