Beach House Half Moon Bay (Half Moon Bay, California) 7 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"If you’re not used to it, it’s almost unnerving how easy life can feel in the beach towns along the Northern California coast, perhaps most of all in Half Moon Bay. And needless to say, it only gets easier at the all-suite Beach House Hotel. Set on a bluff between the Pacific and the vast natural playground of the Santa Cruz Mountains, it’s the very picture of low-key coastal leisure, where morning is marked by the unhurried bustle of the fishing harbor below, night by the faint sound of a distant lighthouse, with a series of outdoor pleasures in between." - Tablet Hotels

Beautiful hotel right on the beach. Very clean and well maintained property. Front desk personnel were very helpful. Most of the rooms have balconies and ocean view. My room had living area with couch bed, fully stocked kitchenette with stove, microwave, refrigerator and coffee maker, fire place , sleeping area with king size bed , two TVs and a stereo. There was a makeup/ powder area, dual sinks, tub and shower and toilet. Loved the hot tub, pool and beach access. The continental breakfast was full of pastries no one wanted. I watched as people would walk in, look at the selection and walk out talking nothing more than a drink. I recommend getting rid of the pastries and adding cereal, bacon, eggs and waffles. The juice and coffee selection was excellent. Overall I enjoyed my stay and recommend it to everyone.

I made a reservation for a Partial Ocean View Junior Suite and I was disappointed with the “view.” My view was more of the parking lot than the ocean. The description in the reservation was misleading. Room could’ve been cleaner but wasn't disgusting. Room could also use upgrading for the price I paid. Bed was comfortable. Staff was friendly and check in was easy. Didn’t pay for parking which was nice. A lot of restaurants near which is convenient. San Fran is close enough to drive to but far enough to avoid the busy crowds which was also super convenient. Overall, 3 out of 5.

We love the Beach House in Half Moon Bay. We’ve stayed so many times over the last ten years, it feels like a 2nd home. Staff is always so friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. Well stocked breakfast includes locally sourced baked goods. The sourdough is to die for!

We had an unforgettable stay at the Beach House Hotel, truly one of the most peaceful and memorable family getaways we’ve had. The location is breathtaking, with calming ocean views and the sound of waves creating the perfect backdrop for a relaxing trip.|This visit was especially meaningful for us, and I want to give a very special thank you to Betsy. She went out of her way to help my daughter plan a surprise for us that touched our hearts. She didn’t just assist, she truly cared. Her kindness, warmth, and personal attention made all the difference in making this trip feel extra special for us as parents. Betsy helped turn a simple stay into something we’ll always remember with love and gratitude.|Also, a big thank you to Gina for helping my kid set up the sofa bed. We had no idea how to do it, and she was so sweet and patient.|Our suite was spacious, cozy, and clean with a fireplace and a balcony overlooking the ocean. It was perfect for relaxing as a couple while still being kid-friendly. The beach trail right outside was ideal for peaceful family walks.|From the thoughtful service to the beautiful location to the continental breakfast, everything about this hotel exceeded our expectations. Thank you again to the Beach House team and especially to Betsy and Gina for making our stay so special. We can’t wait to return.

This was our sixth (!) visit to this hotel. We've come as a couple but also with our kids and with the grandparents. It was our escape from COVID. It's not fancy but it was quiet and idyllic.||This visit soured us on this hotel.||The city is dredging the bay right outside the hotel, 300 yards from the guest verandas. We come here to hear the waves crash, the seagulls, and the sea lions. Instead, we were treated to heavy machinery, pistons and revving engines from 7AM to 7PM. (Supposedly also on weekends). There are two barges at work. We couldn't hear ourselves speak. We couldn't nap even with the sliding glass doors closed.||That is not the hotel's fault. But it would have been decent to tell people, during booking, especially those who paid extra for the seaview rooms, that their idyllic scenery is now an industrial zone. That is perhaps a forgivable oversight.||What's not excusable is the passive aggressive response we received at checkout when we suggested a warning might have been appropriate (we did not ask for a refund). The response was: "Some guests complain about the noise but others don't seem to mind". When we proposed that it would be kind to give guests that choice during booking, the curt lady at reception responded that "you should have asked for a quiet room when you booked". In other words, we had only ourselves to blame.||What a shame. If this is how they treat regulars, how do they treat strangers?

Enjoyed one night stay with family (kids ages 14&17). Room provided enough space for us all. Enjoyed the ocean view and fireplace. Breakfast in the morning was delicious. About 10 minute drive to HMB Main Street. Enjoyed a walk on the beach. They have a small pool and a hot tub - we didn’t use these but nice to have available. Overall a great stay.

