Bay Village Tropical Retreat

I can see, as other reviews have said, that this place was once very nice but is past its prime. The pool is gorgeous and the property's layout is interesting - we had a large window facing into the pool area and had to remember not to walk out of the bathroom half-dressed when the blinds were open, lest we come face to face with swimming families :-/ ||The beds were comfortable enough and the bathroom functional, but the decor is bare-bones and the room layout was odd. Sort of an L shape so the air conditioning didn't efficiently reach all parts of the room. The property feels well-used and could benefit from a thorough renovation. I believe there are much nicer places to stay in Cairns for almost the same price.

I should have read reviews first. For $275 plus hit up for an extra $100 bond on arrival 1night for an apartment with a bath that i could not use as there was no hot water, the only reason i even wanted this room was to take a bath, so not happy, reception had no clue. Just a thought maybe suggest another room ???? The tv is a sad little not even smart tv for a 2 bedroom apartment, laughable. Wifi didnt work. I will make sure to let everyone i know not to stay here. Overpriced. Never again. UPDATE. No reply or contact from a manager. SLUMLORDS

Nice quiet accommodation lots of tourist from other countries. Wonderful restaurant and bar ground floor. Parking only 6 spots off street behind gates or wait for street parking mostly hospital staff filled. Very pleasant reception very helpful thank you. The family room little disappointed no sink no microwave lot less than a motel gives especially for the price very noisy facing hospital with helicopter all night and locals yelling walking past.

A well presented accommodation with everything you need. I really liked the front desk hours. They are open till 10.30 pm. The only setback was that the wi fi didn't work.

Do not book Bay Village if you’re looking for a good hotel, if it’s just to spend the night (go ahead). WIFI DOESN’T WORK - GET YOUR OWN DATA PLANS When we advised the same to the person at front desk, his reaction was as if he knew the WIFI doesn’t work and offered us a room change but said cannot guarantee the WIFI as he wouldn’t go room by room to check which side the wifi works. Coming to the FREE BREAKFAST - No Proteins offered (pay extra to have your proteins) ; Watermelon had a foul taste too. Wouldn’t recommend to people coming from Canada US or India.

Do not book to stay at Bay Village. Belongings were stolen from our room. Management could not care less. Avoid this hotel — which apart from being prone to room break ins and theft (just LOOK at the reviews) — is underwhelming, uncomfortable, noisy, and unpleasant. Our room has very loud aircon unit running constantly, and fronted onto the car park. The room was poorly appointed. So even if you want to take the risk of being robbed, don’t expect a comfortable stay. Highly recommend against staying at Bay Village — go elsewhere, there are loads of options!

Everything only just met bare minimum in terms of cleanliness, quality and location. Don’t expect too much. Bathrooms don’t have exhaust fans so super humid and it didn’t help in Cairns

The rooms dont look too good the service is pretty good. The location is really good because it's a walkable distance to cock and bull. But the WiFi is super bad and some times there is an air conditioning for only one room.

The two of us were put into a family room which gave us plenty of space. The bedroom was separate and had nothing else in it but a bed and bedside tables. The TV, kitchen, wardrobe and other two beds were in the living room. The place was clean and serviced each day. There were a couple of maintenance issues. The cold water tap screamed when it was turned on and scared us each time we washed our hands. The disappointing aspect was the smoking on the walkway outside our room and around the pool. The motel is located well and you need to try the Balinese restaurant in the same building. There is off street parking but parking in the street is OK even though it is opposite the hospital.

Nice hotel, very friendly service. Pros: based on other reviews online, seems like they really listen bc many issues seem fixed. Nice AC in room. Good shower pressure. Spacious rooms. There are room only retreat accommodations on one side and apartments across the street. We stayed in room only. Nice room fans and AC although common room w extra small beds can be a little warm. Free sunscreen and bug spray in common area. Small but nice pool. Free pool towels. Lots of lounge chairs outside of the rooms. Laundry facilities with $4 for wash and $4 for dry. $2 to get a packet of detergent from front desk. Although the wash is so short, 25min, that we had to wash twice to get the detergent streaks out of clothes. Nice common areas. Friendly Grocer store and a few smaller restaurants about 5 to 10 min walk from here. 2 blocks from esplanade. 15min taxi ride from airport, about $25 Cons: 20 min brisk walk to the main pier and food places. This can be surprisingly tiring in the heat and humidity. WiFi only free for one device. Other devices are $5 for entire stay (at least 7days). The walls are thin so you can hear others walking around outside but we didn't have any issues. Smoking trays outside of rooms, but didn't have too many issues with smoke getting into our specific room yet. Not many outlets in room, had to use the kitchen outlet for phone charging. Otherwise pretty nice stay! Very relaxing.

Place was very motel looking. Would not recommend staying here. The pictures are very misleading. The beds are super uncomfortable and the walls have dings and paint missing. And our fridge is brown on the outside
