This is a beautiful area of Open Space owned by the Town of Hingham. It's a great spot to watch boaters and other activity on the water.
The beach itself is very lucky and really only usable for swimming st high tide!
If you're very lucky, in June, you may see horseshoe crabs mating along the shore! The female is larger and may have several males vying for her favor...
The parking lot is used for selling Christmas Trees by the Hingham Congregational Church in December; the town uses the upland area for the annual historical recreation of the Battle of Grape Island; the Gazebo is used for the high school proms as a gathering point for photos; occasional concerts are held at the gazebo; recently, the town held a July Drone Show with food trucks and reserved seating around the 4th of July; and, in the past the weekly Farmers Market was located here.
Many residents may recall that an abundance of snow removed from downtown Hingham was brought to the parking lot in the record winter of 2015 to create the Snow Canyon that dwarfed the large excavators of the DPW. The last of the snow finally melted a few weeks before the 4th of July Parade, if memory serves!