My husband and I stayed at the Beach House Hotel from 9/5-9/7. We were incredibly disappointed with the dredging that was going on just a short distance from our ocean view balcony room. This dredging began at 6:30am and ended at 7pm EVERYDAY. Yes, 6:30am Saturday and Sunday morning till 7pm. It was an unusually warm weekend, we were unable to enjoy a cool sea breeze, open the windows, sit on the balcony or even listen to music because the dredging was so loud. I am disappointed with this lack of ethics in not disclosing to a guest about the dredging going on directly in front of the ocean view rooms. For $700 a night there are several other choices around Half Moon Bay. I wouldn’t be so angry if the hotel at least disclosed what is going on to offer the guest a choice of getting a quieter room, so at least the guest could make an informed decision. We were celebrating a special occasion and were very much looking forward to a quiet, peaceful and relaxing weekend.

Google
Beautiful hotel and great location with proximity to walking, lovely views, beach, downtown HMB, etc. The main downside, unfortunately, was the very loud generator noise from the sand dredging in the harbor right outside the hotel. The noise was constant from my initial arrival (around 1pm) until 8pm that evening (Friday). It restarted at 6:30am the next morning! Great decor in the room and spacious. Loved the balcony. Breakfast was nice; would have liked more substantial items than mainly pastries/breads but they were very good! I will likely return but only if the generator noise is gone by then!

Yelp
What a treat it was to stay here with my daughter, who flew into San Francisco on a Friday afternoon. It was an easy 35-minute drive from the airport, and we arrived just in time for the 5:30 wine reception and sunset. Check in was easy and fast, staff was informative, professional and friendly. And we met fun people in the lobby by the fireplace during the wine reception. After checking in, we took a short walk along the well-lit beachside walkway and found ourselves at Sam's Chowder House. After a tasty dinner, we strolled back to the hotel, threw on our suits and hotel robes and went to the hot tub, which was open until 11pm! (Such a pleasant surprise given how stingy hotels tend to be with their hot tub hours, often closing by 8pm.) The HUGE hot tub was the perfect temperature, hot but not scalding. After our soak, we went back to our room and lit the ingenious little burlap fire-in-a-sack and enjoyed a blazing fire while I caught up on all my daughter had been up to while away at school. The next morning, we were pleasantly surprised by the cozy fireplace and marina views we found in the breakfast room, which offered a tasty assortment of pastries, along with fruit, freshly squeezed juices, coffee, tea, etc. The many varieties of croissants were especially delicious! They even have trays you can use to take your breakfast back to your room. We made up a small tray with fruit and treats to enjoy later with our leftover seafood from the night before, which made for a tasty lunch we enjoyed by the pool that afternoon after we checked out. They were very kind to give us an extra hour to check out and then gave us a pool key so we could go in and out of the pool area as needed once we turned our room keys in. To top off the day, we took a sunset stroll along the wide-open beach that you can access directly from the pool area. All in all, it was a lovely overnight trip that gave us the special girl time this mama's heart was longing for! My husband and I just booked our return visit to celebrate our anniversary, and this time we are splurging on an ocean view room. Can't wait to go back!! For this trip, I decided not to pay extra for a room with a view because the whole place has lovely views, and we didn't plan to spend many daylight hours in our room. Here are a few things to note about our Standard Queen Suite room: - Good soundproofing. Our room faced the busy road, but we heard no road noise, unless the balcony doors were open. Never head noise from our neighboring rooms. - Clean, spacious room with comfy beds, quality linens and fluffy pillows. - The sofa was a bit too firm for us when closed, so we opened it up into the sofa bed. It was fine for snuggles, but I would not have wanted to sleep on it! Probably for little kids who are not too picky. :) - The shower/tub combo had hot water with decent pressure. Appreciated the two sinks and good counter space. Good hairdryer, not the tiny travel kind. - Big dresser is provided. Closet space was a bit tight due to the safe, extra pillows and ironing board. - The kitchenette is really well equipped with two electric stove burners, a toaster, coffee maker, microwave, and fridge. It even has a kettle for a cozy cup of tea by the fire. (Bring your own tea bags if you're like me an prefer fruity herbals to Earl Grey or tea with flowers in it.) Lots of storage for your own groceries, if you bring them. Dishes, utensils and silverware provided. - Sound system wasn't super intuitive. I will bring my Bluetooth speaker next time. As for the price, I found this place to be such a great value! At $310/night, it ends up being cheaper than a city hotel that charges $250/night because there is no resort fee and no fee to park. Throw in free breakfast, free wine reception, direct beach access, hot tub and heated pool with views for days-you get a lot of bang for your buck!

