How to Backpack the Yasawa Islands

"I found Beachcomber, the famous party island, to be overrated and a waste of time — everything costs about double there." - Matthew Kepnes

I’ve been here several times over the past 5 years when in the area and needed to buy souvenirs, but on my most recent visit I noticed they were selling pro-Trump t-shirts. That would be frustrating enough except the shirts they were selling were more than just his typical slogans - they actually had quite mean and rude statements that were hateful toward other groups of people. I’d rather support businesses that promote kindness and empathy. I’m not sure why this business even thinks they should sell political (and rude/hateful rhetoric at that!) clothing. Extremely disappointed.

Hey... My brother-in-law came down with my husband to Seward. My father-in-law is from Tennessee. He was looking for souvenirs. It came across beachcombers souvenirs shop. The lady and man in the shop was very helpful very nice. My father-in-law found a light up thing in that goes in the window and he loved it. When you got back to my house he realized he needed more I called up and talk to the owners and asked if they could help me. They were very willing to help.i described what i needed and they said they would call me back. They did. Helped get the souvenirs out to me . Excatly what we wanted. What amazing people and shoo this is. Thank you for all the help. Please look thrm up and see what they have. Go see them. It will be worth it. I promise.

They have a huge selection of all types of gift ideas ! 2nd Review Still love this store!!! Nice selection of t-shirts, sweatshirts and hats as well as beautiful beach gifts!!! Very helpful staff !!! 1st review I love the Beachcomber ! I bought my favorite one year old four books for Christmas. The sales person was very helpful. They have a great t-shirt selection as well as beachy gifts 🎁 ....

The employees were so kind and helpful! They have a variety of clothes and cute little souvenirs to treasure. Whenever I come to Deerfield Beach, I always make sure to stop here! Best shop on the block!

It was fun place to shopping your gift and all kids of clothes. There is great vacation look and survivor. It's pretty good price and design. It's been doing business for 50 years . It's cozy and fun place

Google
NICE store with great variety of items to choose from. Prices are reasonable. When I walked in I gave the young male employee a cheery good morning and I received a bland hi. But once he noticed I was picking up multiple items he became a bit more friendly. I didn't take it personal. People are hilarious lol. I loved the items in this store. I would have purchased more items but I had limited carrying space. I will definitely come back when in the area.

Very helpful and friendly staff. A pretty good selection of merchandise but a little scarce on some items. A fitting room to try on any clothing before purchasing.

Google
Nice place. Nice people. Very helpful to find exactly what you want. Pay to park. Prices were decent for a tourist trap.

Yelp
While visiting Deerfield Beach, I decided to stop into The Beachcomber to wander around for a couple souvenirs. I found some really cute sparkly starfish shaped earrings that I bought three pairs of. One for me, my sister and my boyfriend's sister. I just knew they would love them too. They were inexpensive and very cute. I also bought some dried starfish and a beautiful purple shell to take back home. I love my little gifts for my home and family. As for the only other review for this place, by a non-customer. You shouldn't give them a 1 star, because they couldn't recognize that YOUR car was the one illegally parked and towed, even if you are a neighbor.

Yelp
Had a pleasant visit. Was in the area on a business trip and stopped by here to get my kids some travel souvenirs. An older woman was present, she mightve been a manager or owner. But anywho, she was quite friendly and helpful. Her employee made an awesome recommendation on a bag of goodies, which my friends seemed to enjoy. Everything is priced adequately, and found some very nice gifts.

Yelp
While I love to visit Deerfield Beach I was very stunned to see the very limited reduced stock of souvenirs here. I was in Johns Pass last time I was in Florida and was very impressed with their stock and prices... however, that wasn't a Beachcomber location that's why. This location has very overpriced items for sale. Disappointing visit to your gift store as you really are limited and for what you do have is like I said way over priced. Though you can get a T-shirt for 10.00 which is great if you're looking for a T-shirt

Yelp
What a cool selection of everything, the very/very older nice sales lady related it has been family owned for over 40 years. She was the best and made us welcome. Clothes, gifts, beach things, accessories, etc etc etc.

Yelp
The people that run this place are very rude. Go to Wings or better yet, Amazon. It looks like they carry mostly cheap China stuff anyway

Yelp
One of the nicer souvenir shops in Deerfield Beach. They might be a bit more expensive than Wings but their sales staff is a lot more friendly and helpful. It seems that the quality of their t-shirts and sweatshirts is better as well.

Yelp
Older lady, who I believe to be the owner, was rude, she was condescending and all around disrespectful in her tone and mannerisms.

Yelp
I have completed complaints to both the BBB and the Florida Attorney General office. I would like to say: we, as human beings, inherently know the difference between right and wrong at the age of 5. The arrogance of a retail establishment saying to one of it's valued customers - tough luck that you purchased a faulty product in our store. It says plain as day on my cash receipt "No returns/exchanges without receipt". Yet, when I tried to return a pair of sandals that fell apart only 2 days after purchasing WITH THE RECEIPT, I was told by the manager, Marlene, "I received one exchange as a FAVOR". I was also told that it was not the store's problem that my sandals broke, and that they would not be able to reconcile with the supplier to get THEIR money back. Honestly, being told the store policy is NO RETURNS, when it plainly says on the receipt "No returns/exchanges without receipt" is just bad business. Perhaps you should include the language "unless it is a faulty product-then NO RETURNS!" Yes, this was my second purchase of same sandals in 9 days. Both fell apart at the strap. Telling someone they can't have their money back after also acknowledging you couldn't get YOUR money back from supplier, could be considered bad business practices. I will also be reaching out to any and all consumer advocacy groups, and any and all sites taking reviews of businesses to let them know of your deceptive business practices. I have been nice and have not put up a huge fuss with you about this. (Honestly, the cost was only $27.81). But yet I somehow feel like you stole from me. It is NOT my fault either that the sandals broke. You really need to get a better distributor for your products. I'm sure I'm not the first person to have an issue, and most certainly won't be the last. Lastly, I have shopped in your cute store for over 30 years. I have purchased 2 other pairs of same sandals that lasted for years. I will never be shopping there again, as you are obviously under new management "Zat Enterprises, Inc." and exhibit consumer-biased business practices. P.S. This is actually not really directed toward you Marlene, or any other employee there, as I realize you are just doing your job. This is directed at the company management who makes up the store policies. Thank you

