Bear Canyon Campground

The sites are really narrow, our slide out was literally over the bench of our neighbor's picnic table (we talked to them and it was just a couple, we were both only staying 1 night, so they didn't care about the table), and it wouldn't have been possible to put the awning out. The pool was nice and warm. The views are nice. It was quiet.

Nice looking campground overall. Well maintained, but had a bad service experience. They have laundry facilities but the times are pretty restrictive. They're locked until the office opens at 9 a.m. ,check out is at 11 a.m. Staff running the place on Saturday (two teenagers) don't actually show up until ~1020, looks like they came in late with coffee. May just be a one off bad experience, but extremely annoying when you paid over $70/night for a spot and you're trying to do something as simple as get laundry done before leaving.

We loved Bear Canyon! Site was level and shaded. The views from this hilltop are gorgeous. The location is so convenient to all the things we came get for. We enjoyed renting DVDs for only $2! The owners are fantastic, friendly people eager to advise and help. Would stay here again in a heartbeat! Only negatives-poor TV channels w/just antenna, and occasional trains. But I sleep with ear plugs and if you have your AC on in this summer heat, you don’t even hear them. Highly recommend.

Right off I90 a few miles before Bozeman. 1 hour to Big Sky. 1 and a half hours to West Yellowstone entrance. 30 minutes to Palisades Falls. Easy on and off. Great sites with beautiful mountain views and a great little pool to take a dip in after a long day of hiking. Very friendly staff with a cute little gift shop on site. Some freeway and train noise, but nothing to stop a relaxing stay. Such a great base camp spot for traveling. I would stay anytime passing through MT on 190.

A little pricey but they have laundry and full service hookups. Trains are very close and the lots are right next to each other. But it was a good place to get free showers and swim. It's a great place to get away from the busy main street. No stores within walking distance.

While this is a sweet hilltop campground with amazing sunsets and literally right off I90 (but not at all noisy) and 5 min from Bozeman center. |our site is littered with trash including a dog poop and a big black piece of tire rubber. There are so many un picked up dog poops it’s a land mine to walk your own dog! There doesn’t seem to be anyone that cares to clean so that’s why 3 stars

We stayed here two nights on a cross-country trip. Very convenient right off I-90 exit and 10 minutes from Bozeman. The W+E backin sites along the south side have a nice view out the rear over ag lands and mountains, but little shade. Expect to need to level left-to-right in these sites before unhitching. Most other sites have some shade. Terrain provides substantial protection from nearby freeway noise except along the very north side row of sites 32-50. Looks like a good place for tenting with kids, with pool and play space. We would definitely pick this campground again if passing this way.

I would not recommend this site for tent campers. This is an RV site with the backyard grass area of their office building available for tents to set up just a few feet away from each other. This works wonderful as a last resort but not a camping experience. The train and the highway are right there along with a street light lamp that will shine bright above your tent. $50 a night seemed pretty steep for what they offer for a tent camping. I understand they have showers and access to laundry and a small pool so they can charge more for tent campers. That's why I say it's definitely more geared for RV campers.

First off, we booked months in advance. They put us in an RV site that they KNEW had bad power. Spent a good hour getting all hooked up, and after plugging in, my surge protector alerted that the negative cables on the box were switched - dangerous. Spoke to the young man at the front desk who said oh yeah we've had another person complain about that last week. Ok? And the owner just refuses to fix it? Wow... then proceeds to tell me they are completely booked and can't move us to a different site, so, I'm supposed to use my generator all week? Magically, an hour later they find us a different site. Dog area is not fenced and they obviously don't care if people don't pick up their dog's crap. I stepped in it multiple times. Lastly, we had to run a load of laundry which took 4 hours. Washers work fine but had to wait 3 hours to get a dryer since 2 of the 4 don't work very well - fix your f'n dryers. Yet, the loudmouth owner proceeds to give my pregnant wife shit about leaving our laundry in the dryer for an extra 45 minutes - sorry we tried to get it done before dinner, but since you're a cheap ass and won't fix the dryer somehow it's our fault. Stay away from this place. Shame on you.

Super nice people, beautiful views. Bathrooms and laundry were very clean. We enjoyed Bozeman.

I love this park! My toad had to go in the shop for a week and they gave me a weekly discount and rearranged other reservations so I did not have to move sites. Pretty park on a hill, with trees and a great view. Close to the freeway, but a map would tell you that. Trees help mitigate the noise. Yes there is a low overpass if coming westbound, I think 13' 11", but they have a notice and directions on their homepage.

