A well preserved bunglow of Indo-European culture and remnant of Kochi's colonial era. This museum is rich in history and well displayed. The paintings, photographs, rich history displays and preserved materials of the Dutch era are all captivating. The museum ends on the first floor of the bunglow from where the view of fort kochi beach was fantastic. One should not miss the stone crafts in a nearby park. It takes at least 30 minutes to experience it in whole.

This place has an entrance fee of just ₹35 per person, and it's absolutely worth it. Inside, you'll find a well-curated history of Cochin, illustrated with beautiful pictures and artwork. There's a clean washroom available near the exit, and as you leave, you're treated to a stunning view of the backwaters. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Cochin!

Bastion Bungalow is a beautiful slice of history tucked away in the heart of Fort Kochi. The architecture is a stunning blend of European and Kerala styles, with high ceilings, wooden verandahs, and peaceful surroundings. It was originally built in 1667 by the Portuguese and later modified by the Dutch—standing today as a heritage museum that reflects Kochi’s colonial past. The museum inside is small but rich with artifacts, old photographs, and even preserved cannons that offer a glimpse into the city's layered history. I loved the calm vibe of the place, with sculptures and trees enhancing the serene atmosphere. There’s also a small viewpoint from where you can enjoy scenic views of the area. Located near Vasco da Gama Square, it's a quiet yet meaningful stop for anyone exploring Fort Kochi. Perfect for history lovers and photography enthusiasts ! (Visited in August 2025) - N.B. - Bastion Bunglow and Ernakulam District Heritage Museum are the same. Bastion Bunglow, housing Ernakulam District Heritage Museum, is located near Vasco Da Gama Square, Fort Kochi. The name alludes to the fact that the building withstood stormy winds from Arabian Sea, as a Bastion. Originally, the site housed Fort Manuel, one of the earliest Portuguese fortifications in India, which was later seized by the Dutch, before finally falling into British Hands. Now, the quaint building houses the Ernakulam District Heritage Museum, containing few maps, portraits etc. Entry fee is Rs.35 for Indians.

A charming heritage building that reflects the colonial history of Fort Kochi. The architecture is simple yet elegant, and it now serves as an archaeological museum with exhibits on Kerala’s cultural past. A quiet and lesser-crowded spot, perfect for those who enjoy history and heritage walks.
