Basketball City

This league def has the worst refs, played here 1 season last year, walked out the gym with a lot of scratch on my both arms, even found bruises on my body the next day, but the refs didn't call anything, they just want the game to be ended soon, you think this is bad enough? no it even got worse in the playoff game, I was driving to the rim, my face got hit by an elbow and another dude pulled my arm and dragged me to the ground, I got a bleeding nose, TWO REFS, BOTH OF THEM DID NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT TO BLOW THE WHISTLE, AND YES I GOT AN INJURIED ARM AFTER THAT PLAY

Visit was for work but the place was very spacious… i would like to experience the event one of these days

Parking was terrible, but location is pretty nice and I enjoyed the kids playing basketball.

Basketball City is a huge event venue along the east river in Manhattan. On December 8, 2018 Pandora Music service hosted their annual Holiday Celebration with Post Malone, SZA and Cheat Codes among them.

Unfair Treatment at the Gym There seems to be a blatant inconsistency in how policies are enforced, particularly when it comes to checking IDs at the entrance. From what I’ve observed, dark-skinned individuals are often allowed entry without issue, but Spanish and Asian members are held to a different standard. Every time my family or others from similar backgrounds visit, staff insist on checking our IDs, even when we’re familiar faces. Meanwhile, I’ve watched other families, equally unfamiliar to staff but who share the same complexion as the team, walk right in without question. This creates the perception that the gym is selectively enforcing its policies based on ethnicity, which is both unprofessional and discriminatory. Management must do better. Proper training is critical to ensure all staff follow the same procedures for everyone, regardless of race or background. A gym should be a welcoming and inclusive space, and no one should feel singled out or treated unfairly. It’s 2025—equality and respect shouldn’t be optional. Until the leadership addresses this issue and enforces its rules consistently across the board, it’s hard to recommend this facility. Management owes its members an immediate explanation and change in practice.

It was a nice facility very limited parking. Stressful finding parking in the neighborhood area

P.S. For the upper management, I've seen one or two of the young assistant coaches yelling at some kids. Parents are paying for their kids to be taught, not yelled at. I can only imagine as a child, if you are new to the sport, how discouraging that can be. I'm not saying to coddle them but it's the coaches job to teach. Stress patience to the staff teaching the younger kids.

Came here for a private event over the Memorial Day weekend and its been good. The vast amount of activities that you can do here is unlimited (to an extent haha). Restrooms are cleaned (which is a great sign), restocked throughout the day. The prices at the snack bar and food stand is so reasonable compared to the prices in another state (cough cough NYC). There is an arcade, a rock climbing wall (priced separately). Basketball, volleyball, the gym.. you guessed it. There is a hotel connected to venue for players as well! C:

Been here for events (Casio, ESPN Super Bowl Party) and played ball here too. Great facility kept in excellent shape. Staff is accommodating and professional. The event space is huge and versatile. Can host concerts and sit down dinner events. Not many spaces in the city that can pull off a big (not massive) events and Basketball City does it well.

Nice and new facility. I only come here to watch the boyfriend play, so I'm not sure if you can come and just play, but it's pretty nice and still super clean.

Was here for the NACIVTs (9 man Volleyball). Great facility. With the number of people we had, the cleaning staff did a fantastic job keeping the place clean, especially in the washrooms. Thanks for hosting nearly 1500 of us.

If you know someone who plays here often and has for a while, it may be worth entering a league with that person. If you don't, be prepared for the refs and the guys working the scorers table during games to know everyone on the teams you're playing against and call the games in their favor. Not to mention the fact that there are 10 games going on at the same time so it's hard to even hear the refs blow a whistle. New teams aren't welcome at this place, it's a small fortune to join a league, and the facility is on the east river far away from everything. Ive played in significantly better basketball leagues in NYC

I've come here for really huge, fun events such as the Bike Expo and Craft Beer Festival. The only downside was that it was FREEZING due to the aftermath of Sandy, but I'm sure that'll be fixed soon. The bathrooms are really clean which is a major plus! The only con is that it's quite a walk from the subway station, and difficult to catch a cab in this area.

