Intimate escapes: French boutique hotels away from the city - SilverKris

"Located just outside a hilltop Provençal village nicknamed the 'village in the sky,' this woodland hotel and spa provides glorious views from its 23 cosy rooms and an on-site Orangeraie restaurant. The surrounding holm oak and myrtle forests support seasonal truffle hunts, while nearby outdoor highlights include hikes in the Gorges du Verdon and local winery tours; the Côte d’Azur is about a 90-minute drive. Practical note: the property can be slow to respond, so booking via an operator is often recommended." - SilverKris

Just love this hotel! Our third visit. this time we stayed for four days. Strongly recommend the rooms with a view from the balcony. The views are outstanding. Large comfortable bed in a nicely decorated room. As the property is older unfortunately the shower is over the bath but that’s the only slight minus. |Ate here every evening, menu changed daily and it was superb every time. Can’t fault this place, plus it’s situated in a lovely area of France and is reasonably priced for what you get.

I stayed at Bastide de Tourtour in late May for two nights. The hotel is situated in an elevated position with spectacular views over the surrounding countryside, with nice grounds and terraced areas and it is just a short walk from the centre of the pretty village. The Bastide is a nice building and the west facing entrance elevation is particularly attractive. The staff are professional, efficient and friendly. My room was quite small, but I was aware of that when I booked, but for this solo road trip, I was happy with that. I only ate dinner at the hotel restaurant on one evening and the menu is limited with I think, two courses to choose from. I would describe the restaurant food as kitchen cooking rather than restaurant or gastronomic cuisine. However, when travelling, I am personally happy of some plain cooking on some evenings as I do not wish to eat gastronomic every day and prefer to alternate when I am away. There is the option of several alternative places to eat within the village. Breakfast is excellent, along with attentive staff. Taking a relaxed early breakfast under the canopy on the terrace was a real treat and a memorable part of my stay at this nice friendly hotel.

Our stay at this beautiful chateau was truly unforgettable. The hotel is located in a peaceful spot with breathtaking views, surrounded by spacious gardens and a forest, creating a perfect atmosphere for relaxation. We enjoyed the swimming pool, minigolf, and a wonderful SPA. We really appreciated the complimentary charging for our electric car, which is a great bonus these days. Our room was spacious with a stunning view of Provence. The staff were incredibly helpful and pleasant throughout our stay. The only slight blemish was dinner: the steak wasn't perfectly prepared, and unfortunately, we weren't the only ones who had to send it back. Despite this minor hiccup, we were extremely satisfied and can highly recommend this amazing hotel!

We booked a Superior Room for a four-night stay. We knew that the room (Room 25) did not have a balcony or a view but we told that it had a private terrace/garden. ||What we were not told is that this room is essentially an annexe to the main hotel which is configured specifically for disabled guests. It cannot be accessed from the hotel at all, only by walking around to the rear of the hotel down a steeply sloping drive adjacent to a car parking area.||The room is located next to the hotel laundry so staff were often to be seen (and heard) pushing large trolleys of laundry past the terrace.||The room area consists of a very large bedroom with a sitting room and a huge bathroom. Unfortunately the decor and furnishings are very spartan to say the least - more befitting a dentist's waiting room than a "Superior" room at a Luxury Hotel and Spa.||The three chairs in the sitting room are very upright and not comfortable.||There was just a single small chest of drawers - in the sitting room! - and a cupboard containing a safe and a single shelf - nowhere near enough storage space for a couple staying four nights. There is a wardrobe in the bedroom area but that contains a fridge - if you turn on the fridge then your clothes get very hot very quickly!||The air conditioning unit did not work and as the apprtment is on the ground floor it was impossible to leave any windows open as there are none - just full-length glazed French Windows. The temperature was in the high 30s centrigrade which made the appartment very uncomfortable - especially as we had to close the curtains at night to give us some privacy from people walking past.||The bathroom, although huge, is very badly laid out. The double sink is very low - for wheelchair users - which is not ideal for two non-disabled people of nearly 6ft. There was just a single small towel rail and one shelf under a mirror on a side wall - far from ideal.||The reception staff were not very helpful, telling us the hotel was fully booked so we could take it or leave it - which is precisely what we did. Having driven 1,000km to get there we left after just two nights.||The restaurant was very pleasant and the restaurant staff were charming.||If you go there avoid Room 25.

Fabulous stay at a most beautiful Hotel the location is just stunning. The reception staff so welcoming - the room overlooking the pool — the view is absolutely unreal. The facilities spa and pool area were first class.

Having stayed and eaten at the Bastide several times over the last 40 years, we were extremely disappointed this time. The room prices are very high for the size of the “standard room “ which was so small that we could barely walk around the bed. The food at the restaurant was mediocre, rack of lamb overcooked after being told it would be cooked “rosé”, and only two main courses to choose from! No morte “carte”, only a very limited menu. The cheese plate was ridiculously small with 3 old pieces of cheeses, not even a local one. Breakfast was good and plentiful though. We shall not return.

Yelp
Really pleased with our one-night stay there in the Prestige room - very beautiful setting & hotel - a typical "bastide provencale" but with modern rooms and facilities. We particularly liked the view, the nice spa and restaurant. Exclusive and pampering feeling. Didn't try the breakfast (went in Tourtour village very close) but the lunch was excellent. Will come back if in the area.

Yelp
Great place all around... Great rooms. Great pool. Great view. Great food. I love the possibility to close off the balcony and sun light from the room with a slider. Read my tip for more details.

Yelp
A beautiful place with gorgeous surroundings and a nice staff. Pool area is great - the gym is not so impressive though - it's very small and there are no floor mats, dumbbells or music. The place would get 4 stars if they had more vegetarian dishes. Staying at the hotel, you don't have much to choose from, if you don't eat meat or fish; only a small salad and a risotto. And the menu is the same for lunch and dinner. The food is great though! And lovely wine. Nice rooms as well
