10 Best Food Markets in Cape Town

"A festive indoor market (it's bound to be lively, rain or shine) on the water's edge in Hout Bay, the Bay Harbour Market is a a popular weekend destination for food, crafts, live music, and more. This definitely isn't just another market—slow-roasted lamb, anyone?" - Mary Holland

An In-Depth Travel Guide to Cape Town (Updated 2025)

"On weekends Hout Bay’s Bay Harbour Market buzzes with artisans selling everything from fish stew and crêpes to jewelry and mojitos alongside live music; we stumbled on it after swimming with the seals and loved it so much we returned — the market runs Friday evenings (5pm–9pm) and weekends (9:30am–4pm), the bay is home to seals and seabirds, migrating whales can be seen June–November, and whale-watching tours cost around 1,450 ZAR per person (many tours aren’t available to kids under 7)." - Matthew Kepnes

The Hout Bay Harbour Market is charming. It has everything you need for a wonderful breakfast or lunch. A wide selection of sweets and pastries. Craft beer, cured meats, and fresh pizza are also available. You can also buy clothing, leather accessories, and jewelry. The atmosphere is very cozy, safe, and relaxing.

This market has some local craft work and unusual souvenirs. Also local and multi cultural food on offer as well as clothing, fruit, cured meats etc. I really loved some of the metal sculptures outside. There are both indoor and outdoor seating areas and tables, and the outdoor area has a great view of the mountains. That said, I took the bus and the trip took about an hour and a half. In all honesty, compared to how small the market actually is, I didn’t feel it was worth the long journey. If you have a car, it might be more convenient and worthwhile. But if you're relying on public transport, be prepared for a lengthy trip for what is ultimately a brief visit.

Food and touristic stalls. Every street food palate catered for from Churros to Paella. Ribs, Bao buns, Lebanese pastries, burgers, pizza…etc etc. Cocktails, craft beers cannabis products and chinos…T shirts, stone carvings and LPs and then there’s live music. Sure it can get busy and become a crown scene, but it’s a Hout Bay gem.

After visiting the local distillery thought I’d check out the local markets. Very interesting with some local craft work and unusual souvenirs. Also local and multi cultural food on offer as well as clothing, fruit, cured meats etc. I really loved some of the metal sculptures outside. Good to chat to several of the local stall owners. Great vibe! Most vendors prefer cash but cards and tap pay are available. There are both indoor and outdoor seating areas and tables and the outdoor area has a great view of the mountains. Really worth a visit if you are in the area. Had some great oysters and calamari at Seabar❣️

Stumbled upon this market by accident after a roadtrip and we were all positively surprised by the atmosphere. There was a live band, lots of different food options and souvenirs. Definitely recommend

Lots of interesting shops selling souvenirs, clothes and food! We shared a plate from ribs king and it was absolutely delicious. It also feels like a place that has a good mix of locals and tourists.

Stop 25 on the Hop on hop off bus's blue route especially around lunch time with large variety of food options together with souvenirs and other products - well worth a look.

Great market. Tourist prices on most of the goods but generally very high quality and hand made. As for the food I go straight to the back left corner. Order something with lamb or the falafel. Make sure to ask that they salt the lamb before adding anything else to Im the meal. This lamb is so delicious that I dream of it. Also Tj market has plenty other food options, jewellery, skate supplies and other items for sale. They sometimes have live entertainment.
