I love this town!! Moved here 5 years ago two weeks after a weekend visit and havent looked back! The people, businesses, location, and atmosphere make me happy every day that I made the move, and I am constantly reminded of the resilience of the people who not two decades ago lost every single possesion and tangible memory, but have risen up with gumption and grit and rebulit a beautiful, thriving, and still charming place to live.

Location: Bay St Louis, MS Lodging: Low Commotion via AirBnB — Lodging — This place rang all the bells, y’all!!! Brand new renovations located in the old train depot in the historic area of downtown BSL. Interior decorations were very creative in design —- industrial with a touch of modern just saturates this place with local history. Old RR nailheads made into the doorknobs on the kitchen cabinets. Old RR track lights were made into hanging bedroom lamps. The same print that you would see on an Engineer’s overalls and hat —- was the same printed found on the master bedroom duvet / bedspread. Much thought was put into its decorations. Kudos to the decorator! Rental consist of the bottom unit only. Upper loft is owned by and operated by another business owner. Access to Upper loft is completely separate from the bottom unit. Another business owner is in the process of renovating another loft at the far end of this strip converting it into a little cafe. This little place will be self sustaining before long!! The host is nothing short of a superhost...she is friendly and causal in conversation. She reminds me of a lifelong neighbor. You won’t find a more kind and polite gal within that zip code. The rental unit had a pay it forward program with items such as — liquor at the wet bar, condiments, snacks. Guest are welcome to use what’s in the loft and simply replace it with something of equal value before checking out. The location is in a safe neighborhood and is about 3 blocks from the beach. Don’t let that cause you any hesitation though — you see.... this little unit comes with a street legal golf cart to use during your stay. So although the little place doesn’t have a gulf view —- access to a golf cart trumps that by 110%! Nothing like whipping around town on that bad boy at night. The night wind with mist from the beach feeling cool and soothing against your sun soaked skin. Stopping listen to the live bands along the strip. The golf cart made dinner time parking a breeze. Pulled right on up in the grass and parked along the sidewalk next to the entrance. That beats having to park in the community area and having to walk a block or so to make it to your destination. Sand in the car, wet bathing suits dripping on your cloth seat —- yeah, those problems do not exist when you have golf cart. Speaking from experience, no beach view can beat the freedom you feel from having a golf cart.

This place is great! Where do we begin, all the way from the people to the atmosphere is heavenly, the beaches maybe shallow but the hearts of people are deep!

Where to begin. I'm happy the bay is a thriving cashbox now but on the other hand, I see it as a mecca for yuppies who spend money like it's their last day. I grew up in the bay in the 70's, before the "old Towne" name. I ate at the original Dan B's when it was a quaint little bar. We shopped for clothes in the buildings that now peddle junk to all the tourists and brag about "being inclusive" like it's a badge of honor. The bay is a cool place to hang out but I miss the real Bay St. Louis and the honest, hard working people who lived modestly and quietly but had personalities that outshined any of the lights and noise of the bay today. Just my two cents on it.

Beautiful, nice people all around. It's a small town but very green. Lots of bodies of water, trees. Not for the faint of heart but if you enjoy a nice, small rural town I recommend it. Be aware of humidity.
