Bastión Luxury Hotel, a Design Boutique Hotel Cartagena, Colombia

"Located in the heart of Cartagena’s walled city, this modern hotel is a 16th century remodelled building and features a rooftop terrace with a swimming pool and shared lounge. It also boasts an on-site gourmet restaurant, plus free WiFi. The property offers luxury rooms and suites with a contemporary décor that evokes it's colonial past. They feature a flat-screen TV, a large wardrobe and a private bathroom with L’Occitane toiletries. The on-site restaurant is categorized under the kitchen by Rausch program of the well-known Rausch brothers. Other options are available within 500 metres of the property. Santo Toribio church is located next to the hotel, while Rafael Núñez International Airport can be reached in 15 minutes by car." - My Boutique Hotel (en)

Everything about this hotel is superb.|The location in the Historical Centre of the city means that most attractions are a mere stroll away. The rooftop bar and pool are amazing but add to this a panoramic view of the whole city and surroundings makes it very special.|The staff are so friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble for them. Of special note is Jorge at the pool bar, he even teaches a little Spanish while you are there!|The rooms, colonial in style, are all equipped with air conditioning (it gets very warm in the city!) they are spacious and immaculate.|We had breakfast every day we were there and there is a great choice of items. We also had dinner on two evenings which were really good, again a varied menu.|We stayed for four nights in total, prior to a cruise. It was, without a doubt, together with all Cartagena has to offer, the highlight of our vacation.

AMAZING! Stayed here for 2 nights and we were extremely impressed. The level of service was great, from check in to check out. All staff were helpful and caring. Upon check out, Hector was incredible, warm and helpful. We came with kids, the staff brought gift for our 6 and 2 year old and it was so thoughtful, kids were SO happy. The breakfast was good. The pool was wonderful and clean, ample lounge chairs. The location is great. Highly recommend and would definitely stay here again.

Nothing but positives for this small luxury hotel. Located in Old Town Cartagena we could walk everywhere. Breakfasts were included and very interesting. Very Columbia accented. The hotel concierge, Jordan, made two excellent recommendations for dinner. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful when needed. Everything was exceptionally clean. We highly recommend |this wonderful hotel.

I believe I stayed at this hotel during the low season in Cartagena. It was a decent hotel but I think there were couple of failures which prevented my experience from being perfect. They had a lot of good stuff for them but I think most of the details actually made the experience annoying and felt like being nickeled and dimed 1) the bed, pillows etc are extremely comfortable; but the room can not be pitch black because first, there is no way to block the window in the toilet second, the minibar stored in the closet beams its light out. Unforgivable for a hotel at this range 2) every time you leave your room someone enters and tidies it a bit but places room service QR code conveniently on your bed. But they don’t refill the one small bottle of filtered water they provide :) also a tragedy that this bottle is maybe as large as 0.7L 3) they have a good selection, all you can eat buffet for breakfast and an a-la-carte menu 4) the fitness “room” is a joke. The shower in my room was larger than the “fitness” room 5) my average cost was $285/night during the low season; and then while you’re checking out you’re asked ~ $1 per night for insurance (which was also not communicated before) 6) while I was packing for check-out, someone came to my room to check the use of the minibar. Obviously first, this was annoying; secondly, I could have cheated them by getting stuff from their very precious minibar (where probably the most expensive item is one can of Club Columbia 😔)

In essence, we have absolutely nothing to complain about with the hotel (apart from a toilet seat that kept falling down when you least expected it) and the staff were all exceptionally polite and friendly.||Special mention goes to Jorge at the rooftop bar who entertained us and helped us with our basic Spanish that were been learning! He really was excellent and attentive at his job so full marks!||Our breakfast was included and was very good and even sorting me out with my morning cups of tea (which are not always a given in Colombia). I can recommend the avocado & eggs on toast!||Why 4 stars and not 5? Maybe just the price we paid. We’d just have expected a tiny bit for what we’d paid (although have nothing in the area to compare it against). This said, I’d heartily recommend it as we had a great stay there and the location is perfect as it’s relatively quiet but still only a few mins walk from the busier areas. ||Well done to the Bastion hotel!

From the moment we walked through the doors of Bastión Luxury Hotel, we were treated with such warmth and kindness that it felt like coming home. Every single person we encountered from the bellboys, reception, and restaurant staff to room service went above and beyond to make our stay special. What meant the most to me was how much love and care they showed my wife and my son. They weren’t just welcoming us as guests, they made us feel like family. Whether it was a friendly smile, remembering little details, or simply making sure we were always comfortable, their attention and thoughtfulness touched us deeply. Cartagena is beautiful on its own, but the people at Bastión Luxury Hotel are what truly made our trip unforgettable. We left with full hearts, grateful for the memories we made and the kindness we experienced. This is not just a hotel it’s a place where you feel seen, cared for, and truly at home.

The location was great, and very good breakfast, but our room 211 was ugly and neither luxury nor great. It was ordinary with mild smell of sewage. The concierge lady was a little snobby. The wifi would only with 2 devices at a time. We had to disconnect our phones to be able to get wifi on our iPads.
