BEAR Steak Sandwiches

The sandwich had a very spicy kick that was totally unexpected and the beef was exceptionally tender. Everything was tucked into a fresh, crusty, perfectly sized bun that held up beautifully. The fries were excellent, crisp and salty. At $20 for the sandwich and $30.51 total for one person (no beverage), it’s not cheap, but the quality absolutely justifies the price. This is the kind of meal you remember afterward, and I would definitely return. Unfortunately, they had no Craig's cookies.

During our visit we got the original steak sandwich and the tallow fries. The sandwich was great, the chimichurri added a good kick and added a lot of flavour. The steak was cooked to a nice medium rare, and was cut up so it wasn’t too hard to chew. The bread added a nice crunch, and the dipping sauce helped to complete the sandwich! The fries were good, crispy, and delicious. No ketchup, but they’re great without it anyway. The service was good, very kind and welcoming and had our sandwiches out in 10 minutes or so. No indoor seating here, there are a few benches to eat outside. Overall the food was great and I would come back for the sandwich again.

Stopped by Bear Steak Burgers on College Street after hearing all the hype. The space is small but trendy — cool concept where you can’t request ketchup or well-done meat. I tried the Original Steak Sandwich, Cheeseburger, and Fries cooked in beef tallow. The steak sandwich had great flavor from the chimichurri and bread, but the steak itself was a bit chewy. The cheeseburger was cooked well but didn’t have much depth of flavor — it felt plain and was missing the white onion that was supposed to be on it. The fries were crispy but incredibly salty, which took away from how good they could have been. Overall, it’s a fun spot to check out at least once. You can tell they care about quality ingredients and keeping the menu straightforward, but it just didn’t wow me. I’d come back to give it another try though — maybe I’ll have better luck with a different sandwich.

I tried their original steak sandwich and I thought it was good but not GREAT. There were a handful of bites that were too chewy, where I had to just swallow entire pieces of steak. And it wasn’t cheap either (approx $24 after tax and tips). That said, the chimichurri sauce was the best part about the sandwich, it was flavourful. Again, overall, it was good, but not exactly something I would go out of my way to eat again.

Honestly, this place is not the fanciest, most well-decorated place for a hangout, but oh my it sure was memorable for me. Tiny humble store, with a just as cute menu, and there is barely seating spot. However, if the bench outside is available, that is the perfect setting, speaking from personal experience. Sorry for the yapping but here are my thoughts of the sandwiches. The steak sandwich, what I came for, was great. Tender meat on crunchy bun, with the chimichurri, though a bit oversalted for my taste. The roast pork, comes with some stock on the side for dipping. Immaculate, just slightly messy to eat, part of the experience amirite :) And my favourite, the cheeseburger. DUNK IT IN THE SAUCE THAT CAME WITH IT, NOWWW 🗣🗣 Maybe I really like the burger cuz that is not something I try often, especially for thick patty ones, but for now, BEAR will be the place for my craving!

This spot lives up to the hype, the Portuguese bun is soft and fitting for the sandwich, the steak is tender and full of flavour and the chimichurri adds a nice touch to this delicious sandwich. Worth coming back to, worth trying if you haven’t yet. I have to return to try some of their other offerings.

BEAR Steak is 1 of many hidden gems inside the Wellington Market, inside the Wall center. Highly recommend you try their sandwiches, this pork & broccoli rabe sandwic was amazing! Staff were friendly, food came out quick & it is tasty, the OG. dip is a great idea!😋

The most divine steak sandwich ever! So tender and juicy - and that chimichuri, yum! The pork sandwich was also really tasty, especially with the jus for dipping. And the fries, double fried in beef tallow -- hello! So much goodness. We were very impressed with BEAR Steak Sandwiches and can't wait to return. Still dreaming about that steak sandwich, tbh.

Hands down to their sandwiches! I came in with low expectations, but honestly I'm so impressed by the quality and amount of meat they give in their sandwiches! The meat was nice and flavourful, and their dip was heavenly! Parking can get a little busy on College, but you can try for the paid parking nearby or the side streets (Max: 2 hours).

Amazing steak sandwich. It's the only thing you need to get on the menu. The fluffy bread, the tender steak, and that savoury sauce - chef kiss! We tried the pork one and although it was good, the steak was better. No tables, only take out which makes it hard to enjoy fresh. I do feel it's on the pricier side of a sandwich. Not a daily ordeal, better for a treat.

