Where to Go for Labor Day Weekend to Avoid the Crowds

"Baxter's Brewhouse Inn is the nation's first Bed & Brew (being a bed & breakfast that also brews beer)."

3 Best Day Trips from Charleston, South Carolina | Condé Nast Traveler

"What looks like an unassuming home in fact houses what’s billed as the country’s first Bed & Brew (yup, that's a bed and breakfast that makes its own beer). The house, which owner Joseph Baxter and his mother, Clare Reigart, maintain, is a disarming shade of bright teal and has an all-American look about it; it's sizable and tidy, in a good-looking part of town. Guests here are typically unified not by their aesthetic but by their enthusiasm for craft beer , and they've come to the right place: Joseph is a beer expert who's been brewing the stuff for more than 20 years, and gladly hocks his hoppy wares to guests. Just remember to book in advance: there are only three available rooms." - Paul Oswell

Staying at the Baxter Brewhouse Inn was a wonderful experience and one I recommend to anyone who wants to visit Georgetown, SC. It is the perfect location for getting around in Georgetown, SC - you can walk down to Front Street which is where all the shops and restaurants are located. It is a charming building that has all the amenities - don’t let the shared bathrooms scare you away as there are only three bedrooms and two beautiful bathrooms. The bed and bedding was so comfy and there is plenty of shared spaces both indoors and outdoors. I will definitely come back for another visit and bring my family or friends! |Judy

My sister and I had such a fun and wonderful experience at the Brewhouse this weekend! Instead of bed and breakfast, it’s bed and beer! The owners make their beer and open the Brewhouse on Saturday. But while you’re a guest, you get beer! The Inn was lovely, bedrooms very comfortable. They honestly think of everything- water, Gatorade, snacks, a Kurig with pods, ice, and beer! We stayed there to go to the Edgar Allen Poe experience and they gladly took pictures of us in our speakeasy dresses. The location to Front Street was great. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

We specifically planned a night in Georgetown because of this one of a kind “Bed and Brew.” My husband and I recently became “brew pub” people, always looking for a brewery when we travel, so as to try a local beer. (I swear - we’re not alcoholics!!) As a bonus, we usually find interesting and open people with whom to share beer and stories. Baxter’s B&B delivered on all accounts. I wasn’t sure what the rooms would be like, nor the whole community bathroom situation, (It’s been decades since my European youth hostel days!) but it was lovely. Everything was sparkling clean, the room was pretty and the bed was as comfortable as could be; and for a very reasonable price! I highly recommend!

I had so much fun at Joseph & Tina's Bed & Brew! These hosts are wonderful, the location is perfect and the handcrafted beer is pro-level! The town's festival was amazing; but even better was the live band at the B&B. I would definitely stay again and recommend to others!

I absolutely loved staying here! The owner made booking so easy and was so welcoming! It was the perfect stay for this solo traveler. It's hard to pick a favorite thing about this place but highlights include: being cheerfully greeted with a delicious brown beer, the cozy outdoor sitting area for guests to mingle, and all the detail in the quaint yellow room I stayed in! I went to a concert at House of Blues Myrtle beach and this was a perfect halfway point to be able to spend time in Georgetown the next morning and not have as long of a drive home. Already trying to figure out when I can return!

Love, love, love this inn. The location is perfect for visiting historic Georgetown, just a couple short blocks to great restaurants, shopping, and waterfront. It’s an historic home—three rooms, coffee and breakfast on the go-but it’s also a Brewhouse! Yes, you really can drink free delicious microbrews at any time, brewed in house by Joseph.|The hosts, Joseph and Tina, were so gracious and hospitable. Little touches throughout made our stay perfect—plug extenders in the rooms, a nicer hair dryer than I use at home, sitting areas with TV, lovely porch to watch the evening come on, even bug spray and sunscreen if you forget you’re in coastal Carolina in the spring. They checked in with us on our trip to recommend places to visit and dine, places they actually go, which were awesome. |We were as comfortable there as if we were staying with family, the ones you like 😉 We’re already planning to return!

Very convenient location! Close to the restaurants, museums, and shops on Front Street. It’s clean and beds are comfortable. Be aware that 3 rooms share 2 bathrooms, so you have to share. There is free beer, since it is a brew house, but I don’t drink, so I think I paid for something (in the cost of the room) that I didn’t actually use. Breakfast consists of coffee and packaged snack foods. The whole place could use some decluttering. The host was super-nice and accommodating.

