Bauerware is a great spot nestled in the heart of the Castro; it offers the city’s best selection of knobs and hardware, with styles suitable for an incredibly wide range of preferences. The staff is quite knowledgeable it as well as patient.

What a rude way of greeting a customer! I stopped by the store to ask a simple question and had to walk in as I had a piece of door hardware that I didn't know how to measure and I was greeted by a rude associate telling me "what do you want??" He sayed consultation are by appointment only, well if I knew they were I would have made an appointment! Your sign outside your door says other wise, infact it just says by appointment, it doesn't say by appointment only! There are definitely other ways to address any kind of situation and the rude ignorant associate really wasn't nice at all! I can only imagine how it would react if there is an issue in a potential transaction! I wouldn't recommend this business to anyone! I will gladly take my business somewhere else. Even in the owner description they say the their doors are open to the public and only suggest to make an appointment! Rude, rude, rude!

One major order for door knobs received with no problem. However No response to emails, phone calls regarding a mix up on a second order where we received the wrong robe knob and was told a new one would be ordered. Paid for the higher priced item & didn't get it. Our problem with Bauerware has been going on for over a year. We have moved on but we have not forgotten. Too bad, they had a great selection of wonderful door knobs, just poor follow up and lack of responsiveness.

12 years ago I had a stellar experience with Bauerware when remodeling my home. I had fun shopping there...excellent selection and the staff was friendly and helpful. A warm "retail" memory. I still enjoy my many purchases daily. Today, I was brought thuddingly down to earth as I expectantly visited the store. I was met with an AGGRESSIVELY RUDE DUDE, rude on an intergalactic scale. The young man pointedly ignored me for many silent minutes with him on a one-sided phone call and some more minutes after he hung up. He never acknowledged me in any way. The store is small and I was large-as-life right in front of him. I finally asked aloud if he was the person I should speak to. He mimed looking both ways as if looking to see if anyone else was there and smart-aleckly said "Do you see anyone else?"...and it continued downhill from there. He informed me that I should have had an appointment, that "what did I expect" when I was "interrupting" him by coming in the store (door open)...etc. He ended the interaction with a dripping-with-sarcasm "Sorry"...which I countered with a "Not accepted....just too rude....too too rude" over my shoulder as I was leaving the store. Would give 0 stars if I could. Owner ghosted us on two orders- won’t return calls, won’t answer texts, won’t show up for appointments. Owner owes us several thousand dollars worth of products never delivered! Stay away!

You might wonder how knobs and drawer pulls could be exciting but only if you've never visited Bauerware. This small store has literally thousands of knobs and pulls in all styles, from sleek to baroque, classic to avant-garde, practical to ridiculous. It's a fun place to take out-of-town visitors on a walking tour of the Castro, and I'm looking forward to when our daughter is old enough to do mini-redecorations of her own furniture (or constructions) with these wonderful items.

I wish I had read the last review before I came. I was treated very poorly as well. I bought a lot of hardware for my last home here and when I came to look for our new home I was told I needed to book an appointment. He literally showed me the door. Awful customer service. Stay away.

Made an appointment via their website. Showed up during appointment and no one was there or answered the video doorbell. No follow--up on missing the appointment or response to a second appointment requesting confirmation from the business. Don't bother with this business., used to be great but not anymore.