Yelp
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Beach Hotel in Half Moon Bay from August 4th-6th and found many aspects to appreciate. Nikki at check-in provided excellent service--she was welcoming and efficient. The room offered great amenities, including a refrigerator, microwave, stove, and motorized fans. The continental breakfast was a highlight, with truly excellent cinnamon croissants and fresh-squeezed orange juice--chef's kiss! The jacuzzi overlooking the water was another standout feature. Every morning, we noticed the staff hard at work cleaning, trimming, and organizing, and everyone seemed so happy. I was also impressed by the hotel's thoughtfulness in accommodating accessibility needs. When we requested access through the gate near the RV park so my wife and I could enjoy the ocean path, the front desk immediately assisted--an example of considerate service that makes a real difference. There are, however, some opportunities for improvement. Relocating the television from the dresser to a wall mount would allow both guests to enjoy the ocean view without obstruction. Adding a second USB hub or outlet on the far side of the bed would improve convenience, and an additional ice machine would be helpful--currently, there is only one on the main floor, which may or may not be convenient depending on where your room is located. The primary drawback was the 24/7 dredging noise. While manageable during the day, it was disruptive at night. That said, when we spoke to the manager, she immediately made things right for us--again, a testament to their excellent customer service. In summary, the Beach Hotel combines thoughtful amenities, welcoming staff, and a beautiful location. With just a few minor adjustments, it could provide an exceptional experience. definitely This place is definitely worth the drive from Roseville, CA. We plan to return once the dredging is complete. I give this a place a 4 1/2 stars.

Yelp
We had the nicest weekend at this hotel. Very clean with friendly, great service. Room had so many conveniences including stove, fridge, microwave, coffee machine, wood burning fireplace with bundle of wood provided daily, patio overlooking ocean. Continental breakfast provided daily and wine service in the afternoon. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Great hotel and location for Half Moon Bay and right next to the famous Sam's Chowder House restaurant as well! It's worth spending a little bit more for the ocean view rooms! Suites were quite spacious and the bed was comfortable and the rooms were clean. We also liked the fireplaces and took advantage of that at night and in the morning. Pool and spa are both heated and open fairly late (10 PM and 11 PM respectively). The continental breakfast was top notch as well -- good variety and high quality stuff!

Yelp
Grounds are beautifully maintained. The rooms are nice and spacious with great views of the water. We were in an oceanfront penthouse, room 312. The interior is a tiny bit worn (not bad) but nice layout and has everything you need. We especially enjoyed the wood burning fireplace! The mattress was very comfortable, which is important and can make or break a stay. The continental breakfast was just okay but free so I can't complain. Prices a little steep but overall a wonderful weekend.

Yelp
My adult daughter and I had a wonderful time at The Beach House in August. Our room was very comfortable with a small refrigerator, a microwave, hot top burner and a Keurig. The exceptional breakfasts included: croissants, fresh fruit, muffins, hardboiled eggs, granola, exceptional seed bread and sourdough, plus gluten free bread. In addition to juices and other coffees, they had decaf espresso, (with serious hot chocolate powder to add to coffees), which was a great treat for those of us who are among the rare morning decaf drinkers. Kudos to the chef and kitchen staff. The hotel staff provides excellent service plus the hot tub and pool were lovely. Lastly, downtown Half Moon Bay has great restaurants and stores.

Yelp
I can't imagine a better place to stay in Half Moon Bay! The location can't be beat. It's an easy drive to Main St and an easy walk to the beach/harbor. We were blessed w/ an upgrade to a full ocean view suite - so much more than we needed but so appreciated! The view was great. The separate areas were very nice... the little kitchenette had just about everything you could need. It's not brand spanking new so has the feel of an "established" hotel but wouldn't want it any other way.

Yelp
We booked 7 rooms in total for our party of 20 to celebrate my mom's 80th birthday. I had wanted to secure a reservation at nearby Sam's Chowder house, but they had a requirement to book a room for a large group, plus an expensive per-head cost. Since this wasn't an option, I was going to trust that we go at an 'off' time and hope we wouldn't have a long wait. When I called to ask about the hotel's location to Sam's, Hannah was most helpful in letting me know it was a quick walk away, and made arrangements with Sam's to help ensure we would get seated for our party of 20 upon arrival for an early dinner. It was peace of mind going into this Big Family Occasion where so many people's happiness was riding on a nice big meal together. Hannah made this happen! And Sam's manager was wonderful in accommodating too. We were well-fed and the birthday was a happy, full one.

Yelp
We had an exceptional time at our stay here! The ocean view suite was beautiful. We had a downstairs patio that opened up to the beach. There were cute little bunnies running around outside. The rooms were clean and bed was surprisingly very comfortable for a hotel. There was a huge hot tub that had enough room for plenty of people as well as a heated pool. We also really loved the continental breakfast- they had so many options, fresh pastries, fresh sourdough bread, oatmeal or yogurt with any topping you could imaging, fresh juice, tons of fruit (not just strawberries and melon). Although it was a bit pricey, we loved it and will definitely be back.