Would highly recommend this place. Great staff. Safe and sound great place to being the kids

Not bad for the price. Sites are gravel and there is not rhythm or reason for some of the sewage hookups no being close to the other hookups in some sites. I had rock up before leaving to dump or go to the dump station located near the office. The campground itself seems well kept and has some great views. Dog park area isarge but should be fenced. The staff need to be more available had a sewage backup in the restroom during office hours and no one was around. Showers are small if your a large person.

Loved it here! We had a nice site with a beautiful view in the backyard. So close to everything we wanted to do in Bozeman and easy access to get to Yellowstone park as well. Friendly staff, clean bathrooms, nice pool, stayed for a week in July 2022 and really enjoyed it. And amazing sunsets every night. Will come again!

Beautiful location. Plenty of grass and trees. Very good facilities. If your rig is higher than 13 feet, there is a 13' 3" underpass at the bear Canyon exit. If you are coming from the east, you have to go to the next exit and approach from the west.

They have a nice wide dog park and some beautiful views. This campground is off the freeway up on the hill and sometimes you could hear the traffic but not bad. What kept me up was the multiple trains that went by and blew their horns. I swear I counted at least 6 trains throughout the night. The picnic tables are very worn and felt very close to the neighbors during this COVID time. There is a dump site up front by the office for those that didn't get that option at their site. We couldn't open our awning because of the trees but we were only there for one night. It seemed a little crowded to me the night we stayed but everyone was friendly.

Prior to arriving, we were quoted a price and when we checked in we were charged a different rate and the help stated we were charged the correct rate. So we requested that the manager return our call twice to resolve the discrepancy with no return call. The parking spaces were very narrow and uneven, the "dog area" even though posted to pick up after your dog, was very unkept with, well, lots of dog remains. And yes, the entry to the park was up a hill with the signage unclear, thus we had to make a difficult u-turn to make it up the road to the campground. I do not believe any upgrades have ever been done since the park's inception and maintenance seems poor to none. Most of the spaces are occupied by long term residents and we were placed next to some sort of day care operation. NO, I definitely would not return to this campground, even a Walmart parking lot would have been an improvement.

This was our first time to Montana. This is a campground with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. The staff are super nice and helpful. They have full hookups and pull-throughs. The only downside was the bathhouse. The showers are small and could be updated. We enjoyed our stay here and would come back

Big rigs beware! Biggest obstacle of this park is the 13 ft 3 in overpass you have to go under if coming from east. Park is at exit 313 but if coming east on 90 you'll have to go to exit 309 to turn around to avoid going under low clearance. Then to get back on highway to go west you'll have to go to exit 316 to continue going west on 90. Pull through sites are narrow, uneven and tree lined we struggled parking our 42 ft 5th wheel with 5 slides in the spot but were finally able to. Park itself is nice, gravel spots though uneven. Would be good for smaller rigs or maybe even motorhomes. Just be very clear with people on the phone when booking how much space you need and how big you are. Hopefully they'll give you an easier spot and warn you about low clearance, but we weren't.

This campground has large pull thru sites in the center of the park and then small back in sites all along the outside. I, unfortunately, had a crummy site to have to back into because of the placement to the roads and a tree in front of my site. It took me a while to get in my site right which was frustrating after a long day of driving. The park itself is surrounded by beautiful scenery, but there is nothing else off that exit. Bozeman is about 15min away.

I'm so tired of campgrounds taking advantage of RV'ers. This is not a resort. This is not a hotel. Your amenities are nothing special. They charge extra for more than 2 people.... $7.50 per person??? WHAT? How is a child going to cost you more money? Then $2 per pet... How is a pet going to cost you extra money? If you have an extra car... $2 extra... but you have to squeeze it onto your TINY, narrow site even though there is parking directly across the site because it's for "tent camping" even though no one is parked there. We are already squished in here with neighbors nearly touching. Showers were NASTY. And the bathroom toilet stalls don't have doors, they have CURTAINS! The little pool is open from 10am-8pm which is silly. People like to get up early and go for a swim or after dinner. Laundry closes at 8pm. A train goes by really early in the morning with its horn blaring. I do NOT recommend this place. It's a joke. I've stayed at way nicer places in popular areas for MUCH less.

