I visited Bayon Pastry School Café for the first time this morning and it was such a wonderful surprise. This is not only a great café, it is also a humanitarian school that trains underprivileged young Cambodian women in pastry and hospitality. Cambodia is still rebuilding after years of war and the loss of so many skilled mentors, and Bayon is helping create new opportunities for the next generation.
The experience is so polished that it is easy to forget you are in a training café. After reading some reviews, it is clear that a few customers forget the mission and become upset over very small issues, like a student not speaking perfect English. For me, this makes the experience even more meaningful because you can enjoy excellent food while supporting these young women as they learn and grow.
The lattes were excellent and they even offer oat milk, which is rare in Cambodia. The pastries, cheesecake, avocado toast and quiche were all delicious and beautifully made.
The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and you can feel the heart behind the project. I highly recommend visiting Bayon Pastry School Café while you are in Siem Reap.
