Such a cute little spot! The location is great and the whole vibe was perfect for a relaxed brunch. We sat outside in the sun and it was just what we were after. The staff were all lovely and welcoming, and both the food and coffee were absolutely delicious. Everything was fresh and full of flavour – just a really solid brunch experience from start to finish. Would definitely go back next time we’re in town!

Google
Best place for coffee and breakfast in Byron Bay! Highly recommended to everyone 💘 My favorite dishes are the scrambled eggs and the French toast — absolutely delicious! The staff is super friendly and always make you feel welcome.

Google
This a very popular and busy cafe in Byron bay. So be sure to come prepared to wait in the hustle bustle but once you’ve got a table the food is worth dining in for, I’ve been here multiple times over the years and still love it to this day. It’s a busy place cut some slack to the staff. I’ve never had a bad experience just some long waits. Just recently we had the lamb shoulder which was phenomenal and the Turkish eggs which were a little hard to eat from the bowl but delicious nonetheless 😘😘😘 I loved the espresso spiritz which was tonic water with a shot of espresso and my all time fav is their coconut cold brew. Love the coconut cream it’s light and delicious

Highly recommended! The food was so delicious, Great menu options creative dishes and drinks packed with flavour. Can’t wait to dine here again next time we are in Byron.

Google
A real standout cafe in Byron Bay especially for brunch. I had the avocado on toast. Delicious! Great food, excellent service and a busy, hip vibe- highly recommend 💗

Google
The reviews are definitely spot on. Not to be missed. Hands down the best coffee, toast (& let's not forget that bacon😍) around. When the team know and are passionate with what and how they do things it shows. Thank you especially to Gus and Lily who went the extra mile and really looked after us 🤩. Make sure not to miss this gem 😎

Google
(Good coffee, haven't eaten here yet but it seems amazing from what was coming out and you have to wait just to get a table so must he worth it) I ended up going back a few days later for some food, I am so glad I did it was great had breaky burger it was unreal. The staff were lovely I can see why so many people go here

Google
I really enjoyed my choice of Turkish Eggs. At 1st I was underwhelmed when my food arrived but I had to check myself once I tasted this dish. The flavours were exceptional and so delicious 😋 The iced coconut coffee was a welcome treat & different to the norm. This place is busy and with good reason. Staff are friendly & I highly recommend the wait for a table

Yelp
Ate here 2 of the 3 days we spent in Byron Bay, and the Scramble Special (which I ordered both times) is so far my top meal of the trip! So many delicious flavors blended into one amazing dish. One of our party ordered the granola dish twice, and thought it was equally good. The menu had so many tempting options that it was not an easy decision to order the same thing twice but neither of us have had any regrets!!

Yelp
Place was full at 10am so we ordered coffees and waited for a table, this took 25 min. Once we ordered it took 30 min or more to get our food. The Japanese pancake was unusual but delicious as was the banana bread with hemp seed. They make their own almond milk but it wasn't to my taste. I didn't like their coffee but that's just me.

Yelp
Buzzy breezy restaurant with great music spinning. Worth the wait. Try to get here by 10am to avoid too long of a wait. Must get: coconut cold brew - the best cold brew in Australia. Great with coconut milk and coconut flakes. I ordered the dukka eggs with toast, tomatoes, cheese, poached eggs and dukka (pistachio nut mixture). It was pretty good. The Chardonnay vinegrette is a bit sour for the poached eggs (which can use some salt), and the arugula salad has some yellow leaves. I would recommend trying something else. The hostess and wait staff are fantastic. Self serve tap water: Watch out your head when you are trying to use the water fountain. You need to reach down for the faucet and you probably will hit the shelf where the empty containers lie when you raise your head if you are not careful. The design need to be recalibrated to save a few bumps on the tourists' heads!

Yelp
We have been coming for years and always loved it Now ... not so There is little flexibility and most food contains ferments not good if you can't eat such. asked to have focaccia instead but they wouldn't swap Staff were quite rude around this, also bread is sourdough and only other option is gf , there gf bread is not good My days at bay Leaf are done But great coffee

Yelp
This is the perfect cafe for the right guest. Are you wealthy? Are your politics liberal? Are your food restrictions rigid? Do you want to dine in the presence of the "it" people of Byron Bay? Do you only wear 100% linen while dining out? Then The Bay Leaf is just the place for you! However if you are a shameless meat eating sack of rural Canadian trash, then your heart might just break over their $24 burger that doesn't come with chips/fries, or even a salad or soup. It's.just.burger. For real!

