The reception was welcoming and friendly; rooms were large and the beds were fabulous and comfortable. The rooms were exceptionally clean, quiet, and we were kindly offered late checkout. A party of four (two couples) had rooms next to each other and everyone slept well. We had sea view rooms on the first floor (lift available if you don't want to take the stairs) and the view over St Helen's harbour was truly stunning. We struck outstanding weather (beautiful Tassie winter sunshine on the shortest day June 2025). The walking path around the bay was flat and views were amazing with the rising sun. We had lunch on arrival at Skippers Fish which was fabulous, a drink in the Bayside restaurant (a $10 voucher per room) and a game of billiards on return after dinner out (we would have been happy to eat there but there was a Thai in a local brewery that we wanted to try). There was also a Bottle-O downstairs. The guy working bar was 'magnificent' (as one of our party observed) as he served everyone expertly and very quickly, delivered meals and cleared tables, and checked the billiard table for us (sometimes the black gets stuck, apparently). We paid $130 per night for each room which seemed exceptionally good value.
