Google
Love the spot for it’s simplicity, good prices and great food . Most of the menu is Asian Cuisine that includes sushi and sashimi. Didn’t expect but even the cheeseburger with fries came out delicious and the portion was huge. Pistachio milkshake is on point too. Only minor disappointment - I’ve asked for a shot of rum and they charged me 10$ for it (considering the fact that whole mojito cocktail is cost 11$ I feel like the waiter just came out with price himself). Other then that, nice and simple spot

Google
If I could I would rate it 0 stars. I tried giving this place so many chances because I really enjoyed their chicken and broccoli. From writing off the chicken being too hard or even undercooked once (a piece was literally PURPLE) but today was my last straw. I found TINY BUGS in the food - on the chicken and on the broccoli. I am absolutely repulsed and disgusted. This place needs to pass a health inspection.

This place is definitely my go to if I'm in City Place. If you want a cocktail or some sushi this is your spot. I love the sushi pizza. The sushi rolls are great. And the margaritas are tasty. Parking is a bit of a pain but it's worth. Please check it out...

Google
Probably the best Asian restaurant in the area. I've had a few different dishes here and have always been pleased. Service can be a little slow, especially if you're sitting outside, but never so much that it was annoying. The views from it don't hurt either!

Google
This place is so delicious! My husband and I’s favorite place to go every now and then. My favorite is the shrimp fried pineapple rice, teriyaki chicken, the baumgarts salad amazing!!!! And spicy tuna hand roll! Definitely recommend coming here for anytime lunch, dinner , and dessert! And it’s right on the water and you can walk around shop or walk besides the water.

Yelp
Yesterday was my birthday, and we made our annual trip to Baumgarts. We usually went to Englewood, but that closed recently. We went to Edgewater for lunch. They have the best milkshakes. I only have one once a year, and it met or exceeded my expectations. The whole experience was fantastic. Service great, water glasses filled often. Food was very good. My wife had the tuna, real white tuna over salad. I had the BLT with acacado. We didn't have the sushi or Chinese. Total cost 42 plus tip. Tip park underneath by the stairs

Yelp
Came here for the first time and ordered one roll of sushi, flat noodles with chicken, and Malaysian curry. All 3 dishes had no flavor and were sloppy and unappealing in presentation. The beef in the curry was chewy and overcooked. The potatoes were undercooked. Clearly, they don't take pride in what they serve. My friend and I had to drench both entrees in sriracha to add flavor. Service was ok. Would never come back here for Asian food.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem in Edgewater. It truly has the best American-Chinese food we've ever had. This family style family-run restaurant serves top quality classics like General Tso, Steam or Fried Dumplings, Sesame Chicken and Chicken or Beef Fried Rice They also serve some more traditional dishes like dim sum and soup dumplings which are truly excellent. We had all the dishes above and would rate them better than any other American Chinese. Would recommend this place for a small dinner or a big get together. You won't be let down!

Yelp
Came here for lunch and I like that they had a large menu with a ton of options. We sat outside with a beautiful view of the city but the service was slow the entire time. I went for the Thai Spiced Crunch Salad with shrimp and my friend got Egg Fried Rice. I enjoyed the salad, but it was drenched in dressing and I don't think the shrimp was very good; I would pass on the shrimp. My friend asked for a side of teriyaki sauce when he ordered and he had to request it again once his meal came. They didn't come to check on us often and it took about 10-15 min before they offered water. Overall it was okay, the view was the best part. Ambience: 3.5/5 Food: 3.5/5 Drinks: N/A Service: 2.5/5 Baumgart's Cafe: 3.2/5

Yelp
Been going here for forever! Such a large restaurant with great indoor & outdoor seating. The portions are big so get ready to dig in. My favorite dishes are boneless bbq ribs, sesame chicken, and beef lo-mein. Staff are always friendly and ready to help.