Yelp
Disclose to guests the diesel powered dredging machine in front of the ocean view rooms. Disclose that the diesel powered dredging machine runs SEVEN days a week, beginning at 6:30am and ending at 7 or 8pm. You cannot sit on the balcony or open the windows for fresh air because the dredging is so incredibly loud. You cannot hear the TV or listen to music, or enjoy your stay due to the non stop noise from the dredging. It is so disrespectful to the guests that this hotel does not disclose what is happening in front of the ocean view rooms. A complete waste of money, and a complete waste of what should have been a quiet and relaxing beach weekend. The balcony is really in need of renovation and the room could use an update of their furnishings. Upon check out staff did not even ask if everything was okay or if we liked our stay. Many choices for places to stay I. HMB, we will try somewhere else in the future.

Yelp
We chose to stay at the Beach House Hotel for my birthday getaway. My husband and I have been going to HMB for years and usually just come for the day to spend time with family who RV at Pilliar Point. We got a garden view room but it was facing the highway, so we tested our luck to see if we could get a different room with a slightly better view. The front desk employee was so sweet and showed us two different rooms. One was across the hall and had a partial view of the ocean and Sam's chowder house. We chose that one because it was a corner room and we had our infant son with us. The view was great, the hotel was clean and had a lot of amenities. I loved the set up of the room as well. It was open, spacious and bright. I was a big fan of the fireplace. The hotel provides a bag that you can light on fire, and they I'll replace it for $7 if you want an extra for the day or they replace it daily for free. The hotel also provided a wine happy hour from 5:30-6:30 PM. Can't go wrong with that! The location is walking distance from a lot of restaurants and parking was easy if you wanted to take a drive to check out other further away restaurants.

Jaymee N.

Yelp
It's a beautiful location. We will return. I love the ocean view and having the little fire in the fireplace.

Yelp
Over the last 20 years we have stayed at the Beach House half a dozen times. Like a fine wine it ages well. We had the ocean front suite this time and all the amenities were spot on. Split level bedroom area from a sitting room with fireplace. Fridge, micro, dishes, silverware, robes, nice table to eat at plus a desk. You could live in this room quite comfortably and the views are fantastic. The fog rolled in so no Sunset pics but we sat out on the deck-2 decks by the way! My only complaint-and it's a because I'm vertically challenged-the bed is waaay to high. I have to really work at it and I'm always afraid if I get too close to the edge There is the Ritz, There is the Oceania, There are other places to stay but the Beach House has our heart and we will always come back when we want a ocean getaway.

Yelp
Wonder getaway close to SFO and ten Bah Area. Popular for office off-sites a wonderful retreat for couples and families looking for a short break close to home. Though tbe hotel doesn't have a restaurant of its own there are a number of nice restaurants within walking distance and places that deliver. Those who love the sea - can try surfing too. The view from each room is breathtaking and calming by itself/

Yelp
Found this hotel while looking for an ocean facing spot to celebrate my birthday. Impressed by their friend staff, property cleanliness and upkeep and ocean facing room. Their on the house breakfast is pretty nice with lot of options and love the fact they let you take breakfast to the room to enjoy in the patio. They also offer crib which was a great plus for us.

Yelp
Be advised if renting Aug-Oct 2025. it is 830PM and harbor dredging is still going on. It is loud!! and with no AC, closing the water facing windows isn't an option. Forget about hearing the surf or the birds. Instead you'll be able to enjoy the sounds of diesel engines nonstop. We have stayed here many times over the last few years and the property is beautiful but would definitely booked elsewhere if we had known.

Yelp
Sunset to sunrise views from our room! They have a hot tub and heated pool where my bf, his brother and I definitely took advantage of!

