Absolutely fantastic hostel! I've stayed in so many hostels and this was by far the best one. Check in/out was super easy, everything was clean, but still has a super homey vibe. Great communal areas, the vault especially was super cool! You can see why so many guests decide to stay on as volunteer workers. Will definitely be returning!

This hostel is amazing. I really loved every second I stayed there. The location is amazing and the people are really friendly. They try to create a community between the travellers and it works. I never felt that welcomed and included in a hostel community before. I would definitely recommend this hostel!!!

I really enjoyed my stay here, so much that I stayed here twice on the same trip! The vibe is relaxed and friendly, the staff are all really nice and helpful, and the facilities are great! There's a really lovely kitchen, it would get a little crowded now and then, but lots of room for your food in the fridge or on shelves, and good kitchenware and cutlery available. Free tea and coffee (the hostel provides free oat milk). I was told the laundry service was £6, though I didn't end up needing it during my stay. There are a few repairs being made by the owners over time, but in the meantime they're making sure everything is clean and comfortable. The beds and showers are basic, but totally fine. The bunks could do with curtains to keep out the lights of late arrivals/early risers. A couple of bunks don't have a usb outlet, just wall plugs, and if upgrades are being made, I'd say each bunk having its own light would be useful. I found the ten bed women's room was always friendly, clean and relaxing. It's only five minutes around the corner from the bus station, less from the train. They store luggage for free the day of check in/out and offer free towels. A really nice hostel, with conscientious owners, they make sure the guests are safe and comfortable, and they're around for chats, feedback, meals. There was quite a lot of communal cooking while I was there, curry one night, tortilla another, snacks, desserts. And they do mediate between guests and ensure everyone is being treated well. The volunteers were all really nice people, who worked well and had a good time at their work, with each other and guests. I really enjoyed this hostel and will absolutely return!

Lovely place in the city center. Everything to visit was walking distance. The rooms were neat and spacious. Beyond anything else, the staff were really nice and helpful. The common spaces were really beautiful, loved hanging out with my friends there! Would absolutely recommend this to anyone visiting Bath.

Perfect Location, Friendly Staff, and Great Vibes! I had an incredible experience staying at this hostel! Its perfect location made it easy to explore the city and access key attractions effortlessly. The staff were absolutely amazing—super friendly, helpful, and always going the extra mile to ensure everyone felt at home. The environment was vibrant and social, with plenty of organized activities to meet fellow travelers and make memories. The rooms, bathrooms, and kitchen were impeccably clean, and the kitchen was well-equipped, making it a pleasure to cook meals. I also appreciated the hostel's commitment to sustainability, with thoughtful measures to reduce unnecessary consumption and promote eco-conscious living. If you're looking for a place that combines comfort, community, and a great sense of responsibility toward the planet, this hostel is a fantastic choice. Highly recommended!

My partner and I went to the hostel during new years and had an amazing time. The owner is extremely knowledgeable and gave us the kind of recommendations you would only get from a local. The hostel has an underground common area which is so relaxing. Everyone here was extremely friendly and they made sure we had a blast on new years!

After graduating from the University of Bath, I decided to spend two weeks at Bath Backpackers in September 2024, having stayed in a few other hostels around the area. For anyone budget-traveling in and around Bath, this is the place to be. The staff here are incredibly warm and welcoming; they go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and settled, which really makes a difference when you’re traveling. The beds are cozy, there’s plenty of luggage space, and the cleanliness of the shared spaces is a huge plus. The kitchen is stocked with everything you need, from cookware to seasonings, and with ample storage space. There are two common rooms filled with books, musical instruments, a TV, a workspace, and board games, so there’s always something to do. I noticed some older, less favorable reviews online, but if those were accurate once, it’s clear the team has gone above and beyond to make improvements. What’s especially memorable is how the staff are constantly adding thoughtful touches, like trying new recipes together and organizing group outings, which makes the experience feel more personal. I rarely write reviews, but I loved this place and it deserves all the appreciation. Hope to visit again someday!