I worked here for an event for some MAJOR folks. Just to give you an idea of what kind of folks I'm talking about, the kind that can probably buy your soul. Yeah those folks... Okay maybe not BUY your soul but they sure have a lot of moola. lol Better? The space was rented out for an auction that night and damn this place is huge. Seriously, at one point I kind of forgot where things were and had to ask someone who was working that particular area for help that night. Yikes! The hoops can be lifted/retracted and in some cases taken off the hinges completely? I did not know that as there were only a few that still hung above us. The rest must have been taken off to make the space even more presentable. It was a stunning space at night and I am sure it would have been EVEN STUNNINGLY so in the daylight IF you find a bunch of guys sweating playing basketball. Albeit, not my type of coffee. Had I known about this place in my earlier days of playing bball (think a shorter more athletic version of Kyle Korver) I would have really LOVED this place. Ahhh to reminisce.

For big events this is a great spot. It is new facilities and loved the big space and how it can how multiple purposes. What I did not like was how nasty the bathrooms were when I was there. I was there at the Craft Beer Festival and on some of the doors (which were white) it looked like they used brown water to wipe the white doors down. It looked really bad. If it had appeared more clean to me I would have been a bigger fan. I know that Sandy is part of the effort and time that needs to be put in to clean it, but the bathrooms I were in were on the 2. floor, so they should have been clean. Like the conversion of this area to something new and more modern. It is a bit out of the way but if the event is interesting enough I would come again and hopefully next time the bathrooms will be cleaner.

Nice environment. Lots of basketball courts. I practice there with my team often and we really enjoy it. You can turn on the score board for scrimmages or you can plan games there. If you want to buy snacks - DO NOT DO IT THERE the snacks are ridiculously expensive. That is NOT an overreaction. Overall this is a great place! Fun fact: BeautyCon 2016 was held here.

I enrolled my son at the camp this week so he could learn the skills and techniques of basketball. First impression, the facility is fantastic but it ends there. The coaches are nice in front of the parents and then rude to the kids when they are out of sight. Discipline is fine but when they humiliate children in front of everyone and do not give encouragement that is not acceptable . Every child should learn to accept criticisms if given properly but not the case at Basketball City. Today, Cliff, the main coach , told a child to put his/her hand down when the guest speaker was seeking few kids to shoot the basketball. He told the child to put his/her hand down because you are not a good shooter. This coming from assistant coach of the KNICKS ( not sure if he is still). All the other children laughed at this poor child. I was told that all of the coaches are former or current professional/college players. They should remember these children are interested in honing their skills in basketball and not there to learn how to demoralize others. I guess some of these "coaches"" do this so they can feel important and superior since they were not when it counted. Although my son is somewhat thick skin, I will NEVER enroll him again. i highly suggest parents to think twice before they enroll, especially if your child is sensitive and needs encouragement . If your child has Dave as a coach beware !

Great place to play basketball. Around 8 full courts. Prices are a little expensive and it is difficult to get to.

Not the best environment for kids to go to. Coaches are way too harsh and yell way too much.

Basketball city camp is a very good camp for kids to learn the game and also enjoy playing the game. Every week there are new NBA players that come to the camp and speaks and workout with the kids. I highly recommend basketball city camp. My son has been going to the camp for the last 3 years.

I have been her for two events so far. Heineken Viewing Party and just yesterday the Electrolytenment event. Its a great big space and there is an outside area which gives you a beautiful view of the city. Especially at night. And of course plenty of photos ladies. lol

Attended Choice Eats here. Good venue for it.

My 9 yo daughter did the basketball camp. She came home one day and told me one of the coaches threw a ball at her because she wasn't running fast enough. Hit her right in the back. She said the same coach made fun of the way some kids ran and kept calling one little boy "midget man" I don't think we will be going back

This is the worst place to place a child for basketball camp. The coaches are rude and demoralize the kids. I was so mad that my son was yelled at by coach Tracy. He made it a mission to let my son know that his team lost the game because of him. He kept yelling we are losing because of you!!! WHAT A GREAT WAY TO TEACH AND ENCOURAGE A CHILD TO PLAY BASKETBALL AND ALL THIS ON THE SECOND DAY OF CAMP!!! I reported this abuse and it seemed to fall on deaf ears. I reported it to the youth coordinator Shaggy and I wrote an E-mail to the President of basketball city with no response...what a shame. My son cried all the way home and refused to go back to the camp. I also know parents that took there kids out of the camp after the first day because they were terrified of getting yelled at and ridiculed in fornt of everyone. The coaches are nice in front of the parents but behind the scenes BEWARE!!!

wow what a space, basketball heaven where was this place 30 years ago, great events space also partys etc, the view is priceless, only knock is the subway is a little far but well worth it. fantastic palce to play , party or host your next event. give it a 10 .