Yelp
Here for our 4th year anniversary and had a great experience. Pros: The Ocean View room has a cozy and rustic charm. Certainly can tell that management tries to upkeep the room as it's clean and has a hint of sandalwood scent to add to the whole beach house vibes. We also had a kitchenette, patio, sofa, and fireplace. My favorite part was the fireplace as they have a bag of wood and matches ready for use. We dimmed the lights and roasted some marshmallows by the fireplace. The beautiful beachfront and fireplace really sets the mood. The hotel conveniently located next to Sam's Chowder so we took a 10 minute stroll along the scenic beach to Sam's to enjoy a late lunch. Afterwards, we returned to the hotel and watched the beautiful gradient sunset in the jacuzzi. On Friday nights they have wine night-- which according to pictures they use to have small bites, but our visit only had complimentary wine (probably due to the pandemic). Cons: I would say that it definitely takes a little bit of time to adjust to the charm of this place; It's not your average upscale modern hotel. The layout of the hotel room is narrow and the amenities felt like it needed maintenance. Pool area is small and the patio feels empty. They also charge for toothbrush. I would say concierge is very cordial, but not exceptional. I had slightly high expectations that they would comp their guests for a 4-year anniversary. Last year, we booked with another hotel in Chicago and they sent strawberry dipped chocolates, 2 glasses of champagne, and a cute little card, which really set the bar for us. Prices are steep for a hotel that isn't in peak season. Price: $$$ Hotel amenities: 6/10 Room Amenities: 7/10 Parking: 10/10 Convenience: 10/10 Customer service: 8/10

Yelp
I booked a ground-floor junior suite to celebrate my best friend's birthday, hoping to bring us back to when we were young and planned to live and work by the sea. While that plan didn't last, our friendship did. Thanks to friendly, accommodating Beach House staff, a well-stocked and delicious free breakfast buffet, and a clean and serene room with ocean views, we had a memorable celebration. Probably the best way to recommend this experience is to say that we'll return again next year!

Yelp
Hubby surprised me with a weekend getaway and of course I was nervous since I usually do the reservations for our stay. I was very impressed with his choice to stay at Beach Hotel. We love Half Moon Bay, and never have stayed over night and we for sure will be returning. This place is clean clean! The rooms a good size, he reserved a penthouse that had private balcony with ocean view. The room had a huge fireplace, wood provided and we loved sitting by the fire. The bed was VERY comfortable, had to check the brand it felt so nice to sleep there. The rooms are equipped with everything you would need, we had a kitchenette, microwave, fridge kitchen supplies. I wish we stayed more than one night. The pool is heated, also a hot tub. The staff very nice. The breakfast was OK, nothing special but complimentary so anything was good . They did not allow early check in , they called us at exactly 4pm that our room was ready. It's kind of pricey, so you'll be paying for something nice which I think you'll get your moneys worth.

Shamalah S.

Yelp
Service is good, rooms are clean. Fireplace in room is nice. Continental breakfast is perfect. Parking is good. People are friendly. The location is great. There is a pool and jacuzzi but it's often occupied by kids, so for me not cool. Another drawback is that all of the rooms only have one king bed. There is a sofa-bed in each room, but if sleeping on it for more than one night, it's not comfortable. I don't understand the lack of variety in the number of full beds in this establishment, but that was a big drawback. I thought I could tough it out on a sofa-bed for 4 nights but I was wrong. I ended up with a sore back! And so because of this bed situation, I count it as a major negative because if you don't have good sleep, it will ruin your whole vacation. The cost is more than $550 a night so... hmmmmm....please consider carefully before booking your stay.

Yelp
We chose the Beach House Hotel for our teams two-day offsite this summer, and they did not disappoint! Chef Peter and his team served amazing food for breakfast and lunch, they were professional, polite and very accommodating with extreme attention to detail. I want to also give a shout out to Lorrie and Angie for ensuring that everything went off seamlessly! I highly recommend this hotel for work events, family vacations or just a weekend away for a very relaxing and beautiful experience. it's right at the ocean door, you can't ask for more than that!

Yelp
We stayed over one night in our way from St. Helena down to Monterey and Carmel. We thought the hotel was lovely from lobby to the spacious rooms. The rooms and hotel smelled like fabric softener, so fresh. There was wood in our fireplace we were encouraged to use, but we didn't end up doing it. We had a nice view of the bay from our deck. There were many restaurants and shops within walking area from the beach walkway. Hotel staff extremely friendly and the front desk was staffed 24/7. They had a SUPER continental breakfast that came with the room. Juice and coffee, cold and hot cereals, fresh fruit and a large array of pastries. Different croissants, banana bread, scones, cinnamon rolls, and bagels. We were surprised at the offerings. If you need a stop along the way between larger cities, this is a great place. The 1 highway drive from here to Monterey also beautiful with many places to stop and view and photograph.

Yelp
Highway noise cant keep any fresh air coming in., no ocean view as expected my bad did not look closely at my confirmation after making my reservation feeling like it was a bait and switch and i could " upgrade" have never been more disappointed had I known my view wold be noisy highway we could have camped down the road. Oceano far nicer and lesson learned . Our room smells like a campfire and we're not burning a thing again if we wanted to camp., can't wait to leave

Yelp
We were back the second time since last year and this place still amazed me . Our ocean front room was super clean and very well decorated. The staff was so friendly. Don't forget to have complimentary breakfast with the ocean view.

