We had a great visit. Plenty of information at the start and we used the audio guide for more info around the area. We were lucky to visit on a really sunny day. All the staff are so friendly and helpful. One of the top attractions I've been to in England. Highly recommend for a great day out!

A lovely place to visit with a good climb up to the top of the gatehouse for nice views. A good little playground to keep the kids happy and a few picnic benches in the shade to enjoy lunch. The walk around the battle ground is easily done in 40 minutes with information boards around.

I haven't been here since I was a kid and brought my 9 year old as he is fascinated by history. It's amazing. The guides are friendly and very knowledgeable, we were able to tour the abbey itself which is a rare event so we dropped very lucky and Taskmaster (the TV show) had taken over the gardens with some fun and very silly games that all the kids we saw seemed to enjoy a great deal. My son loved the games, the tour and was very touched to see the Harold Stone - all in all a glorious day out and well worth the drive from Bognor (via West Yorkshire - we were on holiday from Leeds!) to take in the site.

A lovely day out and very interesting. Good playground for the kids and at the moment, there's a Taskmaster trail.to keep them entertained too. Only not 5 stars due to overly expensive food and drink at cafe.

English Heritage looks after this historic site and charge a good entrance fee for non-members. There are exhibitions in the Gate House and a viewing platform on the roof, reached with a 70 steps stairs. But you are rewarded with great views of Battle Town and the surrounding countryside. There is not much left of the original Abbey which was built to celebrate the 1066 victory of William the Conqueror over King Harold's army. There is a stone marking the site where Harold Godwinson is believed to have been killed.

We stopped to visit Battle Abbey on our way back home from a nice weekend on the coast. Ample parking behind the venue, free for English Heritage members. We didn't have our EH cards with us but the lady at the till was very nice and quickly found us on the system and we got in. We managed to catch up to the 11am tour, and I have to say our guide was very knowledgeable and very fun. He got everyone involved while recounting the story of Harold and William, and we strolled around the venue to see the major points of interest. After the tour we took out time and walked around the actual battlegrounds, with a nice path to follow, this takes about an hour. After we stopped for lunch, nice menus, a few vegan options, and incredibly good prices that I wasn't expecting. Worth a visit, especially if you catch the tour!

What an incredible walk through history. I have to admit when I first saw that I had saved this place. I wasn’t sure why I would want to go to an old Abbey but when I realized it was about the battle of Hastings and William the conqueror, I knew it was a place I needed to take my kids. We had a great time listening to the audio guide and walking around the battle field and learning about the history of the Normans and the claims for the crown and the battles that changed history. Go to the visitors center first. There is a lot of repetition from the visitors center to the placards and the Audio guide, but it helps to get the history cemented in your mind. It only cost £40 for a family pass. We enjoyed at least a couple hours there. Lots of fun statues to play with for kids big and little.

Another great day out at an English heritage site battle abbey. This is one of the best English heritage sites I’ve visited to date. As usual you are greeted by lovely members of staff who are always happy to answer your questions and explain the site you are visiting. First thing you should do is go up to the rooftop of the main entrance building. As you explore the building you learn all about the abbey and its history and the previous owners. When you climb up to the rooftop you have amazing views of the surrounding areas and the abbey itself. As you walk around the site you can walk through the fields where the famous battle happened in 1066. You can see the exact spot where king Harold was killed and defeated by William the conquerer. The remains of the abbey is a fascinating building to explore with amazing views and photo opportunities. The gardens are beautiful with lots of different flowers and trees to see that are well looked after. Wild garlic grows in abundance here and it really is a great sight. I would highly recommend visiting battle abbey as it’s a great day out with lots of things to do for adults and the children.
