Probably a generous rating, but specified a bay view room which upped the rating due to its reasonable privacy. Room was tight, but had everything needed - bed, microwave and fridge and bathroom looked recently renovated - low ceiling, but other than that bathroom was good. Rooms was very clean and bed ok. Being able to park near the room is a bonus. View across bay is pleasant (if not blocked by cars in the car park. At the price point nothing to complaint about.

Staff, location and cleanliness of the room are all 5 stars. Where this room (number 15) lacked is due to an odour of very very strong bleach, what made it worse is that there is no aircon and no ventilation without opening the doors, so that's what we had to do until after 1am, which was freezing. I was so close to sleeping in the car due to obtaining a headache and chest pain from the odour, but didn't feel safe in doing so. The following morning staff were made aware of the smell, they were receiving of the feedback and apologised. Unfortunately for me it means a very tired following day and painful chest to navigate whilst travelling.

The reception was welcoming and friendly; rooms were large and the beds were fabulous and comfortable. The rooms were exceptionally clean, quiet, and we were kindly offered late checkout. A party of four (two couples) had rooms next to each other and everyone slept well. We had sea view rooms on the first floor (lift available if you don't want to take the stairs) and the view over St Helen's harbour was truly stunning. We struck outstanding weather (beautiful Tassie winter sunshine on the shortest day June 2025). The walking path around the bay was flat and views were amazing with the rising sun. We had lunch on arrival at Skippers Fish which was fabulous, a drink in the Bayside restaurant (a $10 voucher per room) and a game of billiards on return after dinner out (we would have been happy to eat there but there was a Thai in a local brewery that we wanted to try). There was also a Bottle-O downstairs. The guy working bar was 'magnificent' (as one of our party observed) as he served everyone expertly and very quickly, delivered meals and cleared tables, and checked the billiard table for us (sometimes the black gets stuck, apparently). We paid $130 per night for each room which seemed exceptionally good value.

Went there for dinner tonight, 4/09/25 it’s our 20th wedding anniversary and we wanted to have a nice dinner out while holidaying up north of our beautiful state. Amazing service, friendly staff and tasty food.

What a great little stay. The staff were friendly, room was clean and spacious, and free parking was a great bonus. It was very quiet and the view of the bay was very lovely. If we are ever in St Helens again, we would definitely stay here.

While we were on our road trip in Tasmania near Fire Bay, we decided to stay at Bayside hotel for the night. The staff was friendly at check-in and let us park the car to bring in the luggage, and showed us the parking afterwards. The highlight for us was the convenience of having plates, cutlery and a microwave in the hotel. We did not have this anywhere in other hotels in Tasmania and it was so thoughtful. Highly recommended!

Went for lunch today, 4 of us, not one meal was ok. Tough steak, just like a piece of Dunlop tyre with tread, uncooked vegetables, very lazy caesar salad. No gluten free gravy. Weren't impressed,

Stayed in a comfortable clean room with views across the water. Dined at the pub where there the menu offered enough choice and the food was tasty and of adequate serving size. All staff interacted with were excellent.

Yelp
Great experience! A full house with enthusiastic customers and staff. Upon entering we asked a couple eating for their recommendations and took their advice. The seafood linguini was delicious and the inexpensive red Cabernet Merlot went very well. I had the salt and pepper calamari with a salad and was quite impressed. It was excellent!. Tender and flavorful. The specials were also very popular. Highly recommended.
