How to Cheaply & Safely Travel Around South Africa in 2025

"I found Baz Bus to be a convenient, backpacker-focused hop-on/hop-off option that runs the Port Elizabeth to Cape Town route (about 750 km) with an unlimited one-way pass costing 3,700 ZAR and a return pass for 4,800 ZAR; there’s no time limit on the pass so you can stop as often as you like. It’s great for meeting other travelers and for sticking to the popular coastal route and the Garden Route, but it isn’t a huge money saver (fares are higher than trains and some other buses) and is limited by running one set route, dropping only at certain backpacker accommodations, and sometimes requiring extra-cost shuttles to local attractions — so it’s not ideal if you want to go off the beaten path." - Matthew Kepnes

Amazing tour! Everything was perfectly organized and on time. The guide was super fun, full of energy, and always helped with photos. The driver was careful, the bus was comfortable, and the small international group made it even more enjoyable. We saw Cape Point, penguins, and seals – unforgettable day!

We went on this tour yesterday and it was absolutely fantastic. The group was small, only nine people, which made the atmosphere very comfortable. Our guide, Yanga, was incredible — knowledgeable, engaging, and clearly passionate about his work. The driver, Bobby, was just as involved, answering questions and making sure everything ran smoothly. The timing of the trip was perfect: we never felt rushed, but also never felt like we were waiting around unnecessarily. Everything was well organized, allowing us to enjoy every stop. We saw seals, penguins, ostriches, and even baboons — each encounter was memorable, and the guide’s storytelling made it even better. Lunch was arranged at a lovely spot and the food was excellent. What impressed us most was how much both Yanga and Bobby truly love what they do, creating such a positive atmosphere. This was our very first day in Cape Town, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. Highly recommended — one of the best excursions we’ve ever taken!

The CAPE PENINSULA FULL DAY TOUR with Bazbus is a great experience! We also had a fantastic guide (Togeda) and driver (Mawande) and our group of 10 included people from Brasil, Germany, Uganda, Netherlands and France. Great way to meet other travellers from all over the world and of all ages. The itinerary is packed - lots to see but for me a tiny bit too packed. Seal cruise in Hout Bay, Scenic drive along the famous Chapmans Peak Drive, Penguins at Boulders Beach and then Cape Point Lighthouse and Cape of Good Hope. Pickup and Dropoff at the accomodation is included in the price while the seal cruise, entry to penguin colony and to Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve have to be paid separately. Still good value for a 8-9 hour trip in a small group. Thanks Togeda and Mawande!

Unforgettable Day Trip with Natalie from Cape Town to Cape Point. Our day trip from Cape Town to Cape Point with Natalie as Guide was truly unforgettable! From start to finish, she was friendly, knowledgeable, and incredibly passionate about the region. The scenic drive, the breathtaking stops along the way, and her insightful commentary made the entire experience exceptional. Natalie made sure everything ran smoothly and tailored the trip to our interests. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide or a more memorable adventure. Highly recommended! Amazing Day Trip from Cape Town to Cape Point The day trip from Cape Town to Cape Point was absolutely amazing! The views were stunning, and the entire experience was well-organized and memorable. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the area.

We had a great experience with the Bazbus. All the drivers we travelled with were kind, funny and accommodating. We also met super nice travellers along our trip in the bus. Sometimes, the bus may a bit early, but they always text or call you to keep you updated. I will definitely travel again with the Bazbus team next time I’ll come to South Africa. Thank you !

Totally recommend this tour agency in Cape Town. Me and my parents took the Cape of Good Hope tour and it was simply fantastic. Our guide Arnold made things so much better with a lot of info and always showing us happiness and willingness, you can see he loves his job very much. Bobby was an excellent driver and also a very knowledgeable guy. The tour in itself gives us plenty of time to explore the main attractions (Hout Bay, Boulders Beach and Cape of Good Hope) which also included a delicious meal in Simon´s Town (on your own account). Our guide did not press us on to make haste and even helped with photos along the way. Small group of people on the tour, so it was possible to see everything peacefully and make new friends throughout the day.