Yelp
My greatest disappointment in eating here was that I was so full I couldn't explore as many other places as I wanted to. But it's hard to imagine anyone else would have beaten this resplendent lentil curry full of interesting vegetables and fruits and the (all too few, but nonetheless filling) toasted bread that came with it. The atmosphere was interesting as well, a very wooden multileveled space. They offered chalk to children to draw on the sidewalk. It certainly struck me as a place I'd want to return to, even though I only had time to try one dish.

Yelp
Very fresh food! Interesting take on the ice coconut coffee.. reasonably fast service. Staff are very hipster and not very friendly but I guess that's part of the experience? We had the avocado on toast with added bacon and the egg scramble with the chilli feta. Both pretty good! Meals come as are - I asked to change the style of the eggs but they didn't allow it? Seems odd. Also can confirm that the below review is true - the avocado was still in its skin when served.

Yelp
A group of 5 of us came here 30 mins prior to closing, nervous to get turned away, but they were happy to seat us! We ordered the falafel and eggs, cheeseburger, and coconut cold brews. Everything came out quickly and cooked well. The falafel and eggs had a beautiful presentation and tasted fresh and full of flavor. The cheeseburger...let me tell you...was the BEST burger I've ever tasted. Ever!! The entire table tried it, and agreed. If I were staying longer in Byron Bay, I would definitely come back for another. Also, the coconut cold brew was so amazing- I've never tasted better coconut coffee. 5 stars for sure!!

Yelp
Great spot for breakfast, it felt like a top Melboume cafe but with a relaxed beachside vibe. Coffee was excellent, food was creative and tasty, service was friendly and efficient... what more could you ask for?

Yelp
I was planning on heading to another cafe but couldn't help but notice the crowd that was overflowing from Bayleaf Cafe. So, of course, I need to see what all the buzz is and try this place out for myself. They have a very interesting coffee and food menu. I tried the turmeric latte after seeing this pop up all over in restaurants and it was "interesting". lol. Definitely an acquired taste, but I'm not going to knock any points off for that. It's a bit of a hipster staff and I'm okay with that. I like connoisseurs and passionate environments. So many great things on their menus to try that I'm looking forward to going back and exploring at another time. :)

Yelp
Looking for a good place to chill...have a good food and some tasty food. This place gets the tick! Service is casual however it works... there is a kind of bohemian feel. I really love the open air design. Coffees were good and the shredded duck special was enjoyable. We will come back and explore the menu further....

Yelp
Probably the best cafe in the Byron Bay area. But because this is no secret, be prepared to wait for a seat - or if you are keen, you can always get take away and just go sit on the beach. So to start the coffee here is good. It is not the best I've ever had, but it is quite good. Specifically, as they have a lot of different types. If you get a chance you have to try to the coconut infused coffee. That's right coconut infused coffee - how can you go wrong? You can't. But even you want just an espresso, the coffee here is good. Now the food. Really good! To the point where I made sure that I would come back here for food. The mushroom toast is amazing! But the best thing is you are able to add pulled pork to any plate. And who doesn't want that. Also, the chillied feta is to die for. So in all cases the food here is fantastic. So, basically make sure you visit this cafe if you are in the area.

Yelp
What a rip-off. A half an avocado still in its skin and a bit a bread for $13. Supposed to come with lemon and sea salt. A dried up piece of lemon and no sea salt. Could have done this at home for $3. Seriously guys, this is rubbish. PS: absolutely nothing like Melbourne

Yelp
Uncovering local spots like Bayleaf Cafe is one of my very favourite things about Yelp. Bayleaf Cafe is off the main drag, so there's no reason we could have stumbled upon it ourselves, but upon reading about the in-house ground coffee, the sunny outdoor seating and the fantastic brekkie, I practically ran straight here. And I wasn't disappointed. The atmosphere is rustic, warm and welcoming and our group practically tripped into this locals favourite. The all-day breakfast menu quicly won our hearts and we devoured in house banana bread, mushrooms wtih chilli and thyme scrambled eggs, and a sausage and eggs dish that involved fried potatoes, poached eggs and pepato. Of course it all came with the locally baked sourdough bread that was almost as good as the dishes themselves. It's worth visiting for the coffee and ambiance alone, but while you're there you might as well enjoy the fantastic all-day breakfast on the sun-drenched outdoor patio.

