Neighborhoods in Boston

"With its original gas-lit street lamps, brick sidewalks, and Federal-style row houses embellished with ornate iron work and decorative doors, Beacon Hill ranks as the most picturesque neighborhood in the city. The area has long housed some of the city’s most illustrious families with early residents including Louisa May Alcott, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Robert Frost, and Sylvia Plath. The gilded-dome Massachusetts State House, designed by Charles Bulfinch and open for tours, sits at the top of Beacon Hill, which overlooks Boston Common, the oldest public park in the US. From the Boston Common Visitors Center, you can begin walking the Freedom Trail, a 2.5-mile walking path that tells the story of Boston’s early history. At the bottom of the hill, Public Garden, the first botanical garden in the nation, is home to the famous Swan Boats, a fleet of century-old pontoon pleasure boats that visitors can take for a ride on the Lagoon for just a few dollars. Along the brick sidewalks of Charles Street, at the bottom of Beach Hill, are antique stores, art galleries, cafes, restaurants, and shops like Savenor’s Market, where chef Julia Child used to buy her meat." - MATADOR_NETWORK

Yelp
Our hotel was in Beacon Hill and it's one of the oldest neighborhoods in Boston so of course we had to wander through these beautifully old homes and cobblestone streets. This is one of the only "hilly" areas in Boston but don't worry, it's not San Francisco, so the hills are very manageable and actually quite enjoyable to climb. There are so many cool homes and I was trying my best not to be creepy and respect the fact that they are peoples actual homes. But I wanted to gawk and stop all the time and take all the pictures. So pretty. One of the most notorious places to visit in this neighborhood is Acorn St. And I must say it is worth it. I know it's one of those "influencer" sites but it's so freaking cute and I can see why people want to take a lot of pictures here. We were not able to get lone shots and I had to maneuver my shots to not have strangers in it but it was gorgeous to just be in the area. Definitely worth a visit, quick or for a duration.

Yelp
This is one the best spot to visit when you are in Boston. It is known to be most photographed street in Boston. It was built in 1800s for tradespeople. You can see the original cobblestone ( uneven rocks). Be careful while walking on the rocks. They are very uneven. Use the mini sidewalk. It is so beautiful! Beautiful lamps and of course the brick buildings. Make your stop here when you are in Boston. Highly recommended.

Yelp
New and old, all in one spot. In the old you have vintage cobblestone street where a car would have trouble getting through, to the Neveau, where the high society lives. Although our tour guide wasn't sure of the exact locations this is where Tom Brady called home, and where John Kerry among others live. Its a nice bustling neighborhood and is worth your time to walk through and look around. We only had a few minutes to look around, but from my brief experience here it's a beautiful neighborhood with some high-end shops to look browse as well.

Yelp
This is the old part of Boston with red brick buildings, cobblestone streets, church, uphill street and lots of cute little shops. It was nice to stroll around and it had a quiet, quaint and high society vibe. There was a beacon hill book and cafe and j.p. licks ice cream shop both located on charles street. It's worth the visit if you are in Boston.

Yelp
11-22-22 The words Beacon Hill caught my eye reading blogs on Pinterest for itineraries to do in Boston. Beacon Hill, Acorn Street and Charles Street were our destination points for today. Yes, all 3 spots were challenging to find and lucky for us the old adage Don't talk to strangers, told to most kids including myself, guess once you reach a certain age, you have the choice to judge yourself. Believe me, we asked many people on the street for directions even a policeman. Only 2 ignored us, a lady with head phones on and a foreign exchange looking student. The others stopped with a smile to offer assistance and even a few who heard me asking another person approached to give us directions. The affluent live and shop here. Private streets requiring permits, gas lamps lit in broad daylight, pumpkins on step ups and even LaVerne and Shirley type below street level are prevalent here. Cool door knockers, stained glass, red brick, wind swept maple leaves.., all added to the charm of this neighborhood. The policeman said Mt. Vernon Street. The delivery guy told me Cedar Stteet. A very polished and well dressed woman told us specifically which way to go cuz we were so close and that it's a small, pretty street. They were each the most helpful. Know what? Beacon Hill is an area. Acorn Street is unsigned. I asked a young man who just came out of a doorway, is this Acorn Syreet. He nodded yes. Charles Street we stumbled upon after Acorn Street and chose Figs(Italian) to have a very late lunch and park it. I needed to sit and rest. So very glad our first day back in a month, here's three to check off our Boston Thanksgiving 2022 bucket list. Magical, whimsy around every corner, this fall into Christmas season is wonderful to hoof it and literally wander, explore using the T: use the blue line to Boudin or red line to Charles Street station and keep asking. So many nice Bostonians you will come across. Harvey the pup was a joy...cute puppies, you get me every time.

Yelp
Beacon Hill is a quaint cobblestone neighborhood full of Boston's rich history. This area features some of the oldest homes in Boston, which are often handed down from one generation to the next. THE DEAL: Take a walking tour to discover some of its hidden secrets!

Yelp
Beacon Hill has a modern spin on Boston, and this part of Boston is very old as well. From the shops, restaurants, and residential streets all on a hill you will notice driving or walking by. Here you can find the historical picture spot on ACORN STREET right on the first few streets on Beacon Hill. Quite and not to loud. Big buildings with a small town vibe feeling really enjoyed this community.