Yelp
We only stayed one night but were really pleasantly surprised by the hotel. Our room had a partial sea view with a big bed, sofa bed, kitchenette and fireplace. A fire was a great way to end the evening! They provide l'Occitane toiletries which is a nice touch. There is also a small pool and jacuzzi so don't forget your swimsuit. A continental breakfast was included which we were expecting to just be croissants and coffee. But it includes bagels, muffins, pastries, yogurts and fruit. On a sunny morning, you can sit outside and have breakfast while overlooking the bay. It's lovely!

Yelp
Friendly staff, great hotel!! Staff was friendly upon check in and very welcoming. Wine on the patio was great, with a staff person who was kind, happy, and refreshingly positive. Room was a great size and clean. Hotel is conveniently located for what we were visiting for, the harbor and Sam's Chowder House. It was nice to be able to walk to Sam's next door along the trail. We unfortunately had to leave a day early, due to my sister getting hives and not feeling well to the point of us needing to take her to the hospital. The staff person when I checked out was extremely accommodating and expressed genuine concern, including giving her well wishes for a speedy recovery. Will definitely be returning!

Cheryl K.

Yelp
The Hotel itself, very nice. Rooms are clean, comes with a nice sitting area the beds are comfy, and there is a great view of the ocean. However, it is right next to highway 1 and you can't escape the noise of the traffic. They don't have A/C so to get fresh air we opened up the sliding door. The traffic drowned out the TV. But even with the door closed, we could hear the traffic. It made it hard to sleep. Other odd things.....check in is at 4 pm instead of the usual 3. We came early and they said they would text us when the room was ready. No text, spent the last half hour before 4 pm waiting in the lobby then, at 4, I went up to check in. I would rather have an earlier check out than a later check-in. We really wanted to start our weekend as soon as possible. Also, the happy hour is from 5:30 to 6:30. A little too late to be convenient. And breakfast starts at 7:30 am. That is a little too late too. And lastly, for over $500 a night....not really a good deal.

Yelp
The Beach House is an excellent place to stay in Half Moon Bay. The service on this trip exceeded all expectations! In particular, Hannah at the front desk made our trip! She was courteous, helpful, and conscientious. Thanks Hannah!

Yelp
My family and I have stayed here a few times already. It's still an awesome place, with nice amenities, close to the water/beach area (which my kids love), and offers a nice fireplace that you can enjoy in your own room. We also love how quiet it is throughout the hotel. There's a nice walkway by the hotel/beach area where you can enjoy a nice morning or afternoon stroll. We always enjoy this as a family, along with playing by the water. Our stays at this hotel is always memorable and enjoyable.

Yelp
Road noise is significant and constant from non-ocean facing rooms. No AC so stay away if it is hot. Rooms are very comfortable and continental breakfast among the best I've had. Pool is super tiny. Easy access to beaches and walking trail. Try hard to get ocean front room, others so disappointing.

Yelp
Absolutely enjoyed our stay here! Its like booking a whole studio. Their approach to quarantine is very good. Masks are required, our room keys were ready on a table, we just had to check in at the front desk and pick them up (without anyone physically handing them to us). Pool and jacuzzi is by registration only, we had the whole pool and jacuzzi just for us, but you get only 30 minutes in each. They provide towels as well, but you need to get them at the front desk. They also have access to the beach from the hotel, which is nice, and great eating places nearby. Room was very clean, spacious, and comfortable. All silverware, plates, and cups were sealed. They also have a sink, toaster, microwave, coffeemaker, cattle, stove, and refrigerator in the room. As well as a balcony and fireplace (a bag of firewood is complimentary, if you need more you can purchasethere). They provided a sealed bag with all needed information, matches, hand sanitizer, and recommendations. In the bathroom, they provided shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion, rinsing cups, q-tips, shoe cleaner, makeup remover wipes, cotton balls, and shower cap. I have never seen a hotel provide so many things. They accommodated our breakfast and brought it earlier than their scheduled time. Everything is NOT hand-in-hand service. Overall I think they did a phenomenal job, especially during the pandemic.