Yelp
It is definitely busy and had to wait a little to get a table but the service was great. The porridge was delicious and definitely recommend trying the coconut cold brew. also quite expensive but worth a try :)

Yelp
Incredible owners, staff, food, and atmosphere! It's definitely a favourite local spot.

Yelp
This goes down in the books as one of my favorite restaurants ever. The coffee was delicious!!! And beautiful. Pictured was the iced coconut cold brew with house made coconut milk. It tasted like heaven. Then ordered the banana bread which was beautiful and delicious. And I ordered the dukkah poached eggs which had the most amazing cheese and flavor ever. The staff is hilarious and wonderful and kind and let me sample the salted caramel drink which was addictively good. Highly recommend!!!

Yelp
Literally the best burger I've ever had. The sauces were mouth watering, the meat perfect, the bread really made it! I am going back before we leave... it was just so good.
google avatar

Yelp
This place has got the best cafe food in town! We came for a late brekky and had some dukkah poached eggs, mushroom toast and cold drip. All tasted really nice. The environment is great. Must try in when in Byron!

Yelp
Came here after recommended by a friend. We had to wait 20 mins which is always a very good sign . Excellent food and service. ( please look at photos ) We ordered a Breakfast Burrito , Falafel and eggs, Trout salad, Avocado infused with Coriander and feta on sourdough bread .
google avatar

Patty Y.

Yelp
We had breakfast here and the food was pretty good but the food came out slow, but to give them a break it was busy. The wait staff were really nice and the whole vibe was laid back beachy. We had the dukkah poached eggs on toast with lavender honey, tomatoes, toasted pistachios and buffalo mozzarella. I would never have thought this was a winning combination but it was. The lavender wasn't overpowering and the buffalo mozzarella gave it some richness. Yes, the pistachios were tossed on top for crunch. Great balance between savory and sweet. The other dish was chick pea crepe with poached egg and salad. The whole dish was perfectly seasoned so the salad dressing didn't overpower the dish with too much vinegar. The crepe was thicker than the classic crepe but it worked for this breakfast dish. It's more like a thin pancake. This place made me smile because it was hippy dippy (like home) and they weren't afraid to try healthy ingredients in tasty ways. I hope they continue their good work!

Yelp
Another five star place. Super friendly and laid back Byron style. Had only a short time to eat and they brought me a pulled pork bun that was delicious. I loved this place even though everyone stared at me like I was a policeman cos I was in a suit.

Yelp
After an early 5.30am start to catch the absolutely stunning sunrise complete with cumulus clouds, we were driving around Byron Bay with hungry stomachs. It was just 7am, so of course we needed to find something that was open. But being fussy with finding good food and drink, luckily the place I had been eyeing for a few days was open. Situated next to the Owl and Pussycat bar/restaurant is a cafe called Bay Leaf. Maybe it's bad to judge by a book by its cover but when it has good interior design, then I also like to think that they also took good care in their menu and food selection. I simply ordered a latte accompanied by the daily muffin: a pear, chocolate and pecan muffin. Those suckers were staring me right in the eye. How could I resist them? I plopped myself (yes, I was indeed in pajamas) on the seat only to enjoy my sweet brekkie next to the big, open window and take in the day.
google avatar

Larry S.

Yelp
Great staff. Relaxed atmosphere. The chefs don't hide behind walls and prepare meals in plain sight. It gives you a sort of connected feeling. The breakfast burritos are amazing. Seating is a little strange in places, but they do what they can with limited space
google avatar

Anne H.

Yelp
I like the atmosphere here, it's friendly & they play 60's music, Credence, Rolling Stones, Animals. And the aromas from the kitchen smell amazing. All the meals that were brought out looked wonderful & colourful. There is only one smoothie on the menu & it is so good I used my spoon to scoop up the last bits. Lots of choices for all day brekky/lunch. The scrambled eggs with dill, marinated fetta & rocket on sourdough was a delicious taste combination & very filling, no room for a coffee..........next time.
google avatar

Ron B.