We stayed at Bear Canyon one night on our return trip from Glacier National Park. After a little confusion on how to get to the park (we got honked at while backing up since we overshot the road), we made it to the park. The park is pretty, it sits up on a hill with lots of trees, and pretty views all around. Our spot wasn't very level, but we made it work. Also, the sewer hook-up at our site was at the back of the site, so you need a really long sewer hose, or back-up your camper and empty your tanks (like we did) before leaving. There is some road noise, and the trains do go through fairly often, but overall we enjoyed our stay.

This is an excellent place to stay. I camped out in a tent on the grass and had a wonderful time. Some people complain about the train coming through but I'm from California and a train is much more pleasant to hear than helicopters, police and fire engines. I do recommend this place. I slept like a baby and they have showers and restrooms to use. Also they have free wifi.

Trains!!! All night long. Best sites are on the rim. The pull through are tight. Good place for kids. The pool is full of them. Laundry is ok. 1 machine was out of order.

We had tried a campground down the street and it was full for the night so they referred us here - and I'm so glad they did, because this was one of my favorite camp sites of our 2 week trip. We got a GREAT site with breathtaking views and a killer sunset. We accidentally went to the wrong site and when the girl came over to correct us, we told her we'd like to pay the difference for the better site because we loved the view so much. She was very nice about it and let us stay in the spot we loved without charging us extra. They have a store where my husband was able to buy a good bottle of wine and we had a perfect evening. Bathrooms were clean here too.

This is a pretty good RV Park to stay at when you're visiting Bozeman. It's not close to town, about 5 miles outside of town so make sure you have a vehicle to explore Bozeman in. You will hear some train noise at night and some Interstate traffic. The spaces are tight but they are full hookup pull-through. There is a very cool pool with a very large slide. The playground could be better but the bathrooms and showers are clean and well maintained. The WiFi here is lacking, it never worked very well but this is something we have came to expect from RV campgrounds. The cost to stay here is very competitive which helps us overlook some of the minor flaws. Will we come back? Yes. Would we recommend it? Yes. Informational: We travel in a 36' Class A RV.

Great views! Tent spaces are really small and on top of each other. Had a spot right under a road light so bright all night. Not to mention the traffic sound and also the train every hour honking there horn. Didn't get much sleep!

I give this 5 stars. Close to Bozeman, beautiful view of the surrounding mountains & a little trail behind the campground that allows you to get a beautiful view of the park. The staff was wonderful & even squeezed us in for a second nights stay when they were had no vacancy. The shop up front has the essentials & the pool is nice. It was very busy the couple days we were here but everyone was very pleasant & didn't feel crowded. The bear canyon trailhead Is about 3.6 miles away for anyone looking for a day hike. There is some road noise and a train that goes by, but you'll find that anywhere in Bozeman. Didn't even notice it after a few hours. Clean facilities. We had a very pleasant, comfortable, relaxing stay here at Bear Canyon.

This is an older park, with sites pretty close together and a bit worn down. The person that greeted us was very friendly and the store was decently stocked for a camp store. This is a great place for an overnight stay, but I don't think the train whistles would let me stay more than a night. This is kind of a hard place to find, we drove right past it, circled four miles around to the exact same spot until we noticed a tiny little sign for the camp. I saw some pretty decent sized rigs here so I think that even though the spots are close together, they are more than accommodating length-wise. A little tight getting in and out of the spots, but nothing too bad. The trains are really the main detractor from this, but you can't get away from them at any of the Bozeman RV parks from what I understand so apparently this is the best you will get. The train run pretty much all day and a good part of the night and it's pretty close to the camp. I saw plenty of people that seem to either live there or have camped for a good wile (our neighbor had been there a couple weeks), so trains don't bother everyone. Honestly the only really "bad" thing about this place is the trains. When reviewing a camp site I take into account how "nice" a place is to stay as well as everything else, the trains make this a bit less "nicer" than other places but doesn't mean the campground itself is bad. I do, however, think that $45 per night for full hookups at this particular spot was pretty high.

Horrible Customer Service! This campground is (was) our little weekend getaway spot since we live within 15 miles. I made reservations during our July 4 stay for three days in August for us and another family member. I visited with the office staff trying to figure out what sites we could reserve so we were together and also for us to be able to access our satellite television. After 15-20 minutes we finally agreed upon two sites close together that would accommodate our needs (38 ft fifth wheel triple slide and 26 ft travel trailer). When we arrived we were told that we were not in the sites that we had initially reserved and that we were as close as they could put us (4 sites away from each other). I told them that it was in the notes as to what sites we reserved and why which fell on deaf ears. I told them that we had better have satellite television in the site they put us. The person had no clue if we would get it or not. We pulled into our site which was not wide enough for our rig. We were within 18 inches from the trees when we pulled our slides, and we couldn't even pull out the awning because it was a tight fit. With that being said we are EXTREMELY unhappy with the service and (lack of) accommodations for a big rig.