Yelp
I havent eaten here in about 13 yrs, and to be honest i was a bit skeptical after readin these reviews. it seems this place has gone down the drain. however, my family and i had a great time on a thursday night. the negative: we made reservations a few days head, and they didnt have them. we arrived about 5 mins before 7 pm and they didnt have them. they didnt have my name or the reservations. the place had almost every table full, so i was a bit worried. i saw a booth by the window and we grabbed it. it was my moms birthday so that would have sucked if we couldnt get a table. anyway, onto the good shit. the drinks and beers are modesty priced. the red apple sangria was tasty. they also have some craft beer and a good sake selection. the truffle fries had little to no truffle taste. they were a nice size basket,we all shared it. they were good, thin fries, but had herbs and parm cheese on them. the sweet potatoe roll was good, warm, very filling. rice was cooked well. spicy warm peanut noodles were good. i see now they use udon noodles. i remember the sauce being a little runnier back in the day, but even though it was thicker this time around, i still loved them. i asked for spice - but i didnt think they were spicy at all. ps, the serving is HUGE! i ate it as an entree, but wow i should have shared more. i took most it back ( i dont reccomend this since it dries up). the sesame chicken with rice and veggies was so damn good. the chicken was the best part of the night. plump chicken pieces, deep fried and crunchy shell, and good sesame sauce. my entree was the veggie fried rice. i loved the touch of eggs in it. the amount of veggies were great. however, it needed to be fried more. i think it was more in the white rice family. again, this portion was HUGE. for $13, u can easily get 2 meals out of this. chicken terriyaki with veggies gets served on a skillet, it comes out sizzling. impressive. the peanut butter choc cake was okay. its house made. not bad flavor, but think they need to let it sit for a little berfore serving it. it was too cold, almost frozen. our server was great, quick, and service was fine. would come back for that chicken!

Yelp
A little surprised at the lower reviews on here but I've been here once so far. The service was very attentive and knowledgeable which I appreciated. The decor is a bit funky but the restaurant was clean. We had the Mongolian beef & chicken and broccoli bento box . Both were delicious! The chicken is real sliced chicken breast and the portions were excellent. The Mongolian beef was yum!!!! We also finished off strong with their homemade ice cream sundae .

Yelp
I have been going to the Baumgardts place in Ridgewood for probably 20 years or more and for the last five years to the location in Edgewater I have never had any time had anything but a very good meal always been good and food has been consistently very good the ice cream is also very good. I highly recommend this place. It's not fancy but it's always been clean and the food is fresh. location in Englewood was recently closed and I'm not surprised the few times I've gone there. I've been disappointed.

Yelp
Satisfying food, nice service, and no wait on a Saturday night. The sushi wasn't life changing but it was pretty good, came out fast, and left us both full! Very reasonably priced for three rolls as well. We both ordered the Sushi Roll B platters (which were accompanied by side salads) in addition to some fun drinks. Huge fan of both the Thai Bubble Tea and Lychee on crushed ice. Overall, would recommend for a lax dinner out.

Yelp
The place to be especially on Christmas! We eat here often & love the sushi, steamed shrimp dumplings, eggplant combination & any chicken dish. BYO

Yelp
My wife and I have ate here on New Years Eve every year since 2016 and it never disappoints. Food: I am not a big fan of American-styled Chinese food, but this place has done nothing but satisfy. I have gotten the General Tso's which is savory and sweet with a light kick of spice and this year my wife got the Mongolian Beef which was exceptional. The sushi is always good, albeit a little expensive. Service: service is always polite! The food actually comes out pretty quickly if it is slow in the building (10-15 minutes) and they waitresses have always been kind. Aesthetic: I have ate here during the day, but the view of the river is nice and the interior is clean.

Yelp
Wonderful classic Asian dishes plus ice cream and pastries. They are quickly becoming my absolute favorite for the nostalgic mei fun, sesame chicken and diner classics like chicken fingers and fries or grilled cheese and fries, or chicken salad. Between the ambience and the classic and not so classic takes on a number of dishes with my family as a little girl at a diner which closed years ago but the quality of the food at Baumgart cafe is so much better then the dinner with my grandparents years ago. Excellent service, fast delivery, polite service.