Yelp
Great place. Excellent service (even with the wait). Our poached eggs were way overdone but hey, we all have a bad day once in a while. Other than that all food was delicious.
google avatar

Ollie J.

Yelp
Visited Bay Leaf Cafe as it seemed to be highly recommended on Yelp. In the words of Wayne Rooney after losing 2-1 to Iceland... It was "beyond disappointing". Relatively limited menu with an apparent obsession with sourdough bread. Food was average. No-one serving us smiled once. The place also needs a good clean.
google avatar

Court P.

Yelp
Probably my favorite breakfast spot ever. My husband and I were in Byron Bay for the weekend, and went to Bayleaf three days in a row. The coconut cold brew was to die for, and the hot chai was equally incredible. Their presentation is beautiful, and the staff are great. Service was a little slow, but we didn't mind at all. We could have sat in our sun drenched window seat all morning. We ordered almost the whole menu over the course of three days, and weren't disappointed by anything. The huge breakfast burrito was my husband's favorite. Everything was fresh, organic and beautifully prepared. I wish this spot was closer to home because we'd be there every weekend!
google avatar

Zarth Z.

Yelp
This place is popular, and it's easy to see why. Their menu is great, their coffee is delicious. There was a wait when I went in for a table for two, which was understandable. I never mind waiting, and they served us coffee on the steps while we waited. Then they sat a few couples before us, even though we arrived first, which wasn't great. Service took a long time from when we were actually seated. In total we waited a full hour and ten minutes until we had anything to eat, which was a real shame. If it wasn't for the bad service I would have given an extra star. The staff did seem friendly though, and the food was well thoughtout, fresh, and healthy. My partner loved the pulled pork as a side for his eggs, and I enjoyed the poached eggs with greens.

Kirk B.

Yelp
Now this is worth a laugh , went to place because I'm told it has good coffee.. tick but if you want to get fleeced don't go on the weekend ... they charge 5.50 for coffee and when asked "there is a surcharge for the weekends because the staff get paid more " what a joke ! Now I understand Byron is know for being pricey but this is taking the piss ! I'm from the north shore in Sydney and one of the highest rents in the city - our cafes don't factor in surcharges because of the weekend - its factored into our annual costs when running a cafe . And not only this Sydney siders - they will also charge you for using your debit card .
google avatar

Veronica C.

Yelp
I had a delicious breakfast here with some friends. It was busy on the weekend but we were able to get a table without much difficulty. I had a delicious chai and the scramble. Everyone in our group enjoyed everything they had too. I'd definitely come back!

Melody O.

Yelp
Came here with my friends for a nice brunch on our holiday. Expected good food and decent service, but what we received was not that. Instead, we were misinformed about hidden charges when asking for a side of tomato sauce. We were charged $3 for "tomato relish" that tasted like sugar and was not what we asked for. The waitress did not inform us about the additional charge and refused to remove the charge when we kindly reported her about the misinformation. We didn't even eat the side. This experience leaves a bad taste in my mouth, which is unfortunate because the food is quite good. They should look into improving their customer service in order to ensure their customers leave happy. Upset at this situation. Would not recommend.
google avatar

Sara-Fleur S.

Yelp
Excellent place for brunch and breakfast. The food is really fresh and healthy, also they have very exotic recipes. It is also kind of cheap! Will definitely go back!
google avatar

Spencer J.

Yelp
The best coffee and breakfast we had in Byron. The poached eggs over toast and winter scramble with feta and mint were fantastic. And the filter coffees were on point.

Bob S.

Yelp
Food is pretty good, but expensive. The staff was un-accommodating and provided poor service.
google avatar

Mailys P.

Yelp
This place looks great From The outside but we had a very bad expérience and i Will most definitely not ever go back. Sure IT feels like it is the place to be in Byron with all the cool kids. But the service is just appalling. After waiting 25min for a table we were happy to be sitted outside in the sun. The waitress came to take our drinks order a few minutes after that. I went for a cold pressed green juice (8.5$ for 300ml) and my friends were recommended the house brewed coffee (supposedly quicker and cheaper than regular). Coming back 5min later she advises that the food wait is about 40min...great...could not she have said that before we order drinks ?! The juice arrives ... IT is delicious. Coffees arrive...they are disgusting. Like litterally. Well we decided to leave ... And the waitress AT the counter was Just so rude i had never Been treated like that before. Usually i do not pay too much attention but then i was So Shocked i could not let them get away with that. That Being said the menu looked quite interesting and the vibe was fun (cochella style) - let us hope they get them selves nicer waiters

Aleksandra I.

