From the road Beach Wadiya looks run down, but cross the train tracks, and you a get warm and friendly welcome from the staff. We just wanted to grab a sunbed and have a few drinks, beers were cold, lime juice fresh and sweet and the view is to die for. We didn't eat this time but the food that came out from the kitchen looked and smelt lovely and no one was complaining. The beach was clean and tidy which was a bonus.

A very nice seafood restaurant. You can sit outside on the beach in a nice atmosphere. The food is fresh made. It very delicious ☺️. The service is very good and can give some recommendations 🙂, like grilled garlic prawns and deviled fish. In one week we have been twice at this place. We will come again. On 03. January 2025, after 3 years we came back to this place. We enjoyed the food. The food was delicious again. There is a big "but". In the restaurant was so many plastic and other garbage laying on the sand. An next to the fence at the beach was so many garbage. It was not smelling so good. In Facebook you showed how you cleaned up your restaurant and beach. Please keep your restaurant and your beach nice and clean. This will help you to get mir foreigners as guests.

From the outside, the restaurant doesn't look like much, but choose a table on the beach and enjoy a nice chilled Lion lager while enjoying the cool sea breeze. The waiters will bring out the days catch still fresh on a platter for you to choose and decide how you want it cooked. The food was fresh and delicious and I highly recommend you try this restaurant if you are in town.

I had been to the Beach Wadiya decades ago. Always one of my favorite stops when I am in Colombo. The place has character. For one, you have to cross train tracks (there is a path) to get to the entrance. It is very basic, hardly any decor, but the tables and chairs are on beach sand. The areas are covered. And you have a direct view of the beautiful ocean. I came here with a plan, and that was to eat lobster. They have only a few variations and I chose the grilled preparation (which they said was prepared over a flame) with melted butter. I chose a 650g lobster (price is 2k rupees per 100g). When the dish arrived at my table, I was immediately disappointed. Both the top (meat) and the bottom (shell) part had no signs of being subjected to a flame (no charring anywhere). It came out with a dry look. I poured butter on it, let it soak for a while and then consumed it. It kept bothering me, so I addressed it with the server and told him that it was clearly the boiled preparation. He admitted that it was boiled but put on the fire after that. I told him that was not accurate. For dessert I had the fruit salad with ice cream.

Hopeless! I visited this restaurant out of nostalgia, remembering how it used to be a top-notch place where people had to wait in line to get a table. Unfortunately, it has drastically declined. The service is terrible, the cleanliness is nonexistent, and I even saw rats running around. There is no longer beach access; instead, there's a large fence with a garbage collection area full of plastic bottles next to it. The hotel staff seems clueless about cleaning, and the waiters lack basic hospitality skills. The only competent and presentable waiter I encountered was Shamika. It's also disorganized, as there are no table assignments for waiters—I was served by four different people. They don’t even offer 500 ml water bottles. The kitchen staff clearly doesn’t know how to prepare basic dishes. Attached is a photo of my devilled dish, which looks like random vegetables dumped in tomato sauce.

Super nice place located on the beach on the rim of the ocean. The tables are standing on the sand of the beach which adds to the genuine feeling of this old place that was washed away during the tsunami in 2004 and later rebuilt. The food was excellent, the best fish I ever had (Mullet) but also cuttlefish, prawns and lobster. They had a lovely kind of varm sallad with vegetables and red onion with a salty (soya?) taste that we ate. Have never eaten anything like it in Europe but it's a must buy if you visit this place! Be careful about following their rice recommendations though as they are based on the locals and are enormous portions. We ordered half of what they recommended and still only ate half of that so we got a big doggy bag with rice to bring back home. When you eat you can hear the waves coming in, in the background a very soothing sound. I would definitely go here again when I'm in Colombo 🙂
