On the Grid : Riverdale Mac

"If you need repairs, upgrades or just some general knowledge dropped about what your Mac can do, stop here for pretty much everything you need. You'll find cables, accessories and protective wear, as well as a large selection of Herschel's bags and laptop cases. The staff are very friendly and will help you learn as well as fix. They also have a nostalgia trip of a back wall, including the 1984 Macintosh." - Kev Seto

All the staff at the Beaches Mac Store are phenomenal in both their knowledge and customer service. I knew my MacBook was on life support but I was hoping it would survive till fall when I could buy a new MacBook and not die when the CRA wants to take all my money in April -). My charge cord died and won’t hold a charge in the middle of an urgent project with tight deadlines - isn’t this always way! I raced to the store to buy a new charger before they were closing. Unfortunately they didn’t have one in stock . My heart sunk . They looked at my old charger confirmed it was the cord but told me my battery was definitely about to die . They told me they had a new battery available in stock . They told me it would only take half a day to fix . They went above and beyond . They had a charger for the store but it was missing a piece . My charger had the piece they were missing but my cord wasn’t working . The nice employee I think his name was Colin took a piece from my old charger and inserted in the stores charger and allowed me to bring home the stores only charger if I promised to bring it back. This is why I love about this neighborhood! They trusted me and saved my sanity . It was helpful as I could work on my document at night and I made an appointment to change my old battery the next day. And I gave them my missing piece to keep. I was worried it would take days but they told me should only take a several hours . I left walked home and when I got home it was already ready to be picked up. They also found a used charger for me instead of buying a brand new one . Amazing staff , exceptional service, very knowledgeable and helpful. I would highly recommend Beaches Mac

Google
Beach Mac is excellent. Got some great advice on a new computer, saved some $$ by purchasing a slightly used model. The tech support in moving my old data onto the new computer was first class as was the assistance in getting familiar with the new device. Couldn’t have been better.

Google
So glad I came here to get my Mac fixed and not Eaton centre!! They quickly got to the bottom of my Mac not turning on, and even helped me contact apple to get the cost covered with my warranty. Picking up my laptop less than 24 hours later :) happy camper!

Google
Beach Mac is a true gem. Downtown, top-notch service in your own neighbourhood. Professional experts that can solve your computer woes, a good stock of whatever you may need and always a friendly smile. It’s great to have some professional advice you can always count on right here in the ‘hood. Can’t recommend them highly enough.

Google
Why go downtown or mall to a crowded Apple Store when you can deal quickly with a neighborhood store like BeachMac on Queen Street East. The service there is quick, professional and patient with older customers like me. I highly recommend their personal service and products.

Google
Many thanks to the amazing team at BeachMac for the great service when I purchased my new iMac. Great advice, extremely helpful, willing to make the effort to answer all my concerns - and a pleasure to deal with. Much appreciated.

Google
I recently purchased a new laptop at BeachMac. All the staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. They advised me on what to purchase for my current needs and on any required accessories. They were also able to transfer all my data from my old device and answer any questions I had. I would definitely recommend them to my family and friends.

Google
Friendly, helpful people and great service. Everything I read on the internet indicated that an Apple Pencil, left uncharged for too long, was toast. The folks at Beach Mac quickly replaced the battery and got me drawing again. They’re a registered Mac Dealer as well and in my neighbourhood.

Yelp
Great service on the repair of my Airpod Max. The battery was dying and bluetooth was on its way out. They repaired them back to day zero quality. They must have replaced the outer shells too, because the scuffs and gouges from years of use were gone. Thank you for the incredible service. I shall return in the future, guaranteed.

Yelp
Very disappointing service. I had an issue with my new Airpad and took it in for help. The female Tech was pleasant and did a cursory look and said she would have to research it and get back to me. I called a couple of times for an update, but never heard back from them.

Yelp
Quick, efficient, did the job at a reasonable price. What more could you ask for. I'd go back. Also, seemed to be doing a stellar job of pandemic management!

Ingrid B.