I've been yearning to try out this place and I finally did. Got the original steak sandwich because that's what they're known for. The beef was tender -- cooked to a medium (how I like it) and the bun was toasted but soft (it won't scrape the roof of your mouth). Overall a good sandwich, try it out and see if you like it!

Honestly don't really get the hype around this place - I thought it was just okay. The sandwich itself was a lot smaller than I thought and there wasn't much steak in it. I thought the steak tasted good, but the roast pork was not good at all in my opinion - we couldn't even finish it. Overall, not worth it

I've had their steak sandwich before, and when I heard BEAR added a cheeseburger and golden fries to the menu, I knew I had to check it out. The shop itself is small, with only a bench outside if you want to sit and enjoy your food on the spot, but that doesn't stop it from being one of the most popular spots in the city. They have a simple menu featuring just a few items, and the staff are a friendly bunch! There usually not a huge line as they have online orders and also once you are paid, you will be waiting outside the shop and the food will be brought out to you with a smile! The cheeseburger was incredible. The medium-rare chuck patty was so juicy and thick, packed with flavour in every bite. I'm not usually a fan of fries, but their golden fries? Crispy and fried in beef fat--they were so good I couldn't stop eating them! I even grabbed an extra burger to bring home to my mom, and she loved it just as much as I did. She kept raving about how juicy the burger was and how thick the patty tasted. After trying both the steak sandwich and now the cheeseburger, BEAR has officially won me over. If you haven't tried their new cheeseburger, you're missing out!

Bear Steak lives up to the hype and serves delicious sandwiches. We got the steak sandwich and cheeseburger as recommended by staff, and they did not disappoint. The steak sandwich was tender, juicy, and packed with flavour thanks to the chimichurri - be earned though as there is a kick to it and can be considered spicy for those who have a low spice tolerance. The burger was also tender, cooked to medium rare, and good plain or dipped in the sauce that accompanied it. I would have enjoyed the food more if there was place to dine, even if it was a couple bar stools at the window. Also wish the burger came with grilled onions and cooke a little more as it was just a tad rarer than medium rare. All in all, I still enjoyed it and will definitely be back!

Amazing steak sandwich in the city at BEAR Steak Sandwiches! The meat was SO juicy good. The bun was soft on the inside and lightly crisp on the outside. The flank steak is sous vide for 2 hours and grill to medium-rare perfection, comes with a housemade chimichurri (a tad spicy!), and sandwich between a pillowy papo seco a aka traditional Portuguese roll from Golden Wheat Bakery down the street.

Tried the original steak sandwich which was pretty solid with a soft and slightly crusty Portuguese roll, tender medium fank steak and chimichurri sauce. The sandwich ate well but I did find it to be overly salty for my taste.

I was having dinner and my friends mentioned this place. Just a sandwich is all this place is about like the move "The Bear" which I love. So with their reviews - off I went. I thought the original steak sandwich was delicious! I inhaled it. I shouldn't have done that. Take my advice, eat and savour your bites. It's worth it. Flavourful chimichurri and medium rare beef On my next trip, I'll try their other option - roast pork. Uber friendly customer service here! Can't say enough how friendly they are! Definitely, happy to have tried it!

**This review was originally written in Jan of 2024 and I totally forgot to post it** Yes .. YEs . YES!!! I love coming to Canada to eat and a trip to Bear Steak Sandwiches did not disappoint!! My husband and son heard about Bear Steak and I knew we had to have it. The store itself is super small so we ended up eating in the car. We enjoyed our sandwiches so much, we all went back for more!! My husband and I thought the fries were alright, my son wanted to try fries that were fried in tallow and he enjoyed it. Wishing Bear Steak Sandwiches continued success!!

I've been waiting to try this spot out. They offer 3 sandwiches. Really small menu, like three things and some desserts. It tasted great, the steak was good, bun was good, chimichurri good - but I think it is overpriced! Almost $20 for a sandwich. The portion is good for one but I think you'll still be hungry after kind of situation. It was nice to try for the one time but not sure how often I'd want to get it again. Small little pick up store, a bench outside, nice workers.

