I really want to like this place, but after several comically bad experiences I am finally giving up.
The Bears Den is perfectly located in Dover-Foxcroft MAINE if you an outdoors person. They are located right on the main snowmobile ITS trail, and ATV trail systems. They have small cabins for rent, and a diner and full bar. The diner offers a full comfort food menu, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. On the weekends the bar has live bands, and sometimes Karaoke. They usually feature some of Maine's favorite bar bands.
I generally visit either with a snowmobile, or UTV, but have driven there to see one of my favorite local bands a few times.
I remember one time on a snowmobile trip the waitress didn't know how to use the cash register and even ask me if I knew how. I belligerently looked it over a bit and assisted.
Another snowmobile trip I let the waitress know I had 2 drinks and not one. If took her 20 minutes to figure out how to correct my bill. My party of 5 or 6 was the only customers that night.
During an ATV trip last spring my group of 4 experienced listening to the kitchen staff (one lady) and the 2 waitresses arguing. Our meal that night was undercooked.
Last weekend we stopped during a ATV trip and were basically ignored by the waitstaff. Super slow service, but the food was good.
Which brings us to today's visit. My wife, 2 of our friends and myself stopped during our latest ATV ride and it was quite the spectacle. They seemed to be busy, but not overloaded, I would say about 1/2 the seats were full with patrons in various stages of there meal. It took awhile for us to be greeted, the waitress even joked about us being ignored and left us menus. While waiting to give our order we witnessed a few occasions that people sitting together didn't get served together. The waitresses were openly complaining about the kitchen staff in front of us and the other people sitting at the bar, instead of offering to get our drinks or even order. We ordered an appetizer sampler, consisting of Wings, mozzarella sticks, and broccoli cheese bites. We asked to have the wings cooked extra, but they arrived cold and a little undercooked. But my broccoli and cheese bites were still frozen in the middles. The waitress took (without apology) them back and they were retried, returning with mixed results. 3 of them were almost perfect, but when I bit into a forth it was very cold and gross, I spit it into my napkin. The other couple we arrived with also ordered an appetizer combo and said it was piping hot. The whole time we were in our seats the waitstaff continuously complained and blamed missed orders and poor quality on the kitchen staff. One instance a patron flagged a waitress down to find out were his food was since the other person in his party was almost finished eating. She quickly came back with it. Which makes me question is that he kitchens fault or hers for not noticing the patron didn't have his food.
I suspect this place is poorly managed and will not improve. Our next trip to Dover-Foxcroft we will plan to eat at either Subway or McDonalds (which are both conveniently located off the trails)