Yelp
outstanding service. genuinely wanting to help professional and courteous

Yelp
I brought in my laptop which was having wifi issues and an employee named Chris was so condescending and rude that I had them immediately reverse the deposit I had just put down on my repairs. I'll be taking my business elsewhere and steering well clear of Beach Mac from now on. I received a response to this negative experience from the owner nearly a full year after posting it. She claimed the clerk mentioned receives daily awards (accolades) for behaviour that was the polar opposite of what I experienced. I didn't see his collection of trophies and ribbons, so I can't say for certain... However, when a business owner takes a 11 months (and change) to address a complaint by telling a customer they were just wrong, it's a pretty clear indication that they either don't know what's going on in their own store, or they just don't care. Either way, nothing will change

Yelp
How great to have Beach Mac right here on Queen East instead of having to go downtown and into the Eaton's Centre, which I prefer to avoid. They have all the standard products and accessories, and knowledgeable staff. Besides wanting to support small business and beach businesses and skip the trek downtown, I find the store welcoming. Unlike so many small businesses leaving the area I am hoping Beach Mac stays. They do repairs, set ups and lessons too.

Yelp
I am AMAZED and AGOG that this is BeachMac's first review! MacPeeps in the MacBeach, check this place out! Staff are wonderful - friendly, funny, and - wow - they know Macs. Both of the employees I met were young males (appropriately and adorably geeky), and were absolutely lovely. They were patient with my ignorance (this is my very first Mac, and it's a hand-me-down), and listened to every single thing I said. LOVE THAT. It's a cute little corner shop on East Queen East (does anyone else say that?) between Woodbine & Victoria Park. It's small, but efficient. Spacious for its "front-of-house" needs. They sell everything Mac-ish... Sometimes (if the door at the rear swings open) you can catch a glimpse of the MacFairies working at the back... it's all very secret and special. Street parking, and there are always spots available (SCORE!) I took in two MacBooks - one mine and one for a friend. The friend needed upgrades to everything, and I had an odd problem with CAPSLOCK and Shift. Everyone on the Apple Support online forums said my issue was related to an operating system upgrade bug... NOPE! It was just the keyboard and housing needing to be replaced. They send an email every day it's in the shop to let you know what's going on, as well as an email when it's ready! My MacBook was ready in two days, the other in five. Pretty darn MacAwesome. And - LISTEN - when they hand you a bill from a computer bought in 2006 with a $0 bill... I mean, just come on. I love it.

Yelp
I needed a replacement touchpad on my Mac Air and the nearest 'Apple' location was BeacMac. I dropped off the laptop and picked it up a few days later. Upon pick up, they informed me that my hard drive was faulty. When I got home, my screen would not turn on and I noticed the screen was also significantly indented inwards. I thought that Beachmac had given me the wrong laptop so I phoned to inquire. They assured me that it was my laptop and they also told me the hard drive was damaged due to a previous liquid spill. I brought the Mac to a friend who is familiar with Macs and he hooked it up to a monitor. After confirming it was indeed my laptop he also agreed that the laptop must have been dropped and damaged when in the possession of Beachmac. The hard drive seemed fine and worked well with the monitor. I phoned again to make a case but was met with denials. They insisted the reason for the screen not working is from a damaged hard drive and that when I dropped it off I indeed acknowledged there was a small dent on the outside case of the laptop, with a signature. Because of this acknowledgment, I had no claim even though the laptop was clearly much more damaged than being previously dropped off. I did not think to take pictures of the laptop previous to dropping it off. I phoned Apple, and they told me that because BeachMac is not an authentic Apple outlet, there is nothing they could do. For any readers, reading this, take pictures and document your laptop before allowing a shop to work on your laptop and choose an authentic Apple outlet instead of Beachmac. Cheers

Yelp
This is a really nice shop in the neighbourhood for anyone that owns an Apple product. Don't be fooled by the store's small size as you'll most likely find what you were looking for in here. To top it off the guys working here are really nice and helpful.

Yelp
This afternoon I went into beach Mac because I was in a rush and was in need of a phone charger. I went in picked out on (that was 35$) and put it on the counter. I was the only person inside. The assistant manager was there and standing right in front of me on the phone with a customer. He did not acknowledge me with a smile, a gesture, a "sorry one moment please", nothing. He simply continued chatting as if I wasn't there. Standing directly in front of me. Like I said I was in a rush and parked right outside the door as I thought this would be a quick and easy transaction for myself and the store. I stood there for a couple more minutes to see if his conversation was ending sometime soon or perhaps he could scan my item and let me pay for it while still chatting on the phone. Unfortunately he kept standing in the same position not acknowledging me whatsoever. So I eventually just walked out. I've bought many products from here and usually find the service decent. I won't be going back. Luckily I went to the Source down there street where they were very pleasant and helpful! I think I'm a small neighbourhood like the beaches it is important to treat all customers with respect!