Yelp
This place is very nice but for the price and no AC I don't think it's worth it that's why I'm giving 4 instead of 5 HOWEVER, the rooms are CLEAN, everything smells AMAZING, we got the penthouse ocean view and it was BEAUTIFUL! I definitely recommend this place as a mini getaway, we went on a dull day but the weather was not windy and it wasn't humid so it was PERFECT, the hot tub closes at 10 but it was so nice because we were the only ones there the pool is semi small so if you can get there before everyone definitely go! They had free wine tasting and that was OK I'm not a big fan of dry wine and sour. Be SPECIFIC if you want an OCEAN VIEW. The beds are all one sized but there are pull out couches they aren't that comfortable but it's definitely temporary place to sleep while there

Yelp
Stayed in the Hermosa location and this location within two weeks of each other this month so everything is still fresh on my mind. The view cannot be beat. The weather was beautiful during the day and chilly(for LA standards) at night. We stayed on the 3rd floor with the view of the harbor. Pros: - The room we had in this location was much larger compared to Hermosa's location. - Free parking included - Friendly staff -nice Cons: - Short stay, we only stayed a night - Pool area adjacent to the deck seemed small - Continental breakfast was a bit limited - Both vanity sinks had a slow drain - We had a few spider friends who welcomed us when we got into the room

Yelp
This hotel is in a great location and has very nice amenities. My family has stayed here many times over the years and has had nothing but positive experiences. This time, however, there were some issues. The primary issue was a woman wandering in to one of our hotel rooms while it was being cleaned to "look at the view from our balcony," even though it was very apparent the room was occupied. Not only is that unacceptable from a security standpoint, it's unbelievably creepy to have random people wander into your room-especially once we found out the woman wasn't even a hotel guest! Further, the front desk did not call the police (to our knowledge) to report the behavior, did not come up to the room to check for stolen goods or anything amiss, and did not seem to view the matter as unacceptable. There was a lack of urgency or care which we frankly found inexcusable, particularly as far as security goes. The other issue we encountered were local teenagers using the pool and hot tub. Ordinarily this wouldn't be too bad; however, these kids were running, splashing, cursing, yelling, etc. on multiple occasions, particularly in the evening hours. While kids will be kids, it does negatively impact the experience for guests who want to relax while using the amenities we're paying for, particularly at night after a long day. This hotel used to be one of our favorites, but there are some areas - namely, security - that are lacking and should be updated. The views and location can't be beat, but I can't say wholeheartedly that we'll be back anytime soon.

Yelp
This was a really nice hotel. It was right on the water and walking distance to restaurants and the marina. The rooms were really big and they had a kitchenette and a fireplace. They even served a continental breakfast and they dropped it off at your room. I would definitely recommend this hotel. The only cons were the tv stations, they do not have satellite so there wasn't much to watch. Also the hotel is on a busy street where there are always a line of cars driving by, however the hotel was quiet and you couldn't hear them.

Yelp
Very clean, friendly staff, hot tub is hot, not warm, pool was heated, room was very clean, mini kitchenette with a 2 electric burner stove top and kettle pot, toaster, microwave, mini fridge, safe, dishware. However no pots/pans. Great location right on the beach. Would definitely come back again.

Yelp
My home away from home in my hometown :) I grew up in Half Moon Bay and this place being built was quite controversial. People in small towns always want to keep them exactly the same. However, as years have passed it has truly become a local gem. I don't live in HMB anymore, but my mom still does and she doesn't have room in her tiny Studio for me to sleep when I visit. This is the only place I'll ever stay when I come. The beds are incredibly comfortable, the staff is friendly, the rooms are always spotless and beautiful- with great amenities! My favorite thing is the real fireplace. I highly recommend choosing a room with an ocean view if you can afford a little extra, but anywhere you end up in this hotel is a treat! Enjoy!

Yelp
This is an update because, I finally had the chance to stay here. It is very expensive $485 for Saturday night... Ok, it is what it is... The location is really super great! The check in process was painless - though see earlier review, which I'm chalking up to sh*t happens - though I still think an accommodation should have been made. Room: Very nice, but as other reviewers have pointed out, no AC.. didn't matter on our stay as it was overcast all day, but I can see if you get sun in the afternoon (it does happen even in HMB) it can be a bit stuffy... The bed was comfortable as were the pillows. Location: Perfect and steps from the California coast trail and only a 15 minute walk to town for dinner. Can get a bit hard to get in/out of to Hwy 1 when busy, but doable. Amenities: Well IMHO they fall short here... I really would have appreciated some real creamer for the coffee in the AM and not powdered (they have a refrigerator and much lesser hotels do accommodate this!)... they had 3 single shot coffee (so the 2 of us could not have 2 cups each in the AM)... No water in the room even for purchase and the tap water kinda sucked... Bath towels while adequate, not as one would expect at this price point... Outdoor patio is really nice overlooking the water. Smallish pool and hot tub also very nice. Given the price, this is not a place I would come to regularly, however, on occasion it's a great option.

Yelp
Enjoyed two nights in an Oceanview suite. Loved the room and the view. Everyone at the hotel was very friendly. There was a managers wine reception Saturday and Sunday night! There was a nice path behind the hotel where my daughters rode their scooters (it's was about a half mile to Half Moon Brewery and shops). Look forward to returning!

