Basse Provence Country House (Franschhoek, South Africa) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"With rolling vineyards, quaint country villas, and a local population that’s descended from the French Huguenots that settled here in the seventeenth century, Franschhoek is, in short, South Africa for Francophiles. The prosperous wine region may be just a short drive from Cape Town, but it feels stuck in a gentler past of manor houses and four-course dinners served atop antique china. It’s no surprise, then, that area accommodations like the Basse Provence Country House are more classic than chic (then again, the hotel boasts a roster of famous guests that includes both the Earl of Wessex and Jude Law, so maybe classic is chic). Bunches of wildflowers and a warm lighting scheme add a down-to-earth appeal that suits the rural setting. Contemporary amenities that serve the entire cottage include a state-of-the-art stereo system, a full-sized kitchen with heated tile floors, a conservatory and lounge, a private pebble-lined swimming pool and jacuzzi facing out to the vineyards, and a stainless steel barbecue accompanied by an outdoor dining area. Each individual room also offers internet access, satellite television, and a DVD player." - Tablet Hotels

We had such an enjoyable honeymoon stay at Basse Provence in September! The property is so quaint and charming, surrounded by absolutely stunning scenery. We were warmly greeted with a welcome glass of wine, which was such a lovely way to start our stay. We also loved that two wine tastings at Rickety Bridge were included—it was such a fun perk and a great way to experience the local wines. The guest house had just been recently revamped, and it looked so beautiful. Our room (the Manor 1 Luxury Double) was spacious and comfortable, and the staff were all incredibly kind and welcoming. Breakfast each morning was delicious, though service was a bit on the slower side—but the food definitely made up for it! The only downside for us was the noise level in our room. Because of the thatched roof, there wasn’t much insulation, so we could hear everything from birds and dogs in the valley to nearby cars. It wasn’t a dealbreaker, but something to keep in mind if you’re a light sleeper—we’d definitely stay again, just in a different room next time. We arrived a little early for check-in and had to wait, which was perfectly fine since we enjoyed our wine tasting in the meantime, though it would have been nice to have a golf cart option to escort guests to the tasting room. We didn’t get to use the pool since it was too cold during our visit, but it looked lovely. Overall, Basse Provence is a beautiful property in a fantastic location—just a short Uber ride to the center of town. It’s the perfect peaceful spot for a wine country getaway, and we’d absolutely consider staying here again!

We had the most amazing stay at basse Provence. From the extremely professional and calm welcome to the check out, everything was wonderful. The rooms were lovely and clean and the staff was very helpful and kind. The whole area was well maintained and safe to walk around. The breakfast was also very good, but à la card, so bring some time. All in all this was one of our best stays in South Africa, thanks to all the team.

Stayed here for 4 nights in a loft room. Tanya was very helpful in answering lots of questions before we arrived. Room was spacious and very comfortable with plenty of standard amenities. Staff were excellent, always on the go, either cleaning or serving. Breakfast was freshly made and very good quality, they were able to provide platters from Rickety Bridge to eat on by the pool along with a bottle of wine. Great place to explore Franschhoek and the surrounding areas from. Highly recommend Magnus tours and transfers for impeccable service.

Absolutely charming little B&B on the property of a beautiful winery! Lovely room with beautiful touches. Breakfast was delicious and plenty of food. We also enjoyed the swimming pool on a hot day. We received a complimentary wine tasting at Rickety Bridge, the winery adjoining the property, which was fantastic (would also recommend the winery)! Staff and management were extremely professional. Overall a really lovely property with tons of character at a reasonable price. Would absolutely highly recommend!!

7 of us stayed 2 nights here to help celebrate our sons 30th birthday. The rooms were very comfortable and spacious. The breakfasts could feed a small army and was delicious. The hotel was very clean andan ideal base for us to go on the Wine Tram. The staff were very attentive and helpful. The free wine tasting at Rickety Bridge topped the break for us.

Beautiful venue, great, huge rooms and really friendly staff. Food at the restaurant very good too and a great location to start a wine tour (the wine made on the estate is delicious as well). We came for a wedding and had the best time - an amazing setting!