The lodging was barely acceptable until the second night when totally unacceptable. Against their own policy, the owner allowed a check-in at 1:00 am. The people were in the hallway outside our room speaking loudly with the owner without regard to the other two room patrons who were asleep. They kept asking asking and whatever until after 3am. The front porch was trashy, the furniture in common areas was shabby and not conducive to relaxing with the common area TV. We would never do this again. Only fraternity brothers might like the free beer but it was a disaster for couples seeking to getaway.

Yelp
This place was such a blessing to me and bestie on our girls getaway weekend. Joseph greeted us like old friends. The brews were wonderful and he offered up some the moment we got there. The room was clean! This place really thought of everything, there were so many little touches: soap, towels, handclothes, books, board games, breakfast, guide suggestions, and so much more. They provided cleaning services everyday. It really facilitated a sense of community. People could spend alone time or go into the public spaces for socialization. I see people left reviews about roaches...I stayed there three nights and didn't see a single one. I saw roaches out at night IN THE TOWN so people didn't do their research, that's just one of the critters of the town and should NOT be a reflection of this bed and breakfast. They are clean, friendly, and a wonderful place to stay. We're actually going to to make this stay and annual vacation spot. So see you next year!

Yelp
The only rental I've ever been in (and I have rented MANY homes) where the owner checks in multiple times, daily, without warning. We came home from a wedding rehearsal dinner to find him waiting at the door to tell us we're no longer allowed in the house. The police showed up a few minutes later... He said we smoked in the house which wasn't true but claimed he saw us on his cameras which are placed around the home. Which, by the way, is a VIOLATION of the VRBO rules and a VIOLATION of our privacy. He should be reported for this an banned from renting the home while the cameras are still in the house. Who knows what he has recorded on those cameras and possibly kept for his private collection. The cameras aren't completely in plain sight and seem to be purposely hidden. Sketchy.

Yelp
Cute, cozy, quaint, close to everything. Lovely hosts with warm southern hospitality! Highly recommend

Yelp
Baxter's Brewhouse was awesome!! My husband and I stayed a few nights here this last July and loved it! The rooms were clean, environment was cozy, beer was cold and tasty! Great location and owners!! Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Stumbled across this place by chance and couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised. Not only are the accommodations cozy and comfortable and the hosts full of Southern hospitality, but there is also home-brewed beer on tap all of the time! Close to everything in historic Georgetown. Walk easily to restaurants and the waterfront. I will definitely be staying again in the future!

Yelp
Spent an early birthday weekend at Baxter's Brewhouse Inn. The green room was so cozy and comfortable. The house itself is a southern work of art close to all downtown Georgetown has to offer. Joe and Tina are wonderful hosts who have thought of everything. The best part is that you get free home brewed beer with your room. How could that ever be a bad thing?

Yelp
Very Quaint and Cozy. Plus selections of craft beer available at your leisure. Provided snacks and toiletries. Clean and well lit. I want to bring more people with us next time!

Yelp
Spent my husbands birthday weekend there with friends. Perfect location to use as base to walk all over town. The entire space was very clean. The beer on tap was delicious and the root beer was an added treat. We loved the quaintness of the place. They provide a full coffee bar, snacks and plenty of water and drinks. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were good sized. Would highly recommend!

Yelp
I stayed in the Purple Room at the Brewhouse for my friend's January wedding; it was an awesome experience. Joseph was extremely kind and hospitable; the BnB is well stocked with amenities such as coffee, snacks, a light breakfast, extra toiletries. Joseph keeps everything you need on hand--plus home brew on tap! The place is extremely comfortable and welcoming and is a block away from historic Georgetown and the Harbor Walk. I'll absolutely be back!

Yelp
Place has a great vibe. I came down for wedding and basically just needed a good quiet place to crash. Coffee upstairs and beer on tap downstairs. It's in a good neighborhood so your not concerned about your car. Nice place

Mike F.

Yelp
Very homey and comfy. Sleep well and other quests were quiet. One block off front street restaurants and bars.

Yelp
Husband and I stayed for two nights to explore Georgetown and nearby beaches, and Baxter's was the perfect base to do that from! Two minute walk to all that downtown Georgetown has to offer, and 25 minute drive to Pawleys Island beaches. We spent both evenings on the porch with delicious homebrewed beer in hand, and woke mornings to baked goods and coffee. Amenities were clean and welcoming, and we couldn't have asked for better communication from our hosts. Thank you for the wonderful stay, Baxter's Brewhouse Inn!
