Beachfront Hotel Hokitika

The location is great with easy access to food, supermaket, shops etc I’ve never stayed at a 4 star hotel where I need to put a sign out for servicing. Next day we didn’t put sign out as we hadn’t currently left our room and the cleaner opens the door without a knock (and some of us weren’t dressed!) and just walked in! The room wasn’t clean, lots of dust - they seem to dust around everything. Wifi is not great. And can’t connect your device to the tv. Customer service at reception wasn’t helpful when I talked about the servicing of rooms. When the cleaner came to the room the next day with towels to service we were leaving in 10 mins - I asked them to come back which I could tell really annoyed them. I would avoid the restaurant for the price and the quality of the food. But also a $2.50 charge for a takeaway box! Ridiculous!!

The location is the best thing about this hotel. Just a hop across from the beach and shopping, couldn't ask for a better place. Rooms were nice and basic. There were eno elevators in our building so we had to lug our heavy suitcases up two flights of stairs ourselves.

Stayed in Ocean View deluxe room on the second floor which had a balcony. Hotel is right on the beach seafront, with stunning views to the sea .... absolutely beautiful sunsets. Staff all lovely and helpful, food and drinks great. Highly recommend!

We're grateful to the Chinese-speaking staff at the reception. Also grateful to the manager for her communication and understanding. We spent a wonderful night. Falling asleep and waking up to the sound of the waves was truly wonderful.

I was prepared to hate this hotel as the most disappointing so far on our 5 week trip. It didn’t have any air con - it was a hot day - and we faced the prospect of having to lug exceptionally heavy cases up the stairs to our room. But to be fair some poor member of staff drew the short straw to lug the cases up the flight of stairs not only for us but for a tour group also checking in. I hope they pay him extra for such hard work! The air con is apparently only in 2 rooms in the hotel, the penthouse suite. However once we’d got over the initial stifling room, we put the fan on and it eventually did its job. On the plus side the beds and pillows were comfy, the bathroom well equipped and the shower pretty good. I even had a plug near a mirror to dry my hair, something that even 5 star hotels can get wrong. This is really the best of the hotels in Hokitika and it was just for a night. Ocean views are amazing when you walk along the beach.

The staff is really nice and the lobby was clean. However, the bedroom's bathroom was dirty when we checked in. It looked like black mold was in the shower. We had a 2 bedroom beachfront room. The view was beautiful! However the layout of the rooms was weird. You have to walk through one of the rooms to get to the bathroom. The beds were comfortable and the main rooms were clean. We ate at the restaurant in the hotel for breakfast and dinner. Breakfast was not that great of food however their dinner menu is amazing! Their rack of lamb was the best rack of lamb I had while in New Zealand. Definitely eat there for dinner but maybe skip their breakfast.

Highly Recommend We have stayed here before 3 years ago. The hotel is the same, smelt nice was clean and of course still has the ocean view. They have stayed the course and maintained the same service and facilities which in these times is a credit to them. The hotel is equal to any we have stayed in. Ants Chch

Was the best accomodation I stay at when I was traveling the south island. Was great value.. had everything I needed and more. Was close to beach and location couldn't have been better. Very friendly people. Very tidy and clean though out the hole building. Would be my first pick out of everything in that that town. A++++