Yelp
I came in to get some sunscreen & left with some other things as well. Everyone working was very helpful & friendly. They sanitized after I made my purchase & wore mask/ gloves the whole time. Thanks again!! I will defiantly be coming back the next time I'm at the beach.

Yelp
After a relaxing visit at the Deerfield Beach Fishing Pier, I decided to check out the plethora of goods offered at this small locally owned souvenir shop as the goods in the window caught my eye! My first impression waking in was that the shop was not as small as it looked on the outside and that Jane, the shopkeeper and her co-worker were very friendly and welcoming. They invited me to look around the shop and that was what I did, enjoying every minute of it! I saw a selection of quality t-shirts with eye-catching designs that were high quality and reasonably priced at $10 in change. In addition to the t-shirts, I also saw cute signs with different dog breeds with "Life's a beach" written above them. I also saw essentials for the beach like chairs and sunscreen, jewelry, and refrigerator magnets. Since I did not know what I wanted initially, Jane invited me to come back later and look again, which was an offer I did not refuse as I would be going back there after dinner on my way to walk the Deerfield Fishing Pier at night. After dinner, I came back and settled on a t-shirt with an outline of a beach, a plane flying overheard, and Boca Raton written above for $9.99 and after tax, it was about $10.50. Jane, who was very friendly and welcoming once again, rang up my purchases and had me on my way! If I were in Deerfield Beach, I would definitely stop at The Beachcomber again as it is a charming local shop with friendly and welcoming service and a wide selection of goods at decent prices.

Yelp
Employees, manager and part-owner are all very rude and disrespectful to customers. We will not be going back... and we travel to deerfield beach twice each year. Very bad experience.

Yelp
Worst service ever. Bought an ornament there and it was broken when I got back to my parents (less than 10 minutes). I could tell it was broken without even unwrapping it from the bubble wrap that the cashier wrapped around it. Tried to bring it back and exchange it and they refused. They said I had to wait until the next day when a manager was in. I won't be here to come back. Instead of helping me they kicked me out of the store and threatened to call the police. I wish I could give them 0 stars

Yelp
I love your review Sheryl C. Let me tell you, they are just as bad to tourist parking at the sea-side shops. The lady at the Gelato Mini Mart and the man with the parrots were extremely rude to us (laughing at us), as they had our vehicle towed away while we shopped in their shops. It was wrongfully done and was a big ordeal to get our vehicle back. I too will use word-of-mouth to let everyone know not to patronize sea-side shops. -Sylvia

Yelp
If I could write this place is zero stars I would. My family of 10 came in on July 17 and spent $110 worth of merchandise. We entered the store at about 915 and two young ladies didn't even greet us, rather they told us that they were closing soon and we had to hurry and get out. Four of us are sisters and wanted to buy the same color shirt and we asked for assistance on multiple occasions for sizes. The two girls working were not only very rude but kept saying there's nothing in the back and that everything was out. They were rushing us out and so rude to my elderly mother. The sisters ended up getting two different color shirts because of the lack of service and help. We were all very disappointed as two of the sisters were leaving the next day. The two that were left came back to the store the next day and two very kind workers, Shelby and Diane Saw us digging through the shirts and said if you need help with sizes please let us know and we can go in the back and find whatever you need. Within three minutes they found the two sizes that we needed. We were told to put the shirts on hold and come in on Friday when a manager was there so we can tell the manager about our terrible experience and see if there was anything the manager and owner could do. Well, the two leftover sisters just left the store after speaking to the owner and manager and had a worse experience than their original stop in on Tuesday. The manager although kind, had no authority and was truly a puppet to the part owner. The part owner, Joan, is another story, she was terribly rude, would not work with us or offer any discount, said that our experience on Tuesday was not actually what happened, even though there were 10 of us who can tell you exactly what happened. The owner kept saying, almost yelling at us that there was nothing she would do or be willing to do, even though we have been customers since 2007 spending over $100 each time we came, sometimes we even come twice a year. It was such a disgrace, the manager was getting upset that we were talking about our experience at the front of the store so she took us to the back of the store. We asked to speak to Joan again, but she wouldn't come out of the back. After several minutes of asking the manager for Joan, Joan came out and continued to berate us saying that our experience on Tuesday was not what her video recording of that evening depicted. Her video surveillance camera didn't have sound and didn't even cover the entirety of the store, so she couldn't see what actually happened or who we spoke to. The owner is incredibly rude, berated us the entire time we were at the store and then wouldn't even come back out to talk to us after the manager spoke to us. If I were you I would avoid the store and go to Wings a couple shops over. They have the same products, for better prices. Avoid the Beachcomber at all costs! Tell your friends, do not risk going to the store. They will take advantage of you. AVOID THE BEACHCOMBER!

Yelp
This store is one we frequent a lot as locals as they are family owned of 42 yrs and have great prices and quality merchandise. It is not just another city beach store. My wife and I are waiting for the 3 no tax days coming up this weekend to shop for our daughter as well. Just think folks should know how nice and friendly this store is. R&R

Yelp
Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Beautiful beach themed decor. Much better selection than Wings.
