14 Best Museums in Singapore | Condé Nast Traveler

"Located in Fort Canning Park, the Battlebox is an underground bunker/command center from the Second World War turned one-of-a-kind museum. The Malaya Command was headquartered here while defending Malaya and Singapore against the Japanese during the war. Most notably, it was in this bunker that the British ultimately surrendered Singapore to the invading Japanese forces on February 15, 1942—a fateful day that would change Singapore history forever." - Ashlea Halpern

Loved learning about the past of Singapore and this underground tunnel was a must visit for me. Learn about WWII and where the events took place leading up to General Percival’s surrender to the Japanese. Take a peek into how it must have been back then in the bunker… but now you’ve got great air conditioning in there so thankfully you don’t get the full experience of how uncomfortable it must have been. Some places feel a bit eerie, especially the walkway to one of the exit hatches where you could look up and see how you were many floors underground. Definitely a stop for WW2 enthusiasts to learn more about other events which they may not have heard of. Don’t miss the propaganda posters, those were fun to look at too. Pay a bit more for the full experience if you’re interested in history.

Fascinating WWII bunker that paying for it is mandatory to enter, highly reccomended for people that are interested in history and war. If you opt for the paid tour, you'll get a Samsung audio guide that walks you through all 14 rooms, plus some cool red and blue glasses to help you see both sides of the war. There are also lifelike human replicas to enhance the experience. As you wander around, you'll come across original artifacts from the past and British propaganda posters adorning the walls. And don’t miss the quirky older staff member who’s always ready to help lost visitors—it really adds to the charm! One unique bonus is the underground WiFi (available for purchase), which actually works inside the bunker. Tickets are priced at $15 for kids and $20 for adults, with a $5 discount for Singaporeans. Just a heads up: be careful when you’re entering and exiting, as it can get a bit slippery. All in all, it’s a 30-minute tour that’s definitely worth your time if you want to step back in history and get a feel for life in the bunker.

A very good museum, and the only way to visit is during an official tour. These take approx 1hr 15m and are a good length. Enough time to get a good look at the very intact bunker, and hear some of the story off the British defeat on the Malay peninsula and surrender of Singapore. Worth a read of some background info before or after too. The shop is well stocked with books etc and even a few snacks and cool drinks. Great place to visit!

My family and I recently visited The Battlebox in Fort Canning Hill, and we had a fantastic time. The tour was incredibly well presented by our guide, who was knowledgeable, engaging, and passionate about sharing the history of this remarkable bunker. The exhibits and multimedia displays were informative and immersive, and we really felt like we were transported back in time to Singapore during World War II. The experience was both educational and emotional, and we left with a deeper appreciation for the sacrifices made by the people who fought and worked in the bunker. Overall, I highly recommend a visit to The Battlebox for anyone interested in Singapore's history or World War II. It's a fascinating and unique attraction that is sure to leave a lasting impression.

I first wanna start with a WOW. This place was absolutely amazing! The staff was so kind with helping you get an app that helps you get a better experience through the museum with a walkthrough audio guide and helps you connect to the Wi-Fi. Now the museum its self was unbelievably good and the music and vibe to the place was so thrilling. The manakins as General Percival and the other people made it look like you were in there. I HIGHLY recommend bringing earphones for the audio guide which really enhances your experience. This museum makes you think “Wow, I can’t believe that where u am standing right now is where all this crazy stuff happened. It must’ve been so hard during those times with no AC working under all this stress” The history behind this place is truly amusing and every room unlocks a new memory that will make you remember how good this place was.

We did the tour by getting our tickets from the visitor centre. Please get them early as slots gets filled out pretty quickly. A bottle of water is provided with the ticket price of $30. The 2.5hr tour started off at the visitor centre with a 3 minute walk to the entrance of the bunker. Its a very informative tour and the guide is friendly and knowledgable. The bunker is sufficiently lit with air conditioning. nearest carpark is carpark b

When you are a tourist in Singapore and you and your child are interested in history, this is one place you should not miss. The Battlebox Museum houses WWII memorabilia. We were made witness to the unfolding of the war in the Southeast Asia Pacific Region and the events leading to its end. The bunker was amazing. The docent was very knowledgeable (of course) and witty. 😍 He gave us a wonderful tour of the place, one that greatly added to my knowledge of the war in the Pacific Region. We were advised to not take photos and videos that is why I only have photos of the tickets.