Yelp
Agreed with the comment below. Best ever. We have been living in many places and can not find a better place for breakfast. We miss it a lot!

Yelp
Sitting right in the beautiful Byron Bay sun I enjoyed one of the greatest breakfast moments of my life. Bay Leaf has a great menu, plenty of interesting options plus all the classics. After a morning walk to see the sunrise I obviously deserved the biggest baddest breakfast I could find, but opted for a delicious combo of scrambled eggs, dill & chilli with avo and piles and piles of greens. Greens everywhere. So Much Flavour!! The serving was great and many of my friends polished off their delish meals and were left feeling satisfied. I on the other hand filled up on the prettiest and tastiest iced chocolate I ever did see, so sacrificed a few of those greens. What really stood out about Bay Leaf was the service. WOW! What great staff! Our waitress was so friendly, I just want to put her in my pocket and take her back to Melbourne! And as much as I'd like to think we were getting special treatment, she went out of her way for everyone. It was definitely customer service at its finest. Byron Bay won me over with its sun, sand and breakfast at Bay Leaf!

Terry R.

Yelp
Terrible. Rolled in solo, ordered the waitress' suggestion and waited. And waited. Aaand waited. Saw everyone around me getting food. Finally 45 minutes later the waitress told me their printing machine was broken and the kitchen hadn't received my order. Will never go back.

Yelp
We shouldn't have come here an hour before returning to Melbourne: Sitting out on the terrace of Bayleaf, with a warm breeze, delectable coffee (best in town), funk playing on the soundsystem, blueberry and rosewater smoothie in hand, we started questioning why we didn't stay in Byron for a week. This place just perfectly encapsulates everything that is great about this town, from the super friendly service, to the fabulous healthy meals (hello kale!) and inventive drinks to the angular outdoor/indoor space, Bayleaf is Bryon in a nutshell. This cafe was one of the highlights of our trip for sure.

Yelp
We lunched at Bay Leaf a few days ago and followed today with breakfast. Really very good food: well judged portions and a menu including many daily specials with broad appeal. The staff are welcoming yet unobtrusive. Don't be shy about approaching the counter to place an order: the staff are on hand, but will certainly not hassle you if (like us) you take a little longer to get settled and make up your mind what you want. In the other hand, the owner gave up his table and proactively helped us to move indoors when the sky darkened and a drenching was on the cards: a happy conversation ensued, and a fine morning was had. The clouds parted and the sun came out. How good is that?
google avatar

Catalina L.

Yelp
The spot and atmosphere is excellent. Staff was super friendly and apologetic when I had to wait a long time for breakfast. It was a busy morning which I understand however I had ordered a simple porridge so it didn't make too much sense to have to wait 20 min. Would have given more stars if the porridge wasn't simply crap. How unfortunate.

Ryan P.

Yelp
This is my first review on Yelp and this place warranted a 5 star. Friendly Aussie staff combined with unique dishes and tons of flavor! Coconut coffee is a game changer as well.

Frank W.

Yelp
Best brekky in Byron. Dan is the man - while there may be a short wait, it is definitely worth it. Fresh and amazing produce with lots of delicious options. Friendly servers too! Make this a stop on your trip to Byron, you won't regret it.

Kellee W.

Yelp
Really delicious food!! So fresh and interesting too. Very busy so be prepared to wait for a table but worth it. Coffee is really good too. Thoroughly enjoyed my breakfast and will definitely be back.

Jane M.

Yelp
The Greenie Breakfast was unbelievable - who would've thought eggs on kale & pistachios could taste so good! It's always a good sign when people at the next table are admiring your food then are bragging about how good their choices were.
google avatar

Macarena M.

Yelp
disappointing experience, my coffee was served after breakky (45 min after ordering) the poached eggs where over cooked in a cold plain toast... I don't have anyting good to say