The train is REEEEAAAALLLLYYYYY loud. So DO NOT get a space on the highway side. Having said that... the people who stay here are SO interesting and the people who work here are beyond nice. Best campground in the area. Just don't get a spot on the highway side unless you have windows and AC that lock out the sound!

Too crowded. ..sites too close. Women's toilets in restrooms only have curtains. ..no doors... restrooms are too far away except for tent campers. ..no cable TV as advertised on the RV Park app.. charge $10 extra if you come in before 1 o'clock or leave after 11 o'clock. .. charge $1 extra for each pet... beautiful view if you could see between the rigs. ..nice pool...would try another park next time

Very clean! Showers, restrooms, dog friendly/off leash area, there's a kids play area & a pool, also laundry. Tent sites are kind of small & close together but there's a great view. Only complaints are no fire pits & poor service. No numbers work to get ahold of the office & one day a young woman upfront was snotty & unprofessional. However, the next day another young woman was the host & she was awesome. Tons of kids were screaming constantly & out of control, she came over & moved them to the play area & checked up on them when they continued screaming too loud. There may be kids here that are loud but if you can get past all that- it's a beautiful park worth camping at.

A little pricy for the area! Nice green grass for sitting out with a picnic area. We haven't used the bathroom facilities or the pool. But the park is clean and neat. There are a few trashy trailers in the entrance area but the park is clean.

I've asked multiple times for the front desk staff to do something only to get passive aggressive disrespectful retorts. The immature youth that work front desk are not service oriented nor motivated to do anything other than sit on their asses. Rather than camp in the middle of a trash dump my wife and I picked up over a hundred cigarette butts and piles of micro trash around our site. I took to the front desk and show it to them and received a loud, aggressive, sarcastic response from the disrespectful, entitled teenage jackass in charge. If you don't mind dealing with the teenage staff, screaming highway noise, the daily train noise, uneven sites, filthy bathrooms, a very dated park, dog shit and/or micro trash all over your campsite, then this may work for you.

This review is from someone who made the mistake of staying here while in a tent. Perhaps if you are in an RV some of the issues I will mention below would not be such a problem. Originally planned to stay two nights but could only handle one night without sleep. The staff is friendly and the location/facility is nice enough. Also, the bathrooms were clean so that is always a good thing. However, if you stay there in a tent you will have some issues I think (We did!). 1. They put us right under a light post. I prefer not to sleep under lights... 2. It was like sleeping in a freight train depot. There was like 2-3 per hour all night long so it was a bit hard for me to sleep... 3. There was plenty of interstate noise and coupled with the train symphony it was just enchanting... NOT! Lastly, we had family who also stayed there in an RV at the same time and they said they slept ok (there are also old people). So perhaps that is the key for a good overall experience. Good Luck!

The campground is small and unattractive. It is next to the freeway with lots of highway noise and train noise throughout the day and night. The sites are small and very unlevel with coarse gravel. It appeared that there were full-time residences at the campground. There were many trailers that were old and cluttered. There is a small pool, but other than that, no other amenities. The shower houses were not comfortable and were musty. The staff was not friendly. Neither one of the two female staff members that we dealt with seemed to like their job. One wanted to up-charge us further after we already setup at the site. She was not able to produce any receipts for payments received to date. She stated that she did not have access to that information because our reservation was not put into the system. It was not a pleasant experience.

Friendly staff got us in a short notice. We were worried about the underpass but out BIG Motorhome fit fine. I will say the train is prominent and sounds all night. If you can try and get on the far side of the campground, it has beautiful views and maybe a little less train noise.

We paid in full in January. When we arrived they told us fees increased and we owe $x. We had our documentation showing we paid in full. Tried to force us to pay more.