Dee D.

Yelp
Ordered take out from here, ordered veggie fried rice with egg. Once I started to eat the rice I started chewing on shards of eggshells. I gave it the benefit of the doubt that just one small piece of eggshell got into the food. But once I kept eating I chewed on more and more. Upon inspecting the food I found a huge piece of eggshell. Not sure how so much eggshell gets into the food unless done purposefully. Really disappointing.

Yelp
Nice clean dining area with comfortable booths or tables. Attentive service. The wonton soup featured home made wontons with a delicate wrapper...so delicious! I ordered the long beans in brown sauce with shrimp, which tasted wonderful. I can hardly wait to come back to try more dishes from the extensive menu!

Yelp
We recently had dinner here because we had errands in the complex. I avoided this place for a long time due to the bad Yelp reviews. Well, I'm really surprised that what we got was pretty good. The menu is very extensive and a bit all over the place, like many americanized Asian places. They also had healthy options. Food was fast. - The beef pad thai was delicious -- I'm not Thai, but I do have pad thai preferences and I thought it was perfect here. - The orange beef was not bad/standard (I grew up eating orange beef). Large portion size, tender beef. Better than Panda Express. - The bubble tea was weird. The bubbles aren't the typical dark brown tapioca calls, but lighter brown and crunchy (like what some places call white pearls). The tea was a strong brew and super sweet. It's served in a mason jar and unfortunately half of it was ice. We will be adding this place for when we want Chinese American dishes, or pad thai. We paid with Visa.

Yelp
A little on the expensive side but a classic spot that's been around for ages. The thickest lo mein noodles you'll find anywhere.
google avatar

Ilysse W.

Yelp
My grandmother is obsessed with this restaurant--whenever we're here and I don't propose another spot (usually Brooklyn pizza or Brownstones), this is her go to. I've never been a fan but my Covid-takeout order has made me a fan. The food came quickly and was piping hot. We had a minor issue, but the restaurant went out of their way to call us back to fix our problem (which wound up being a user error, not a restaurant error). The chicken and shrimp was a little over cooked--both the chicken and the breaded shrimp--but the chicken and pine nuts was nice, the lo mein was great, and we enjoyed both the sushi and the egg rolls. Delivery was on time and directly to my door. Especially for delivery, this was nice and it always feels good to support a local biz.

Yelp
Stay away from this place!!! I ordered food from this disgusting place yesterday and the delivery guy (sent from the restaurant) yelled at me demanding a tip in the lobby of my luxury condominium complex! He was cursing and yelling at me and saying things in Chinese In front of the concierge. Mind you the tip was left on the card but he wanted it in cash!!! Never in all my life has this happened to me. Never again!!!! I called to speak to the manager JACK and do you know what he said? "Well what do you want me to do about it? Tips are how he makes a living" WHAT?!!!!!! I was appalled. If I can get this place shut down I will! Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere!! PLEASE stay away!!!!!

Yelp
Everything I tried on the menu has been delicious . Friendly wait staff and prompt service....I especially love the cold sesame noodles...

Yelp
If I could give a negative review I would I been ordering from here 2-3 times a week!!! For delivery to fort lee. No more! The man who answers the phone, may be the manager, has absolutely no manners or customer service skills. Patronizing . Delivers the wrong orders, then screams over the phone when we tried to get a credit . Don't need to accept this kind of animal behavior for mediocre food. The choice around Fort Lee/ Edgewater is huge. Others appreciate my business.
google avatar

Yelp
We highly recommend this place. We come here, many times a week and have tried many things on the menu. Everything is delicious. We also go out to nice restaurants in the city on a regular basis. This place is much better, better service, better, food, and lower prices. Nobody paid me to write this. We just love it here and we can't wait to come back. You will love it here!

Barry C.

