My Son Has Autism, and These Are 7 Trips I Recommend for Neurodiverse Families

"An autism-certified, all-inclusive resort on Seven Mile Beach with daily snorkel trips, unlimited water sports, three pools and a water park. Kids Camp staff are trained in sensory awareness, motor skills, social skills, communication and emotional regulation, and guests complete a pre-travel form so activities can be tailored to likes, dislikes and triggers. Families can hire a paid buddy ($20/hour) for one-on-one support — in one account the buddy played video games in the XBOX lounge and rode waterslides repeatedly — which provides respite for caregivers to relax at the beach or swim-up bar." - Lisa Kadane

"Escape to Cosmo's Beach When you tire of the people watching, loud music and hustle and bustle of Negril's central Seven Mile Beach, walk or drive over to its northern stretch. The private Cosmos Beach section--with a minimal entrance fee, under US$5--faces the best seafood restaurant in town, Cosmo's. The beach is a wide, endless white expanse with thatched bars, dispersed hammocks, and calm sea views. You'll find a few fellow tourists, but you'll hardly notice them."

From the moment we arrived at Beaches Resort, we knew we were in for something special. The welcome was warm, with refreshing drinks and genuine smiles from the staff who made us feel like VIPs from day one. Every detail was thoughtfully planned to create a relaxing, fun, and unforgettable family vacation. **The Resort & Accommodations:** Our room was immaculate and beautifully decorated, with a stunning ocean view that felt like something out of a postcard. Housekeeping was incredibly attentive, and the little touches—like towel animals for the kids and a well-stocked mini-fridge—made a big. The food was *outstanding*. With so many restaurants to choose from, we never had to repeat a meal unless we wanted to (and we definitely went back for seconds at Soy Sushi Bar and The Jerk Shack!). Whether it was gourmet dining or a casual beachfront lunch, the quality and variety were excellent. Even the pickiest eaters in our group found their favorites. What truly set this vacation apart was the **service**. Every single team member—from waitstaff to kids’ club counselors—was warm, helpful, and eager to make our stay perfect. The level of hospitality we experienced is hard to put into words—it felt like everyone genuinely cared about our experience. Beaches Resort gave us more than just a vacation—it gave us quality time together, laughter, relaxation, and memories we’ll cherish forever. If you’re looking for a worry-free, luxury all-inclusive that caters to every member of the family, look no further. We’re already planning our return trip!

Had a great time at Beaches Negril! Beautiful resort, great beach, amazing staff! ||||Annmarie & Tazalee at the Green Machine were great. Rojaye and Monique at the main pool bar were awesome! Rojaye is so much fun and took amazing care of us all week. The entertainment staff was great. Delly, John Cena, Jose Canseco, Alvin, the lady they called the voice of beaches Negril and the rest were incredible. ||||Housekeeping did a great job and were so friendly. The Restaurant manager at Stella—Tahell was fantastic and made us feel at home. ||Kemal & Kenile at loyalty were super helpful and so friendly. Jeseka and Christine at Dino’s also deserve a thank you. The team at Yo-yo’s and Cafe de Paris were sweet and did a great job. ||||Cretin and the water sports team were awesome. Great snorkeling experience with Cretin. He helped us see so many amazing sea creatures. Just incredible! ||||Only slight complaint was concierge. They only restocked our room once instead of daily like it’s supposed to be even though we called and asked a couple times. Also needed a tv remote and drying rack and they said they’d get it to us, but they never arrived. Security guy took care of it immediately a couple hours later when we mentioned it to him. They also told us the wrong nights for the seafood buffet even though we asked because it was listed correctly on the website and they insisted the website was wrong (it wasn’t). But these were very minor details and didn’t in any way keep us from having a great week!||||Highly recommend this resort! Awesome staff and beautiful property!!||||Highly recommend

We just got back from a wonderful vacation at Beaches Negril! We have a family of 5, 13 yr old, 10 yr old and 6 yr old and they had a wonderful time! The room was very clean and close to everything. The food was excellent. I would say the servings were a bit small but you can order more of it, so that doesn't really matter. I would say my kids would have liked more snack options throughout the day as they only have meal places and the yogurt shop. The kids loved the yogurt shop and they want 2x a day! The service was great and everyone was so helpful and nice! The hotel is at least 90 minutes from the airport which was a negative for us as my daughter gets car sick so the ride there and back was difficult for her. Wish it was a bit closer. The pool and water park and the beach were very clean. All in all the trip was great and would love to return again!

Such a fantastic experience at this resort. All aspects of the service team were top notch. Extremely friendly and helpful staff here. The food is exceptional at each of the restaurants (loved the Peruvian dinner the best). The beaches are well maintained and clean. The water is crystal clear. The Beach activities are managed from a third party company. We did 3-4 activities and excursions, and each was enjoyable, safe, and professionally handled. There's some very fast and fun water slides, and a splash area for the little ones. The evening and night shows featured a very talented team, employed full-time by the resort. From fire shows to water shows, reggae and Broadway nights -each were very enjoyable. Thank you Beaches Negril team for a great vacation!