Had to come here after seeing some of the gram pics. Medium rare beef, lots and lots of beef. This is a small shop for pickup only and it will take approx 10 minutes for your sandwich to be ready. There are only two options on their menu, so you know they've perfected the two items. Roast beef sandwich - I was looking for a good sandwich shop since clubhouse closed down and I think this is the one! The beef was so juicy, so tender. The bread was fresh and fluffy. The sauce like a chimichuri oil, it was great/perfect pairing. Would recommend and already craving another one.

I went to the Bear Steak Sandwiches restaurant since the restaurant is viral on TikTok. The restaurant is a small place with no seating. I ordered the steak sandwich with fries and a coke in a bottle. It took around 15 minutes to get my sandwich and I waited outside. I have to eat my sandwich on the sidewalk which is hard to do in winter. The steak sandwich was pretty good. The fries were awesome. I give Bear Steak Sandwiches three stars because there is no seating and the food was very expensive.

We were actually on the way to a different restaurant when I casually mentioned that I was in the mood for a really good sandwich. And so it was that we veered away from our original plan and made a beeline to Bear Steak Sandwiches. I'd heard a lot of positive things about their food, so I was more than happy to head on over. I knew going in that I obviously had to get their Original Steak Sandwich ("Flank Steak, Housemade Chimichurri, Papo Seco"). It was ready about 10 minutes later, so we headed back to the car to chow down. This is one incredible sandwich. The flank steak is super tender and super tasty, while that housemade chimichurri is just bonkers in terms of flavor. (In fact, I bought a whole jar to take home.) The whole thing is tied together beautifully with that soft Portuguese roll. I can't imagine ever eating a better steak sandwich. This is as good as it gets.

I don't understand the hype with this place and I can't accept that you are charging 20 dollars for one sandwich you can get a 12 inch for less than that at subway. I ordered the original steak with flank steak, house made chimichurri, papo seco, the bread was crunchy and the sandwich had heat in it, but I can't fathom paying 20 bucks for this. The steak was okay, bread was crunchy, and chimchurri sauce was nice and sandwich came pretty quick. I wish they gave more meat or made the sandwich bigger, I can't see people buying this sandwich for 20 bucks it doesn't make sense to me at all.

This place has a pared down menu, but there don't seem to be many gains from specialisation. They get 2.5 stars. Steak sandwich was good. The meat was tender with a nice sear. The chimichurri sauce was tasty & pretty strong. While pretty tasty it was small for the price. Roast Pork sandwich was so so. The pork itself was tasty & juicy but the rapini didn't go with it & the provolone cheese was not melted.

It's picnic season again!! I absolutely love Bear's sandwiches!! The buns are soft, meat is melt in your mouth and the service is excellent!!

I'd always love to have a good steak sandwich. The online algorithm knows that well, so it bombarded with content by BEAR Steak Sandwich since months ago on TikTok, Instagram, etc. I finally had the chance to visit it today (Jan 27, 2024); the experience was mediocre. I had the steak sandwich and an order of fries. I got to say I was expecting a lot more from the steak since it's their speciality. While the cut was great, I was not too fond of how it was cooked. When I have a nice steak, I expect a juicy, rare interior and a nice crust outside. BEAR's steak sandwich did not deliver as it was a bit overcooked to my liking (medium instead of medium rare/rare). The chimichurri had a nice kick to it, but something else was lacking and made the flavour profile underwhelming. I was talking to another patron, and they told me the BEAR steak sandwich could have used a bit of salt. With an additional slice of provolone, it may just work. The fries, on the other hand, were brilliant and somehow redeemed the steak. It was perfectly fried in tallow, so every fries in the box got that excellent flavour and crips. It would have made a perfect poutine. Last but not least, it's also overpriced (I paid almost 30 dollars for a sandwich and the fries). I understand since the ingredients are fresh and with inflation and all that, but it's still a bit too much for a takeout joint.