Yelp
Been ordering from here for years. Always hot, always quick and tasty. I'm a master of routine so I usually order the same thing. Won Ton Soup; ribs, moo shu pork, eggplant and mixed flat noodles. We've ordered from elsewhere in the area but always come back to Baumgarts. Their American food is excellent too..

Yelp
Families STAY AWAY, I don't think I have ever been mistreated this bad by a restaurant like we have been treated today. Our toddler was upset for a few minutes, and the owner came over, impolitely asking us to leave. To add insult to injury he even said don't ever come back like we were planning to. I'm still in shock how a business can survive like this!
google avatar

Yelp
First off, this place advertises as one thing, but is a whole other. It's very confusing. So let me be honest. I have never given anyone a one star but this place probably deserves a half of a star. Let me start off with the staff. We walked in and the lady behind the counter didn't say a word and when we finally spoke to her after 5 minutes of standing there, she was very rude and the waiter was very unfriendly as well. We ordered a pitcher of mojito's and chips & guacamole to start and placed an order for two salads. The chips and guacamole was not very good and as we drank the mojito's and waited for our salads to come we were about two glasses in and I was like, Is there any alcohol in this to my gf? So she walks up to bar area and they told her they had forgot to put the Bacardi shots in it. Wow! So, if we didn't tell them that would have been a very expensive pitcher of sugar water. SMH! Then we waited for at least one and a half hours for our salads and the restaurant was completely empty. No joke! The salads were mediocre at best. Looking back I can see now why this place was completely empty at lunch time. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place. I can't see them getting any better so I won't be back.

Charlotte T.

Yelp
The foods pretty good but not out of this world. Good service and nice little restaurant.

Yelp
Was craving Pad Thai so decided to stop in for a quick bite for lunch. Walked in just around 12pm, the place was fairly empty. We were told to sit anywhere so grabbed a seat by the window. Ordered a chicken Pad Thai & shrimp Pad Thai with hot sauce on the side and an edamame appetizer. Appetizer came out quite quickly. While waiting for the rest of the food, server came around to mention that they started selling bubble tea. Servers were friendly and the service was overall decent. Food was not bad but nothing special. Not a bad place for a quick and quiet lunch on a weekday.

Mansi G.

Yelp
If you have young kids, absolutely stay away from this place! We were told to leave in the middle of our lunch by the restaurant manager. We asked to be seated in the quiter section of the restaurant in the beginning itself. There was literally no one in that section when we came in. Our toddlers were not even throwing a fit/crying or roaming around. They were on their high chairs the whole time, just babbling and being kids! We seldom go out to eat with our young kids, only settled to be here because the whole section where we were seated was empty when we first came in. You shouldn't even allow families/young kids in the first place, rather embarrassing the parents publicly asking them to leave without finishing their meal. What a nightmare! To add, the restaurant manager is the rudest person I have ever come across.

Malak S.

Yelp
If I could give them no stars I would. The owner is the biggest asshole piece of shit. Shitty customer service, don't bother going there. Sushi isn't even that good. They have too much going on on their menu so quality is cheap all around. Honestly f*ck this place. I hope they shut down.
google avatar

Lou S.

Yelp
Best Chinese food around, and great ice cream too! A family favorite. Chicken and Pine nuts rick!
google avatar

Elysa D.

Yelp
I ordered for my mother a small meal today and she said, the sashimi was just two pieces nothing under or with it. I also ordered seaweed salad and she felt it was puny for the $8.50 size. There was also one other roll The overall meal wasn't work the cost, $31 with tip and tax. I get that food is expensive but this was not impressive.

Yelp
This once comfort food haven is now a shell of it's old self. What use to be a fun place with excellent service, good size portions and quality ingredients. Now is a sad reminder of how some restaurants can deteriorate little by little till theirs nothing left to remind us of what made them great to begin with. That is what's happened to this once iconic location. Portions are now much smaller and prices are up. The quality of their ingredients and cooking is now no better than a local takeout greasy spoon. They now add a service charge on every check, if for no other reason than to remind us upon leaving of how far they have fallen. Stay away is my advice and find another place who actually cares about the full dining experience as being a positive one.
google avatar

Doreen P.