Yelp
Smart staff, great service, and an impressive selection for a small shop. I consistently get excellent service and good advice here. They are a little quick to suggest I buy this and that, but they are a store, and that's their job. I've had great experiences with trade-ins here as well. They offer a respectable amount for used Apple products. I haven't attended any of their workshops, but I hear good things. A great apple store.

Yelp
Lars the Apple technician at BeachMac is terrific: honest, hard-working, and a professional. He called me the day after I dropped off my constantly-stalling laptop to give me a technical diagnosis, a cost estimate of various options, and his final recommendation (install a solid state drive and upgrade my operating system). He explained that while my laptop could use more RAM and a new battery and he'd happily install both, neither are urgently needed. So I passed on both, and saved ~$300. Most importantly, my laptop is running beautifully again.

Yelp
I was having problems with a MacBook I bought at Beach Mac. It kept crashing. I brought it in and got it back with the info there was nothing wrong with it, irregardless of the 24 pages and more of permission errors that appeared in disc doctor. Brought it in again with a hard copy of the error list and when I picked it up, I was told the problem "whatever it was", was fixed. When I got home, I ran disk doctor. there were still pages and pages of errors. Knowing the laptop was going to crash again, I decided to record the next crash so they could see what I was seeing. I didn't have to wait long. I brought the laptop in again, this time with video proof of the sequence of events that led to the repeating crashes. After I paid yet again for the "repair", I opened my laptop at home to find a note from the repair person that I assume was supposed to be removed by the manager before the MacBook was returned. The repair guy claimed once again there was nothing wrong, further, that I was crazy in language that was both homophobic and condescending. I don't know who was worse, the repair person, or the owner of the store who did nothing but stare at me blankly when I showed him the note left by the repair guy. This all happened a few years ago but I think it's fair to write the review now. Unless the store is under new management, and by the sounds of the other reviews, it ain't, they deserve every raspberry they get.

Yelp
I needed a charging cord for my IPad. The phone was answered confirming it was in stock. The assistant manager Mark was very helpful on the phone and looked after my request when I went to the store the next day. He checked to see that the replacement cord was charging the IPad. Knowledgeable and professional service. A good experience.

Yelp
I was having troubles with iPhone & took it to BeachMac and Chris Allen was a fantastic help! I would highly recommend seeing Chris at BeachMac for any of your Mac or iPhone needs.

Yelp
By FAR the best Apple place to visit . My Macbook Pro crashed and after a week of running around my coworker suggested I visit here. This place was same-day fast and beyond fair in price point! I will NEVER step foot into another Apple Store! HOORAY!!! Their chaos and hurriedness does not appeal to me whatsoever. These guys are the real deal. Upfront. Honest. Thorough and friendly. After my hard drive crashed (for a 2nd time) I was reluctant to go back to the place that serviced it before. I knew from the second I phoned in and spoke with Mark (panic ensuing) that I had found my go to place for all my Apple needs. He reassured me and calmed me by asking me the right questions and suggesting all the possible problems. Was a pleasure to deal with them. I got the best quote and it turned out my last hard drive was subpar. (not surprised but disappointed nonetheless). Will be a repeat customer! (tip: plenty of free parking on side streets)

Yelp
I love BeachMac. I've purchased many Apple products there over the years (computers, iPads, iPhones, cases, back-up devices). The staff is friendly and knowledgable and the owner, Myles, is almost always on-site. There is little turn-over (a sign of a well-run business) so I am known by name - which I appreciate in a big city. The tech master, Lars, is crazy smart and has been able to fix my problems quickly and affordably. When he can't (which is not often the case) he is honest about it and doesn't try to up-sell me. I love Apple products but, frankly, find the Apple stores noisy, crowded, time-consuming and a bit daunting. It's wonderful to be able to receive the same level of service in a friendly community setting.

Yelp
It's refreshing to find an owner who takes pride in his business. Myles has gone above and beyond to make sure I'm a satisfied customer. Thank you BeachMac.

Scott L.

Yelp
Very poor customer service. I went in to see why a download wasn't working on my MacBook Air and was told the hourly rates before the sales rep even asked any questions. I asked if they would even take a quick look so we could figure out how much time might be required, and another rep chimed in on the hourly rates before any more investigation could be done. The funny thing is there was nobody in the store (other than a couple buying a backpack) and 2 sales reps that were there were more eager to tell me of the hourly rates that they were to help me out. Perhaps this is why the store is so empty, they aren't really there to help but are happy to tell you their hourly rates.

