⛪ Basilique Saint-Michel Archange, Menton – A place that takes your breath away This basilica is absolutely stunning — the kind of place that makes you stop and simply breathe in silence. The moment you arrive, the view alone takes your breath away. From the top, you can see a beautiful panoramic view of Menton and the sea, glowing under the Mediterranean light. Inside, the feeling is completely different — peaceful, spiritual, and deeply moving. The music, the light, the scent of old stone and candles — everything creates a sense of calm and presence. It’s a place where your soul rests, not just your body. After your visit, take a walk down the charming narrow streets leading toward the seaside — they’re full of life and character. Along the way, you’ll discover small cafés, hidden corners, and quiet spots where you can enjoy a coffee or ice cream while watching the waves. One practical note: on Sundays, the basilica closes around 2:00 PM, so it’s better to visit on Saturday if you want to explore without hurry. Occasionally, you may also be lucky to hear the organ playing — it’s an unforgettable experience that fills the entire space with timeless beauty. A must-see for anyone visiting Menton — not just for believers, but for everyone who seeks peace, history, and beauty. 🌿✨

A beautiful and historic Baroque basilica in the middle of Old Town. The climb up was short, but there were a decent amount of stairs. It is well worth the trek, as the small square in front of the church has stunning views of the Mediterranean and the surrounding landscape. The interior is highly detailed and ornate. The building appears to have limited hours. When I visited, it was only open Monday - Saturday from 15:00 to 17:00 (3pm - 5pm). If you want to go inside, be sure to check the hours beforehand. Be sure to also check out Escaliers, which is the scenic zigzag stairwell connecting the basilica to the main street below. I feel this church is a perfect touch on a visit to lovely sun-kissed Menton!

‏Very beautiful spot located in the heart of Menton after 2 minute walk from the beach. ‏Old Town Menton is a must see...Streets whose brightly coloured yellow and orange walls protected you from the blistering sun. A magnificent view of the bay in its entirety and the village cascading down the hillside. Moreover, The people of Menton were super friendly appreciating those that appreciated their hard work in making thus a fabulous tourist spot. ‏I highly recommend visiting the Basilique Saint-Michel Archange when in Menton. Whether you're drawn by history, architecture, or spirituality, it offers a unique and enriching experience. It is a proud symbol of Menton’s cultural heritage and one of the most beautiful churches I’ve seen in the south of France.

This place is majestic and equally charming! I was not able to get inside but the church is beautiful from the outside. Menton France is worth it!

Climbing up, around and past the walls and towers of the town and its multicoloured buildings you ware always drwan to the dramatic theatre of this Eglise, its large place and its beautiful setting, hit by the sun and shadow, making each vista a filmic moment

A Basilica located on a hill overlooking the coastline. Unfortunately it was closed when visited, however the walk up and down from the church was worth it.

Definitely an extraordinary experience into the holly french-style historical places of this town. Huge golden crown hanging over the alter is different, and places of worship differs some from the Italian icons across the border. Remembrances of historic wars, strides and efforts on the sea are displayed. The climb up here is definitely and effort, but the views reward you from the little square, once you are there. NB: Did you know that 007 drove down these stairs in one of his films?

The Basilique Saint-Michel Archange (1639) stands above the pastel-painted buildings, yachts, and shimmering sea of Menton, France. Famous artists such as Cocteau, Picasso, Monet, Duffy, and Flaubert have painted here. The Rampe Saint-Michel is a zigzag stairway leading to the basilica.
