Amazing hotel. Comfortable. Clean. Great eco credentials. We stayed in a lodge, which was spacious and full of character. Fantastic bathroom. |Really liked the restaurant and pub. |The attached observatory was also an interesting experience, even on the (disappointingly) cloudy night we were there. | Would happily stay there again.

The hotel is set above a very nice bar, with good parking out the back beside the observatory (which i think is also owned by the same people who own the bar and hotel). We arrived to a very friendly welcome from the staff who made us feel very welcome, especially our daughter. Our room was very tastefully decorated with a nice en-suite and sofa bed for the little one.|We ate in the restaurant and found the food was excellent. It was perhaps on the slightly pricier side but we felt it was worth it for the quality of the food. The beef cheeks were a particular high point for me.|We had a few drinks in the bar afterwards. Both the locals and other guests were extremely friendly and we had a really great night chatting with new friends. An interesting quirk of the bar is Gilroy, the cat often found curled up in front of the fire. Gilroy is named for a customer who sat in the same seat each day and, after his passing, the cat walked in off the street and curled up on his seat.|Overall, we had a fantastic evening and night and intend to stay again. Oh, and the breakfast is great, try the "wake up" marmalade.

We had a weeks stay here and loved it. We’ve never been to this part of the world before so had lots of exploring to do. |The reception team were always available for advise and recommendations. |We loved our lodge, jet bath and homemade cookies left daily! A real treat. |The housekeeping staff are excellent. Kept the room beautifully clean. |We ate dinner twice while staying here. Tasting menu and al a carte. Both super. Great vegetarian choice. |We loved the location, great to get around, and the village and local walks are also great. 👍🏻 for our dogs too.

The 'Luxury Lodge' is the way to go here. |Whether solo or with partner, you'll love it! (Very Dog friendly too)|The staff? Fabulous! each & every one of them. Bar, dining, house-team - outstanding. The 'luxury lodge ' though, Jacuzzi bath, electric Velux, fridge, space, sofa and a Sunrise view, which when and if, you venture across the courtyard feel car park, look through the wall over looking the garden at Breakfast time ... Sublime|Parking == easy (EV too x4 in total) plus more parking up the 'slope' :) |Thank you to ALL that looked after me during my brief stay in this really Nice setting, the village is very worthy of an explore! I loved it, felt 'at home' and am positive about the experience. Thank You

What a great place to stay. It has the feel of a cosy inn (we visited for four nights at the end of November/start of December) with cosy accommodation. Our room (number 1) was fairly small but very well appointed and equipped and we enjoyed it hugely. Also available (at extra cost) are the fantastic cabins at the rear (we took a sneaky peek inside one). The dining areas are stylish, light and open and the food is very good indeed. But the crowning glory are the staff - everyone was welcoming and friendly and some especially happy to enjoy a joke with us. There's plenty of parking and, of course, the observatory at the back, where we booked star gazing sessions on each of our four nights in the hope of seeing the northern lights. The lights didn't oblige, but seeing stars and planets through a large telescope in a dark sky area was inspiring. The sessions are run by an associated but separate company and I'll review them elsewhere.

This hotel has won many awards mainly for its eco credentials but everything about it deserves an award. Fantastic rooms, great staff and lovely food, ||The food is well presented and delicious with produce being sourced locally or grown in its own gardens. The bar is well stocked with a good selection of ales and spirits.||We stayed in a lodge which was spacious, well heated, very comfortable and had everything needed for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Based on previous stays we can say that the rooms in the main building are also very comfortable.||The staff are very friendly, attentive and nothing is too much trouble for them. A special thanks to Denisa and Dan for the first class restaurant and bar service respectively.||The hotel is in a quiet village about 10 miles from Hexham and it is always a pleasure to stay here. Already looking forward to returning in 2025!

We stayed here with our dog enroute both up and down the country on a recent holiday. Both rooms were clean and tidy. In the first the bathroom could've done with a bit of refresh and the overlarge bath seemed unnecesary, was too large for my wife and took up a but too much of the bathroom. A minor point and we would certainly stay again probably as a longer stay as there is so much to do in this part of the world.

Yelp
We stayed at the Battlesteads Hotel in August 2011 while walking Hadrian's Wall. Prior to the start of our walk, we were informed that when we reached Chesters Roman Fort and Museum, we should call the Battlesteads, and someone would pick us up and drive us to the hotel. However, when we called we were told it would be at least an hour before someone could come by, a bit off-putting considering we had been walking for several hours and simply wanted to shower and relax. We ended up hitching a ride with a tour group who was also staying at the hotel (we met their very kind bus driver at the tea room at Chesters), and were shown to a very small room that overlooked someone else's front yard. The room itself was comfortable, but so small there was no where to put our luggage. We simply had to step over our suitcases to move to either side of the bed. The bathroom was a bit of a surprise because it had a more modern look, complete with gray, rubbery floors. It certainly did the job, but the accommodations were not posh by any means (and I was not expecting luxury). After our showers, we had a few drinks in the garden before meeting a friend for dinner in the pub. The garden was lovely - the flowers were still very much in bloom, and a wooden fence around the property provided privacy from neighbors. It's my understanding that the pub uses fruits and vegetables grown in the garden. Dinner, on the other hand, was not what I expected from an award-winning pub (my partner informed me that the Battlesteads was "Pub of the Year" in 2010). The hake and chips was rather bland and the mushy peas did not boost the flavour profile. It seemed to me that Battlesteads was trying too hard to appear cosmopolitan, rather than focusing on good food and flavour. I appreciate locally sourced food, but it has to taste good as well.

Yelp
This place is lovely- my mother and I stayed last summer for just one night, and I wish it could have been longer. We had a nice twin room- slightly dated but very clean and comfortable, I suppose you'd call it quaint. The bar areas were very comfortable, but it's the food that really got me. I surprisingly had the nicest fajitas I've tasted! They also had a great selection of local cheeses. The waitstaff are all very knowledgable about the food and wine, and were more than happy to advise. We really enjoyed our stay, hopefully we'll be able to come again.

Yelp
We are from Texas . We stayed here with our friends from London, while hiking the wall. The hotel staff went above and beyond in their services. The staff was cheerful and extremely helpful. Denisa took care of us, as did the rest of the crew in the restaurant. We would stay here again.
