Beachfront Hotel Hokitika

We had dinner at the Beachfront's Ocean View Restaurant. We sat outside on the terrace as it was a stunning evening. Watching the surfers catch waves and listening to the sound of the sea was very relaxing over a glass of wine. The food was great, we shared the meat platter which came with a fresh salad. The dessert was delicious, and I enjoyed the pavlova. Great service, too. We will be back.

Waited a long time to stay here and my husband decided to treat us for our 18th wedding anniversary and was a little underwhelmed to be honest. We upgraded to an oceanfront room so paid a premium ($270) but we were unfortunately on the ground floor so got a glimpse of the beach rather than the beach view we imagined, and had cars parked outside so kind of ruined the relaxed vibe we were going for. Room was well appointed and water pressure amazing. Some small cleaning issues and paint chipped off bathroom door. Fairly minor but at that price, we were surprised and disappointed.

Following a very stressful check in experience that would have been immediately resolved had the receptionist any clue about the rooms, we ultimately found we did indeed have the ocean view driftwood room we thought we had booked. Whilst the view was fantastic, the room was average at best with leaking windows and cramped bathroom. The bed was very hard and the 2 singles used to make a king did not have the topper so there was a distinct lump in the middle. Not a good nights rest. The only saving grace for this hotel was the wonderful restaurant and the staff working there were lovely. Thoroughly enjoyed both dinner and breakfast there.

Hotel was amazing with amending a wrong date booking. |Views were spectacular and rooms were very clean and comfortable. Shower over bath, safe, balcony with sea breaze.|Even experienced an emergency evacuation that went without a hitch and with confident and calm staff.

We had a Beach front ground floor room, which was very clean & comfortable. However very stuffy no air flow, or AC Shower over the bath was a bit of a challenge to get in and out off, plus water seems to get all over the floor. Not well designed Rooms are pretty sound proof. No view on the ground floor. Not the worse place to stay, but more thought into having AC & better bathrooms

Great Hotel. Great service. Lotis welcomed us very friendly at the reception and checked in every guest very quickly. Tip: Book a higher room category than the lowest and you will get a big room which is quiet as not facing the main street. Generally quiet new and modern. Everything very clean. Loved it to stay here, especially after staying in motels for days now.

Only went to the restaurant didn't stay so I can't give an opinion on the the rooms or staff within the hotel. Stairs to restaurant, don't recall seeing a lift . Staff within the restaurant were lovely, very attentive, and friendly. The trainee on tonight did a great job. The front of house that was on shift when we dined was great and made sure we had been served in a reasonable time. The food was amazing, both my husband and I order options off 'the stonegrill experience'. Many choices for drinks including non alcoholic choices. There was a communication error between staff in the kitchen, and our main dish order was cooked faster than usual/while we were eating our entrée. The waitress who was sent to ask if she could bring it out to us early was apologetic and very sweet. Overall would definitely dine there again

Stayed for 2 nights. Room was great. Location was good. They don't have many parking spots so in order to guarantee you'll get one, you gotta be there before 6/7pm. Secondly, their washer worked fine but the dryer did not dry our clothes at all so we had to leave them on the drying stand for the night.