Yelp
Love Baumgarts so glad their back open and delivering. This is my favorite place for Chinese and sushi it's always fresh and it's not greasy like most take out places.. they delivery promptly and with safeguards in place !!
google avatar

Natalie T.

Yelp
Spent $80 on food and left tip on the card. Delivery driver refused to leave the property ringing the bell and knocking the door unless we gave him $5 more. Harassed my elderly non-English speaking family members. I called the restaurant telling them about the situation and they said "that's just business" and I left the additional tip on my card just so the driver could leave. My elderly, immuno-compromised family member handed him cash so he could leave despite COVID happening and delivery instructions said to leave food on porch so there would not be face-to-face exposure. Delivery driver ended up walking away with a TRIPLE tip and the restaurant supported this illegal and dangerous behavior.

Yelp
What just happened? I've consistently been ordering chirasi from here since I moved to the area since August 2020. I would say have ordered at least five times since, if not more. The sushi portion is the same but what happened to the rice portion? Were they just short on rice tonight??? Same with salad portion. Received half than usual. Disappointed, will have to find a new chirasi place in the area.
google avatar

Mickey V.

Yelp
Somewhat pricey, but totally worth it. This is some of the best Chinese/japanese around. The boneless ribs are absolutely to die for. General Tso's might be some of the best I've ever had. The sushi is also really good, we like to mix it up and get some of the Chinese and some of the Japanese when we go. One of my absolute favorites spots and hands down great food.
google avatar

Stefani P.

Yelp
If I could rate this place 0 star it would be so!!!! Came here as a farewell dinner to my grandmothers retirement, Big party of people. Restaurant was not that busy. Drinks took 20 minutes food took another 30 to 45 minutes. The waitress was NOT Attentive at all. And to top it off she spilled sauce on my jeans as she was bringing my food to the table late, all the while while she was grabbing me a napkin with a little bit of club soda. We noticed that she also spilled sauce all over the back of my fiancé's very expensive shirt!! And failed and even telling us that she did as though. We found that very rude and unprofessional, and didn't even receive an apology. Management did not comp The tab at all when bringing the check, this place lacks professionalism, hospitality, and general sympathy. This place sucks! I will never recommend anyone to eat here
google avatar

Sam W.

Yelp
For reference, this review pertains to the food itself, since I ordered Baumgart's sushi through GrubHub. After Friday night plans were abruptly canceled, I decided to make it a night in, and ordered some sushi through GrubHub. It had been a few months since I had been to Baumgart's, and remembered it being decent, so I was excited to have their sushi and placed an ordered for their A Roll Combo (Yellowtail, California Roll, and Tuna) with Miso Soup. I learned that good things come to those who wait, since it took a little over an hour for my food to be delivered. Order was accurate (with brown rice). The miso soup was warm, not too salty, and had the right balance of miso chunks and seaweed. As for the sushi itself, all of the fish tasted fresh, with the tuna roll being my favorite. Sushi was easy to eat, even if it needed a little soy sauce. All I can say is that the sushi at Baumgart's is absolutely worth the wait in delivery. Will need to come back again in person soon!

Nicole K.

Yelp
Found a fish scale in my sushi and bit into it like a rock. horrible experience and ruined my entire meal

Esther L.

Yelp
If ur coming for the food... its just OK The view is good depending on where you sit Interior is nice (kind of dirty but whatever) and service is alright But like... the FOOD The portions are large and prices are decent (esp lunch menu) but taste wise go somewhere else

Yelp
I have always enjoyed Baumgarts. When we are in New Jersey we usually stop there. My son lives in Edgewater and we like going there. They have a regular menu and they specialize in Chinese dishes. Always a good meal. Check it out
google avatar

Claire M.