Yelp
Stayed here for our 1st time & enjoyed our stay very much. When going down to the beach, don't forget to have room keys, you'll need it to access gate entrance! Lol speaking from experience. If you split from your party that's holding the key, you'll get locked out. We loved that the room had a kitchenette, if you plan to cook, you'll need to pack at least 1 pan/pot for that. Everything else is provided, clean & sealed. Wine glasses provided were very thoughtful. Staff was very friendly.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed here for appx 5 nights to celebrate our 20th anniversary . Pros-They hotel staff was friendly and helpful. The room was very serene with the ocean view balcony. The room had a small kitchenette with appliances, plates , cups and utensils. The fire place was a very nice touch to set the ambience. Cons-The sheets do not get change on a daily basis unless you request it. The same for the towels. Unfortunately on our last night there a had a little visit by 2 critters. A spider crawling on the couch and what appeared to be a roach in the bathroom... unfortunately the spider got away but I manage to get the roach. Other than that the pest issue the place was very nice. Just seems to need a little pest control. See pics attached.

Yelp
The best and safest California retreat from Covid. This is not hyperbole. I've been coming to the Beach House since my honeymoon over 20 years ago and the view and sounds of the sea from both bedroom and living room never cease to amaze me. I must have taken 100 sunset pictures from the balcony over the years and each one is spectacular and unique. As an author, I have written many an article or book chapter at that lovely desk, staring out at the ever-shifting water. Winter seems to be summer in Half Moon Bay and this hotel and environs are fabulous all year round. With the rain outside, cozy up by a fire in the hearth from the burlap bundles of sustainable kindling assembled by differently-abled folks; peek out your balcony at some of the best surf in California to see how the waves are and what the tide and wind conditions are, hop down there through the private stairs and over to the beach, then rinse off your wetsuit in the foot shower and warm up in the 90 degree pool or relax your sore muscles in the jacuzzi. Just make a reservation for each in the morning and thanks to the quarantine your family can enjoy the view of the surf while luxuriating in the water all by yourselves. In the Summer, walk over to the pier for some fresh crab, or get some of California's finest seafood at the Half Moon Bay Brewery or the Miramar all an inspirational walk away. All of the above is possible during the most severe quarantine. As restrictions open up, you can add lazing at Sam's patio next door by the fire pits and heal lamps, overlooking the bay--a takeout must go to during Covid during your stay at the Beach House. Or you can hole up without ever leaving, since all the rooms are so spacious with their two levels. They are designed for each of their owners to live in for up to 29 days, so they have comfortable convertible large sofa beds, cabinets and a kitchenette complete with huge mini fridge, stove top, tea kettle, sanitized and wrapped dishes and silverware, counter and bar sink. The attractive staff, like Niki, Angie, Hannah, Betsy, Ana and Lilly, some of whom have been there for two decades, will bend over backward to spoil you and make you feel like you are their favorite guest. Yet the fact that they have been there so long speaks well of the management and the entire enterprise. What most impressed me was how The Beach House cares for the cleaning staff who have also been there for twenty years. Once we left, our room was untouched until the next day when a HEPA filter capable of cleaning 550 square feet in a half hour was run for 40 minutes before Blanca, Neyda, Jerry and others were allowed to enter. "They are considered family," explained Manager Dana. With all the windows and doors easily open to the salt air in the unit, staff and guests masked and hallways with windows and open plan over the lobby, the hotel itself feels very low risk. Taking precautions here is so effortless and seamless, it is difficult to remember there is actually a pandemic outside. Can't wait to return. Enjoy!

Yelp
I'm giving a one because I can't give a -100. This place is so disappointing. The TV doesn't work the bathroom is disgusting. Amenities are nowhere near what was promised. The people are very nice and apologetic for all of the things that do not work. but they were unable to do anything to fix or change anything. Extremely disappointed do not come here ever

Yelp
Great views, friendly staff, above average complimentary continental breakfast, very nice rooms, great location; especially because Sam's Chowder is right next door. Sufficient free parking too. If you want to walk around the main street in Half Moon Bay, it is about a 5 minute or less drive.

Yelp
Have stayed here many times over the years. It is generally nice and clean and quiet. They often host groups for meetings. It is the antithesis of the Ritz at the other end of town. Parking and the jacuzzi can be a problem with interlopers pretending to stay there. The lighthouse/foghorn on the bay can bother some.

Yelp
This is a cute little place. I didn't take a photo of the entry bec it's a living room with huge fireplace and it constantly had people in it-too small to not come across as rude photographing it ;-) The staff was friendly and thorough regarding the heated pool, jacuzzi, gym, beach access, continental breakfast, and Sam's restaurant next door. It is super cute and has a lot to offer and we would stay again, but it is older decor.
