This was easily the most budget-luxury hotel we stayed at during our trip. We had private rooms to semi-private bathrooms (2 rooms to a bathroom) as well as a private table to enjoy the lush, lovely social area from above. The beach is mere meters away. The host, a kind German fellow, gave us some wonderful tips on local eats that turned out to be 100% accurate. We should also mention the private parking spot right next to our building (there are 2).
While this was almost perfect, we unfortunately acquired some travellers on our luggage in the form of pervasive ants. We were still smacking them off a couple of days later. This isn't exactly a dig against the hotel as bugs are omnipresent in Costa Rica, but this was a minor problem for a few days. Keep your stuff off the floor and you should be fine.