This is not just a hostel. It is a home. The common areas are cozy and make you feel like it’s a home away from home. Rooms are also very clean. The owners and staff are extremely friendly and do everything in their power to make you comfortable. The location of the hostel is perfect, right in the center of the charming town. The staff sometimes organize fun activities for guests to attend which is amazing!! I never wanted to leave! Definitely will be back.

Yelp
Absolutely a classic youth hostel: bright colors and weird things painted on every wall. Good sized dorms with fully adequate rickety old beds. Great location - easy walking distance of every kind of trouble you want to get into in Bath. Very helpful and personable staff. 24 hour entry via code. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat. (I'd also go back to Bath in a heartbeat.)

Yelp
Stay far, far away! On first view Bath Backpackers seemed like such a fun and eccentric hostel. The website was full of photos of everyone dressed up in costumes and socializing in the "party dungeon" downstairs. My friend and I were looking forward to staying two nights while exploring Bath by day. We checked in at 9:30 p.m. and then left to get dinner and explore. When we came back at 12:30 a.m. we saw that out of our FOUR person room, THREE of our beds were already taken! How in the world?! Did they double book the bed?! We had to get the manager who apologized and they assigned us another bunk bed in a different room. We felt like giant jackasses coming and settling in at 1 in the morning in a room filled with six other people. We were given a pound each to make up for it. O_o While our bedmates were very quiet sleepers, there was a nightclub below us and people in the streets were shouting to each other *all* night long. It was nearly impossible to get any sleep. Late the next evening, we saw a couple from New Zealand try to settle in and they noticed that they TOO had their bed given away to someone else that night! Rather than talking to the manager, they just shared the twin sized bed instead. It was a rather miserable experience and I wouldn't recommend to anyone. PROS: The Hostel had hot water for showers. Breakfast wasn't bad, if very basic. The walls are very brightly colored. The kitchen is rather large and good if you want to cook your own dinners. The location is very close to the heart of Bath. CONS: The entire staff looked like they hated their life. The nightclub down below is too loud to get any sleep. The mattresses are rock hard. And apparently Bath Backpackers has a habit of double booking the beds. And I never saw one person ever in the "Party Dungeon".

Yelp
I'm going to stay 1 night at this hostel in mid-June but I'm writing about my bad experience with my booking with this hostel via Booking.com. A month ago, I booked 2 nights at Bath Backpackers Hostel through Booking.com because of its "Free cancellation" and "Don't worry -- pressing this button ("Reserve") won't charge you anything!" advertisement. Later on, my travel plan has changed, so I had to change the date and can only stay 1 night; that's why I had to cancel my first booking and make the 2nd one for just 1 night instead of just changing the date of travel in my 1st booking. Well, on the same days of my bookings, the hostel immediately took payment of 1 night for each reservation on my credit card. Since Booking.com mentioned that the hostel might take a "prepayment" and that there is a "Free Cancellation" until 3 days before my arrival, which is my case, I thought that I would get a refund for the cancelled reservation. However, when I wrote to Booking.com, all they did was to refer me to Bath Backpackers Hostel, and the only answer I got from the hostel was that they don't refund the "deposit", which is the first day of any reservation regardless of your stay. This non-refundable "deposit" or "prepayment" was not clearly stated on booking.com at the time I made the booking and now nobody wants to take responsibility. I ended up paying 2 nights for my 1 night in Bath in mid-June because of this hostel's payment policy. From now on, I'll think twice every time I see "Free cancellation" and I just hope that other tourists won't fall into the trap of "Free cancellation" and Bath Backpackers Hostel's "prepayment" policy.

Yelp
Perfectly located (although in retrospect this probably isn't hard to accomplish in Bath) for anything. Good rates, decent rooms and a lively atmosphere. If I were to return to Bath (and it's an awesome enough place I might) I'd stay here again without a second thought.