Bear Steak Sandwiches, located along College near Euclid, serves up a small menu consisting of 2 sandwiches (steak or pork) and sides as well as drinks. This business actually started amidst the pandemic, selling out at their popups. I've followed them on IG before they had a storefront to see if I could try to get my hands on one of their delicious looking steak sandwiches. Finally, after some time they opened a storefront in Little Italy. I tried going a week or two after they opened but the lineup (even before 12pm!) was too much for me. Now, they have online pre-ordering (via Ambassador) which saves the hassle of lining up or waiting (thank goodness!). I was able to try out Bear Steak Sandwiches on a Wed for lunch. I preordered a steak sandwich for pick up the morning of. Upon arriving at the store, I did have to wait a few min for my order to be wrapped up. There were other people who were waiting (assuming they had ordered in person) for their food. Since the store is so small it is best to preorder to avoid lines or long waits! As for the steak sandwich, I had to take a bite of this delicious creation as I found a park bench a few blocks down the street. Despite it being windy and cold I took a bite of the sandwich and was met with an explosion of flavours from the flank steak (which was cooked to perfection) and the chimichurri sauce (great spice and garlic flavours!) which was held together by the Portuguese roll. The steak juices were absorbed by the bread and the steak was tender and juicy. Great sandwich but I definitely could not finish it all for lunch. Service was friendly during my short time at the store, staff greeted me and also asked for my name as I had preordered. Overall, friendly service and a great spot for steak sandwiches. Give this place a 4.5/5!

Great place for a good sandwich! It's a small shop and it's take out only. When we went the fryer was down so we couldn't order fries ...which I heard from a friend are also good. We came and ordered one of each sandwich (don't worry lol it's only really 2 options- roast pork or steak) both were great! Meat was tender and moist. Bread was good to absorb. Service was quick even with all the people waiting. I would come again and hopefully I get to try the fries next time. I would recommend coming in early since once their sold out their done for the day.

It was a good experience, staff is friendly and will talk to you about their history if you ask. You can see them making the sandwich which is nice. I wish the size of the burger was bigger for this price. Steak was tender and sauce was on point.

Both the sirloin steak sandwich and the flank steak sandwich we had was really tasty, tender and super enjoyable. The sirloin special sandwich we had that weekend included a dipping sauce which was flavorful and delicious. The thick crusty bread goes perfectly with the steak

The hype is real and Bear Steak Sandwiches is the place to go. It started as a backyard pop up during Covid, making steak sandwiches to friends and family. People started clamoring for more and the once a week endeavor was not enough to appease them. They were finally able to get a physical location and it has been busy ever since. We managed to visit on NYE right after they opened around noon and there was no lineup. We bought the Original Steak Sandwich and the Roast Pork Sandwich. Those are the only two sandwiches that they offer. If you have to choose, go with their steak sandwich. It's not cheap but the portions of the steak and the chimichurri sauce makes it worthwhile. I liked the Roast Pork but I found it a bit underwhelming and the pork dried. Unfortunately, the fryer was out of service so I couldn't get their fries. The gentleman tending the order was very friendly and pleasant. The place is really small with no available seating area inside. There's a bench right outside at the front of the store that you can sit and eat. There are a few Green P and paid street parking available but it's easier to get there via public transit.

I was in the Chinatown neighbourhood when I realized that - with a little coordination, I could be one streetcar ride away from the Bear Steak Sandwiches spot - a place I'd bookmarked a few months back since it blew up on social media. How could I pass that up :) The storefront itself was cute and cosy, with very very limited seating (a little side ledge that could also double as a waiting area). There are only two regular items on the main sandwich menu - steak or roasted pork, and in my haste to secure the steak sandwich - I unfortunately completely forgot to ask about the special whoops. When all was said and done, I picked up my CAD18 steak sandwich takeout style and eagerly waited for my life to be transformed the entire commute home. Thankfully, Bear Steak Sandwiches did not disappoint. Was the steak sandwich a little expensive, especially in this economy? 100%. Was it still tasty? Absolutely. The steak was honestly better than steaks I've had in fancier sit-down restaurants - well-textured with none of that veiny/chewy nonsense you sometimes encounter with steak, and still with a good amount of satisfying bite. The chimichurri sauce - as other reviews have mentioned - was packed with spice and flavour. The sandwich was the perfect receptacle for the meat - on its own it probably would have been pretty unmemorable. BUT, as a receptacle for the juicy steak and flavourful chimichurri sauce - the bun helped balance the entire profile out. I don't know if I'd deliberately go out of my way to get the sandwich again, but if I'm ever in the area, I'd be more than happy to go back and try a few more things off the menu.

$20 steak sandwiches with no seating. Meat lacked flavour. Smoky interior with a payment machine that demands tips (again no tables, let alone table service). Eating your meal outside in the cold sucks.

Wow this place did not disappoint! Have been seeing this sandwich all over social media and i caved in to try it. The steak sandwich was so juicy and the chimichurri was out of this world! So flavourful and all the ingredients were fresh and made to order. I will come back for sure.