Yelp
Love this spot. Where else can you get sushi, dim sum and a burger with fries at the same place!? All of the dishes are great and they have a nice happy hour drink special. The decor is also interesting yet cozy -- sophisticated take on a diner. The server was very attentive and genuinely nice. As we were leaving, it started pouring and he literally offered to lend us his umbrella! Highly recommend.
google avatar

Jeanna G.

Yelp
I'll be honest when I say this experience was really sub par for what I expected from my other experiences with Baumgart's Cafe. My friend and I were hungry and decided to come here being it was walking distance from the store we were in shopping. We were seated rite away in a booth and it took the waitress a very long time to come over and ask us if we wanted any beverages. While waiting we looked over the entire menu and discovered they were offering brunch so we both ordered eggs benny. The meal took forever to get to the table. Once it arrived we were not impressed with the meal at all. The eggs were not seasoned at all, the english muffin not really toasted at all. The hollandaise sauce was not good at all. I really don't think I will be back to this location after this experience.
google avatar

Joseph G.

Yelp
This is my first review of Baumgart's, however I've been here a few times before. The atmosphere is relaxing and the noise level is normal. My dish was steak teriyaki with brown rice on the side. The steak was very tender and came with a nice mix of vegetables.
google avatar

Deidra J.

Yelp
I prefer the Edgewater location over the town that I live in (Englewood). Cleaner establishment that offers a great brunch! My favorite brunch item is the salmon and scallion omelet & I usually wash it down with a couple of mimosas. They do offer a few lunch specials during the week up until 4p. They used to only accept Amex for credit card payments but recently accept also Visa and MasterCard. Servers are always friendly and they are very accommodating to parents with infants in strollers and carriers. This is very important to me being a new mom.

Ed p.

Yelp
This place is terrible. Expensive, bad food, and service is subpar. Also, sound reverberates like crazy inside, so the restaurant is always loud. One redeeming quality is the drinks. Would recommend the place if you are looking for an iced coffee or sparkling fruit drink for take out.
google avatar

Christian L.

Yelp
I cannot comment obviously during these times about the inside of this establishment. I am familiar where it's located, which is a small promenade with other restaurants and retail stores. There is ground level parking and below level parking. But who needs parking now anyway?? They recently reopened for delivery and takeout. My wife loves this place, she usually gets Sushi. Spicy Tuna Roll, Spicy Yellowtail Roll, Spicy Salmon Roll. I'm not a big fan of Sushi, to me after one piece it's like chewing gum. Unfortunately my wife cannot have the Sushi she adores just yet, Dr's orders. So tonight we ordered Fried Shrimp Tempura Roll, Chicken Lo-Mein and Boneless Spare Ribs. The Fried Shrimp were nice and crispy also very fresh. The portion is really only enough for one, so I let my wife have the majority. The Chicken Lo-Mein was tasty, the chicken nicely cooked and juicy. The noddles were also done to the right consistency. The Boneless Spare Ribs were overdone, the Bbq sauce accompanied with them helped a little. Even the sauce was bland and lacked flavor, some S&P would have helped. Delivery time was long, we ordered and waited over an hour to receive our food. I'm not going to knock them on that, being as they just reopened. The delivery person was very aware of social distancing and placed our order on our porch. When ordering online you can leave the tip so there's no signing of a receipt of any kind. We're just happy to support our local businesses as much as possible, and are aware it will take time to get back to normal.

Yelp
We have been clients for years and for the past year the quality of meats has been downgraded dramatically. Chicken they buy is so plastic and hard to chew. For some time we thought it was coincidence but after many visits it showed to be the norm. Half of the meals are just not eatable. We just can't endorse this place any longer. :(
google avatar

Gerald G.

Yelp
Very disappointed in this place food quality and service has been declining in the last few years it's actually hit rock bottom after several issues with my orders and with all the new and fresher more higher quality places in the area Baumgarts has had its run and from the way things look it seems like they might be going out of business because a restaurant that doesn't care about long time customers orders being properly prepared and the quality of there food is on the brink of closing it's doors farewell baumgarts.
