Wow what a raw look into Cartagena! It’s smelly it’s dirty it’s loud and I kinda love it. You’ve got haircuts going on while people are gambling, selling everything from shoes to cassava, and food vendors, dance classes and everything else. This is not an experience for everyone and if you’re a woman you’ll be catcalled and stared at so travel at your pre caution.

We had a great experience at this market. Yes it’s dirty, yes you have to be careful with your property, yes it smells, but hey, it’s a market. We had food at Restaurante Dona Ceci, it was delicious. We also had the aphrodisiac shake, and bought a few other things. Good experience.

Lots of cheaper-prices foods, fruits, veggies, and nicknacks. The cleanliness could've been a lot better. There was a lot of gross, dirty water on the floor and flies everywhere. It's also very crowded and really loud.

Easily one of the ugliest, hottest, most crowded, and foul-smelling places I’ve ever visited. It genuinely feels like one of the circles of hell Dante described.

As a tourist I'm glad I visited this market, you'll definitely see a side of Cartagena you won't if you spend all your time in Boca Grande or the Walled City. It's chaotic, noisy, dirty and very entertaining. Every local I spoke with said not to eat there. I didn't even though plenty of people were. Note: I went with a Columbian friend who lives in Cartagena. I would not have visited on my own, especially since my spanish is minimal - you're not in a tourist area where there's a lot of police monitoring things. If you run into a problem (unlikely but possible) you're very much on your own in Columbia.

Amazing experience, but not for everyone. It's an amazing experience, it's gritty, you're surrounded by seemingly thousands of people; noise bustling pushing smells sights and amazing observations. It's not for everyone so to be clear this is not a touristy thing to do you're not going to come here with your friends or with your kids and have an entertaining experience. The traffic is crazy, the noise is over bearing, but it's really an amazing experience if you enjoy that element of travel. Some people have posted about safety. I can tell you I didn't observe a moment of fear or questioning my safety at all. Everyone there is just doing their business and going about their day and very welcoming to the visitors who come there. At the same time you have to be wise to being a visitor in another country with where your wallet is with where your cash is with how you're handling yourself and behaving. Just remain self-aware try to behave in a humble manner, behave, you'll be fine. Lots of stands with fish, yeah it smells but no big deal, and there's another section for the meats that can be something difficult to see if you're not accustomed to it. And then the fruit stands and it goes on forever and there's another section where people are making amazing dishes for lunch that's two or three dollars it's a delicious meal. I hired a guide who knows the market extremely well he was very helpful negotiated some things for me showed me around introduced me to friends of his who's a super experience.

Horrible experience. We were recommended by our taxi driver that this was the best place to eat. When we got there we went to this place with seafood and forgot to ask for the prices first hand. Bad mistake. When we finished eating the girl in the picture ( who is a scammer and a liar) tried to charge us 200 000 pesos which is the equivalent of a very fancy dinner in a very fancy restaurant. We told them no way and we had to discuss back and forth to get them to lower the price to what it really was worth. All in all, I would not recommend coming here unless you remember to ask for prices before hand, plus the place is so dirty, smelly and the food was mediocre.

No entiendo why people are whining....it's a relatively tame market, we always felt completely at ease and only the fresh fish area kinda smelled. We saw a few other gringos. There's a zillion stalls to eat seafood y pollo, fairly reasonably priced especially in comparison to the overpriced walled city. Part of the market is a little indoor mall with jewelry y clothes. Do NOT pay for a guide to take u here.