I think this place has done an excellent job with social media and giving influencers free food, etc. It's definitely not a life-changing sandwich. I got the special steak sandwich with stracciatella, lemon zest, basil, garlic oil etc and I think it sounded better than the original. The flavours were all there and the steak was cooked nicely but was a bit chewy- I definitely don't think it's a premium cut of beef. I wasn't upset about it but I wouldn't drive across town for it again.

I came here on a Wednesday around noon, which is about the time that they open shop. Already, there was a gentleman waiting outside the shop for his order as well as one inside. After placing my order, a group of 3 then two other gentlemen came - needless to say, this place gets very busy, especially with its small square footage. This spot has no dine-in seating, so it is strictly takeout which you can order via walk-in or their online ordering system. Their menu is very small, with their mains being their original steak sandwich and another which is with pork shoulder. Otherwise, they serve fries (which was unavailable today due to their fryer being broken and needing to be replaced) as well as pop (in glass bottles) and today, a limited selection of Craig's cookies! I ordered their original steak which is the item I had been seeing on instagram, the sole item that lured me here. Their sandwich is kept super simple like their menu, with their medium rare flank steak (cooked to perfection, very juicy and tender), their housemade chimichurri (which was flavorful and had the most subtle kick to it), on a Papo Seco (which I learned today is a Portuguese roll, so soft!) I read some reviews saying that they felt it wasn't salty enough and I beg to differ. All in all, the flavor profile was amazing. My one star deduction is really based on $18 being a bit steep for the size of the sandwich itself. Otherwise, the service was also great and friendly. I love their cute logo, and it appears they sell merch, t-shirts for $25 which is super cute too. Parking is all paid street parking, which was easy enough to find today but filled up quickly.

the sandwich is solid. I really liked the choice of bread they use and the sauce they put it. the sauce has a little bit of heat to it as well. the place is small so don't expect to dine in.

Sandos are fire there's no denying. If you do, you don't know quality. My only issue is for the price, I shouldn't feel like I can make it at home, which I'm pretty sure I can. Also I don't like the unpredictability of knowing/not knowing if they're open/sold out/etc. I want food when I want it.

We saw this on Instagram and had to give his place a try. Came by on a Saturday afternoon and there was quite a bit of people waiting outside likely for their food. We ordered and was informed there'd be a 30 mins wait and we ordered both sandwiches which are the steak sandwich and the pork shoulder one which came up to $38.50. The steak sandwich is $18-$19 I believe and came medium cooked, tender with chimichurri sauce on top on a baguette like bun. - the steak was cooked nicely and was really good but the portion of the sandwich is probably like 6 inches. The pork shoulder with rapini and provolone cheese is $16 and comes with a jus to dip. I can see why this one had it b/c it needs to have some of the beef flavour juice on the sandwich. The pork is tender, but a bit dry and the rapini had a neutral taste and the provolone cheese isn't melted or anything. Overall, the steak was better! The menu is probably the simpliest you can find anywhere. Two sandwiches, and the pork one usually sells out faster apparently.

starting off 2024 right with some carmy approved steak sandwiches!! the bread was fluffy and soft, not make the roof of ur mouth bleed type at all. I couldn't believe how tender the steak was, it literally took no effort to bite into! but the star of the show for me was the chimichurri, it adds amazing bite and spice to the sandwich. I could've used something with some acidity in the sandwich just to brighten it up :) service was quick and friendly, but the prices were sort of high for a sandwich, comes to about $20 after tax for just the sandwich on our menu: steak sandwich (8.2/10)

Guaranteed juicy steak in a freshly baked crispy bread (pls maybe sell the bread on its own??) with a very garlicy chimichurri. Only downside is there is nowhere to eat this amazing sandwich. And $18 + tax & tip is a lil much for a sandwich but hey satisfaction guaranteed!

A group of us were very excited to try the steak sandwich but ended up very disappointed. The meat on the $18.00 sandwich is tender but it is drowned in so much chimichurri sauce that even if you try and scrape off the overwhelming amount put on top of the meat, it still overpowers the sandwhich as that is all you can taste. It is such a limited menu, long term I don't understand how they can stay in business.

Best sandwich ive had. Would definitely recommend this spot. Service was nice. Only wish there was indoor seating. Cool lil spot w great sandwiches though.
