Right now the whole interior is under renovation, but visit to the dome on top still possible (500 narrow steps!) and the Treasury exhibition is really worth it! Check out the cafe on the mezzanine too, great ambiance!

A majestic basilica with monumental dome towering over the surrounding flat areas. It can be accessed from several directions, but I prefer the free parking under the Márie Valérie bridge and a short 15 minute walk through the Macskalépcső (Cat's walkway) up the hill. The Basilica grounds offer several smaller parks and various historical monuments, and will give you a beautiful scenic view to the areas around, which will surely be even better during a sunrise or a sunset. The Basilica itself is kept in a good condition and is freely accessible without any additional entry fees and there is really lots to see - beautiful decorated cathedral, the 3rd floor's Panorama Café with breath taking views, Cathedral treasury, Crypt and many more. Absolutely great place to visit if you're driving through and have few hours to spare.

Our family had an amazing day visiting the Esztergom Basilica, the largest basilica in Hungary, just a short trip from Štúrovo. Although we didn’t go inside, the view from the top was absolutely breathtaking. The sight of the green bridge connecting Slovakia and Hungary, along with the peaceful surroundings, made the visit truly special. We took the Vláčik, a charming little tourist bus that looks like a small train, from Štúrovo to the basilica. The ride was a highlight for the kids, and it was a great way to start our adventure. For just 12 Euros for the whole family, it was a fun and affordable way to travel. The journey isn’t long, but it’s definitely enjoyable and offers some beautiful views along the way. If you’re in Štúrovo, this is a must-visit spot, especially with family. Highly recommend it for a relaxing and scenic outing!

The largest basilica in Hungary is quite the site to see. 🚧 the inside is being renovated, so an otherwise glorious view is obstructed 🤮 the second floor holds a collection of jewels and robes, a rather disgusting display of extreme wealth. Is gluttony not a sin? 🔭 you can pay to walk up to the top of the basilica, worth the effort for the vista. Not sure the sight is worth feeding the glutton even more. 🧱 the crypt beneath is surrounded the thickest wall in Hungary, at ~7 meters thick. 2 stars because as disgusting as it was, it was an awesome sight to see and it clearly moved me to emotion.

It's a relatively newly constructed Basilica. Beautiful. The treasury collection is impressive and so is the crypt. There is a ticket to visit the crypt and the treasury. The Basilica is connected by a bus from Esztergom station. You can spend 2-3 hours here.

A nice church that is really big. The Treasury is filled with beautiful relics and robes and the basement is nice and cool. If you go up the stairs you can look over the city. They are currently renovating almost everywhere so there was only one side to take pictures of and things were missing.

Nice and important church, but more beautiful inside than out. Under major construction in 2024 when we visited, so limited access and glamour.

Located an hour away from Budapest (by train), this picturesque location has views of the Danube river, Maria Valeria bridge, and neighboring Štúrovo (the southernmost town of Slovakia).