Yelp
Went in here to look at iPads to replace my old one. I have to say WOW I have never been so mistreated in a store before. When I walked in the man working didn't even greet me. I said hello to him and he straight up ignored me. Every time I went to ask a question he seemed like he was "too busy", he actually walked away mid sentence. He was grouchy and nasty. I was absolutely shocked to look at his name tag and have it read "Myles owner"!! Will never go back!

Yelp
I bought a MacBook Air here. I paid them to have my data transferred from my last laptop. This was done, but was incompletely done. I have asked for them to finish what they started, and I'm told I have to pay more money for this. Not acceptable. Owner not helpful.

Yelp
Brought in my mac computer when it unexpectedly died on me one day. From the little research I did I realized it was most likely an issue with my hard drive and maybe needed a replacement. Decided to bring it in to my local Mac store for an easy estimate/repair. My experience here will make me never go here again. First they gave me a time window to when they would contact me after they "assessed" what the issue was. That window came and went and after a few days over the window I called to see what was up. They completely neglected to contact me even though it seemed the assessment had been finished days ago. The guy even said" did no one call you back??" No apologies, just "nothing we could do" and come pick up your computer. I didn't get much information over the phone so when I went in person I decided to ask in more detail what exactly happened to my computer's sudden demise. They gave me very little detail and to be honest seemed as if they did the bare minimum to even look at what was wrong, told me my computer was done and didn't have the parts to replace the hard drive. They charged me $60+ to tell me there was nothing they could do and weren't helpful in the slightest. Brought my computer into another guy who fixed, cleaned and upgraded my computer for $350.00 all in. Works like a dream and I didn't have to buy another mac @ $1800. Don't go here they will just take your money.

Allison M.

Yelp
Made an appointment for today to get my MacBook fixed and travelled across town to get there. When I got there, they said the IT guy wasn't in today. I'm not sure why they made repair appointments when there was no one there to fix my laptop. They said they could keep my laptop in the back for a few days until he comes into work but not worth it at all. So disappointed with how much time I wasted considering I had an appointment made.

Yelp
Spilled lovely wine all over my laptop. They were very open and communicative about the price and what the possible outcomes may be, possible further damages, cost, etc. Turn-around time was excellent. Price was the same as any other Apple product repair would be, will go back the next time I spill booze on an iThing.

Yelp
Dropped my Mac air off to Beach Mac to replace the trackpad. In return, the following day, I received back an air with a broken motherboard and visibly damaged display which made the screen unusable. When questioned about it, they denied any involvement that may have included dropping the air. I received a 'I don't know what to tell you'. Frustrating. They are not an apple retailer and the laptop is not under warranty, so Apple could not help. Thankfully they replaced the track pad before dropping it, and I am now using it as a frisbee in my ample off line time. Take a few pics of your machine before handing it in.

Yelp
BEWARE: THIS RATING IS NOT FAVORABLE. Also for yelp, i went to this shop only because of absolutely positive ratings at your web site. I don't have any idea, about consistent, exceptional service etcetc.....I am a regular guy, and this is what i received from them. My Imac was fried with water spillage or what not. I went to the shop. Excellent smiles, and all that , if you consider that a service. NOTHING CAN BE DONE TILL OUR TECHNICIAN COMES BACK ON SO AND SO DAY ETCETCTEC. usual grind you see!! After a couple of days, i get a phone call from that GUY saying it's fried beyond repair, or rather repair would cost more than new mac etcetc.....i went back to shop......paid their charges( near $75 to open and have a look at it, i guess!!!), , and kept cursing my dollars down the drain. Somehow, i managed enough courage to buy HDMI cable for mac for around $50, and you know what' that mac is perfectly fine, no issue except for LCD display!!!1 They should refund my charges and compensate me rather. THIS IS A GENUINE EXPERIENCE.

Yelp
Wtf. I brought my iPhone in today. It is covered under apple care and was expecting a quick exchange. Instead, they took my phone and said they would "assess" it and get back to me tomorrow afternoon. Now I have no phone and its my birthday tomorrow. I have no way for them to contact me as I will be at work. No phone and expecting important calls. Totally unacceptable. Never go to this store

Jane L.

Yelp
I went in here looking for a case for my MacBook. He asked me what colour my Mac was (?) and I said white, and he immediately said that he has nothing for me, and neither does anyone else. I explained that my Mac was white because it was issued by my work, who bought them in bulk, and that it was less than 2 years old. Again, he tells me he has nothing for me (he doesn't even bother looking) and good luck finding something because what I have is way outdated. I went home and found what I was looking for in 30 seconds on the Apple website. I found him to be very rude.
