I walked into this bar on a freezing night in Bruges, looking for a warm wooden refuge and a proper Belgian beer to set the tone. The place looks incredible — all wood, cozy lighting, the kind of spot you want to land in when you’ve just arrived in the city.
I ordered a Tripel, and while I was checking out the Delirium elephant on the menu, the bartender noticed. He asked if I wanted to try it, and I said yes. Next thing I know, he pours a full beer — no taste, no moment to explore, just straight to the bill. Fine, whatever.
But here’s where the soul slips: instead of checking in, asking how it was, or sharing even a hint of that famous Belgian bar culture… he didn’t say a word. He just looked at my glass from afar to see if it was empty enough to sell me another one. Zero service. Zero humanity.
At that point, you might as well replace the staff with robots. A place can look beautiful, but without real human warmth, it’ll never be truly authentic.