We made reservations online a couple weeks before our trip to Bozeman. Within 15 minutes of making it, someone left a voicemail that they were cancelling our reservation and that they had no availability for the dates we had reserved. I spoke with someone named Kendall who then said that if we were willing to move sites the last day of our trip, they could accommodate us. I had told her that we had a 25ft truck and a 25ft camper trailer. When we arrived on Friday, she had us reserved in a 25ft truck camper space. The nice girl at the registration desk called the owner and they put us in a pull thru and had us move on Monday to another back in site. I thought everything was fine until we took our truck in to get the A/C compressor replaced after driving 2 days thru 100+ degree weather, and we weren't sure if we could get the truck back in time to leave as scheduled. I made the mistake of telling the young man at the counter that we may have a problem, and he said that he might be able to move our trailer for us if it came down to it to get it out of the rented rv spot. I came back an hour and told him our truck was done and there were no problems. Several hours later I got a message from a young woman telling me they were booked up and that I absolutely needed to get our trailer out by the next morning. I called her back and left her a message that our truck had been finished and that there was no problem and thanked them for their hospitality. We got home around 10:30 that night to find our picnic table missing which was strange. The next morning as we were hitching up our truck to leave, well before the 11:00am checkout time, 2 young women came and placed lawn sprinklers all around our trailer, actually spraying on our trailer as we were putting down the stabilizer jacks. My elderly disabled father who is partially paralyzed and legally blind from a stroke was soaked as he took down the stabilizer jacks and I got soaked picking up the boards beneath. I'm not sure what we did wrong to deserve this horrible treatment, but we will never return there. It's too bad because it is a beautiful campground. But they need grown ups working there running the business instead of children, or at the least some grown up supervision.

If you like train whistles every 30 min and freeway noise non stop then this is the place to come. The facility is nice with clean restrooms and grounds and also a great view from the top of the hill but the noise is very annoying.

Easy access off the freeway. RV pads are a little uneven, bring plenty of blocks. The staff is super friendly. Pool is clean and refreshing. The tent site are on a nice grassy area.

We live on the road with our business and stay in a different RV park almost every week throughout North America. This is a great campground, Nice location with a great view, deer close by. Clean bathrooms. Very friendly staff. We'll stay here again when we are in the Bozeman area.

Ok campground. Gravel roads and sites. Little tight, our site was tight and table right next to neighbor sewer drain. They did have a pool and free wifi, no cable. Got about 12 channels off antenna. No fire rings. Careful on interstate exit coming westbound. Underpass only 13' 3" clearance. I did not check out the bathrooms but others say they are good. We stayed one night in 40' 5th wheel.

Beautiful but so noisy! I could not sleep because there is a train that runs through there 4x a night! Also, they honked there horn 1,000 times when they pass by. If you are a light sleeper (like my sister) than DO NOT pay $32 to have NO sleep. And I'm done.

Terrible terrible service After traveling a full day only to find our new 5th wheel was too tall for the underpass to reach the campground We called for help We were told an alternate route but Kendall was unable to give directions Therefore we canceled and drove another two hours to KOA campground in another town. I received credit card bill only to find out charged anyway because not given 24 hour notice. Quite a ripoff!!! Terrible customer service Campground we never saw!! I would go elsewhere

Glad we stayed here! My partner and I needed a place to camp on our way through Montana. We booked a tent site for one night. When we checked in, the woman at the office said that we would need to pull our large truck towing a trailer to their extra vehicle parking area because it would not fit where we were reserved to camp. After expressing disappointment with having to keep our vehicles so far from our tent, we drove around the campground to see our site. Before we had made it around the block, the woman from the office called me and told me that she had spoken with the owner and found a solution that allowed us to camp right next to our vehicles!! I was so excited and grateful that she had gone out of her way to ensure a good experience for us. The campground has a great pet area, a nice store, very clean facilities, a pool, a barbecue, and a beautiful picnic area. It is surrounded by breathtaking scenery. We enjoyed an amazing sunset!! They have it all, and for reasonable rates. Would recommend, would return!

We stayed here in July of 2015 and we were not happy with our decision to stay here. We looked at the website and man oh man do they deceive you with pictures of the hill side behind the camp. The space we had for a 31 foot travel trailer with a slide out was not accommodating. We were not sure we were going to be able to open the slide all the way. Poor people to the left of us could not open theirs all the way. After traveling all day on the road and looking forward to getting out of the truck and stretching out a bit this is not the place to do it without bumping your neighbor. :-( When we left the next morning we were so grateful that no one camped to the right of us because we had to drive through that camp site to get out of ours. NEVER AGAIN.

Only here one night while on our way to Yellowstone. Lovely sites with shade trees creating privacy from neighbors. Did not use the pool but looked like fun. Grounds well kept and everything was clean. Friendly staff and good rates earn this a return visit when in the area.