We had the best time at this beautiful resort! We were treated like family. I love how they make a point to remember who you are. From the food to the entertainment...it was all amazing! Of course we had our favorite people that we interacted with most of the time. ...Shananay, Tazelle, and Rojae. But there were others that I wish I wrote down. Like the saxophone player. He came up to our table at breakfast and it was amazing! Thank you everyone for such a wonderful time! ❤️

We’ve stayed at Beaches Turks and Caicos in 2024, we tried Beaches Negril in 2025. A family of 4. We stayed in a concierge suite. The room was nice! Lots of cool airflow. There was a nice balcony where we were able to lay out swimsuits and have a breakfast on the patio. Pros: there were lots of beach chairs at the pools and on the beach. We did not have to fight for them like we did in Turks. The water sports were amazing! The boat took us out to go snorkeling about a mile from shore, Turks did not offer this. We saw lots of wildlife. The instructors were knowledgeable and friendly. There were no long wait times for restaurants. The views were amazing. The water slides were fun! The beach was raked and cleaned every morning. It was a smaller resort so it was easier to get around. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Cons: The food was mid, better than Turks. The lazy river was fun but the water was not clean. The entertainment was more for kids, more adult activities would have been nice. Like karaoke for adults only or longer family feud sessions. The tennis courts were not in the same area as the rest of the resort.

Beaches Negril Resort & Spa is a beautiful property with stunning views, a lively atmosphere, and plenty of activities to keep everyone entertained. The beach is absolutely gorgeous, and the overall vibe of the resort is fun and welcoming. That said, there were a few areas that could be improved. Our room wasn’t always cleaned as thoroughly as expected, the refrigerator leaked throughout our stay, and concierge service was either unavailable or not as attentive as we hoped. These issues didn’t ruin our trip, but they did take away from what could have been a perfect experience. Overall, we still enjoyed our time at Beaches Negril — the setting and amenities are wonderful — but with a little more attention to detail in service and upkeep, it could easily be a five-star experience. Thanks we truly appreciated the effort on our last night — thank you for the fruit, cheese, and crackers, along with the room cleaning. It was a thoughtful gesture that didn’t go unnoticed. 9/12-9/16/2025

We have been visiting Sandals/Beaches resorts for over 26 yrs now, including 7 trips to Beaches Ochi Rios and 1 to Turks and Caicos, this was our 1st holiday to Negril and without a doubt the best holiday we have ever had. |No other resort can compete with the beautiful location, the fabulous beach and crystal clear waters but the service from the staff making sure we never went without a drink whilst sitting on the beach, without a worry about finding chairs in the shade is down to the resort manager and his wonderful team. We were looked after by Shannon and Shaneak and a couple of other wonderful team members. I think it was Shannon on our last day who insisted on going to other bars on resort to find a bottle of my husbands favourite whisky when the beach bar ran out. He was happy to have an alternative but she insisted on going above and beyond. |The water sports team were great, we snorkelled twice, used the Hobie cat, went kayaking, paddle boarding and our daughter went water skiing.|There wasn't a single time at any meal that we had to ask for our water glasses to be refilled, a small thing but sometimes this has happened at other resorts. Every single member of staff we encountered was so willing to help and talk. Yes, some are a little more shy, but once you strike up a conversation with them they are more than happy to chat, even the security on the beach who ensure guests are kept happy, secure and took our room number when we went for early morning walks further along the beach and waved us back in again.|We are diamond guests and we had Karmal from Loyalty designated to us as a VIP concierge, this is something we have never experienced before. What a fabulous member or staff, we would love to have taken him home as he felt like family and wish he would be looking after us when we return to Jamaica in November on a trip to Sandals Ochi, Beaches Negril team have set the bar so very high every Sandals/Beaches resort has a challenge on their hands now to try and match.|Every single meal we had was a high standard and our diamond guest lunch was outstanding, it was lovely to have the chance to thank the chef when she came out to check we were happy with our meal. Also the food at the returning guests buffet was the best we have ever tasted at one of those events. We really enjoyed breakfast at Stellas on the beach, wow what a fabulous location. Buffet breakfast does get very competitive, great for a quick grab and go through so great to have a choice.|When asked by a team member if we had experienced any issues, I mentioned it was a shame they had run out of orange juice for the rooms but said it really wasn't a problem as I grabbed a glass of orange from the bar before bed, the team member ( I think Michelle) insisted she would resolve it for me, despite me saying it was honestly not a big deal, when we returned to our room there was a gallon catering bottle in our fridge!! |We were due to leave resort at 4pm for a 9.30pm flight, we asked front desk if we would be able to leave later and they were happy for us to do that as long as we signed a disclaimer which we happily did. To finish our holiday off on a real high, after checking out and sitting with our hand luggage on the beach enjoying our last day, Lancelot the General manager came past, when he realised we weren't checking out until 5pm, he called the room manager and asked that he try and find us a room to use as he didn't want us caught out in the rain forecast later that day with our hand luggage, the room manager happily obliged and came down with 2 room keys for our old room so we could leave our bags in and shower at the end of the day. It really was the icing on the cake at the end of a fabulous week, although our daughter is almost 18 and we wouldn't have to return to a beaches resort we will 100% be going back and taking some of our Sandals friends with us.
