My husband & I were staying in the area and decided to check this place out for breakfast. The restaurant itself is a bit small & the menu is pretty basic. The table we sat at was sticky but service was relatively quick (we were the only people in the restaurant.) We ordered 2 coffees, 1 blueberry pancake, 1 order of biscuit and sausage gravy, and 1 side of bacon. Our bill was almost $34 which we both thought was incredibly pricey. We live in one of the most expensive states and I was shocked by the prices. The biscuit (which seemed homemade) and the pancake were both good but definitely not $34 good. The gravy that accompanied the biscuit was a bit odd, it was almost like cut up sausage patties which is unlike any other sausage gravy I have ever had. I wouldn’t say to avoid this place and cannot speak for the rooms itself but the food was relatively mediocre and expensive.

The service in the restaurant is not good third time we have been there still not good one waitress for the whole restaurant this last time was Labor Day. This time we did not stay waited for someone to show up at the bar one women walked behind the bar then left no hello or someone will be with you soon we are a little short handed she said nothing. We waited 10 more minutes no one showed up so we left will not go back.

We moved from New Hampshire to Maine and stayed in a cabin for 2 weeks until our place was ready. They switched people around so we could stay in the same cabin for the whole 2 weeks which was amazing. They are so friendly and accommodating at the restaurant and the cabins and the food was great. Not our first time staying here.

We have been to the Bears Den several times. We are regular ATVers and service can sometimes be slow there but our experience on this day was so bad we had to leave after 3 hours because we were never served . We sat around all afternoon and were never offered more than one single drink . It was admittedly busy when we first got there but by the time we left it was quiet. 30 minutes before we left we asked if our food was going to be served at any point and was told we should be next but after a half hour we just couldn't wait any longer . It was beyond reasonable

After checking out the website, we thought it was going to be a a quirky little Maine restaurant with what sounded like good food but when we got there it was pretty disappointing tbh. The decor was bear themed which was cute but it looked really old and dusty, the booths looked like they were homemade with just boards and screws and the table had that all over stickiness that comes with age. We each ordered the double smash burgers but we got them with the waitress telling us they didn’t have pickles because she guessed they were out. I’m sorry but there is a grocery store 200ft down the road…when I worked at a restaurant if we ran out of mushrooms or whatever, someone went to get enough to make it through the day at a local grocery store. The burger itself was a let down, I don’t think they really know what smash burger means because the patties were about 3” in diameter and were like hockey pucks. The fries were very lack luster. The waitress was nice and that was about the only good thing about the place.

Lovely local venue with a lot to offer. We ate in the restaurant, did not stay in the cabins, so can’t speak to those. I am told there are concerts here, as well as other gatherings. Food was good, service was very very good.

Google
Cute little place. Small restaurant area. Our server was super nice and very attentive. With the summer crowd looming, I can see why they would have signs indicating that it could take up to an hour for your food to be delivered. Probably lots of to-go orders from trail riders.

Google
Waited 45mins for a chicken salad sandwich and a BLT. Asked if it would be much longer and we were told it shouldn't be more than another 15 to 20 mins. We left as did three other tables. The cook could o ly work on one order at a time.

Yelp
6- bikes and what a great visit! Thank you so much for such a great visit! Stop and say hello! Full bar and good! Beautiful place to stay!

Yelp
Food was horrible. The chef used bare hands to handle food. Food was burned and dried. Ordered fried shrimp dinner and fried haddock dinner. Dried out and burned hard. Horrible. Did the price of $78 I would never ever go ther again. Just awful.

Yelp
It's 7pm on a Saturday night daughter and I are the only two in the dining room. This is our second visit and the food and service is stellar Looking forward to coming back.

Yelp
We came here for my wife's birthday. The service and the food was fine. Nothing to knock our socks off, but certainly no regret giving it a try. I ordered a lunch special of spaghetti and meatballs, garlic toast and a side order of onion rings that were generous and good. If I remember right my wife had eggplant Parmesan with the same result as mine, fine but not mesmerizingly so. We probably wont't return, not because we didn't like it at all, but mostly because there are so many untried restaurants and personal favorites out there as it is. So I still recommend it; it might become one of your favorites!

Yelp
My meal was alright, egg salad and onion rings. My son's steak was still mooing, even when sent back to cook more. He took it home for his brother to cook and eat. The atmosphere was good and our waitress was great. We did notice a band was getting ready to play, as they have a back room for entertainment. From most of the reviews, it sounds like breakfast is pretty good. If in the area for breakfast, we would probably stop by and try. Dinner, I think we might pass. But we always give second, usually three tries, as sometimes people, including chefs, have an off night. If we ever do, I will adjust my review

Yelp
We keep trying to give this place a chance. Food isn't great but the drinks are good. Interesting people watching but it needs some updating.

Yelp
I have eaten there several times. It's very greasy. Even the eggs were. Clean your grill

Yelp
Excellent service, Ron, and food. Onion rings are the best I've ever had. Sat on the Patio which was lovely.

Yelp
The people were great. Very friendly, Food was good in the restaurant and service was very good, which is why I gave them a 3 star. The cabins were fairly nice, UNLESS you are traveling with a pet. they have one "cabin" to accommodate pets. it is a room off the garage called "the cubby". It literally was just a cubby hole. just a few pegs to hang clothes or coats. barely room to walk around the bed. tv tray for end table. Bed was comfortable. the outside was nothing but a huge sandy, tiny gravel parking lot which sticks to your shoes and gets all over the floors in the room no matter how much you wipe your feet. we were going to stay 3 nights but left after the 2nd. we were there for a wedding so couldn't leave after the first night as there was no place close by available. if you don't have pets the cabins are nice and bigger, but if you have a pet you might want to look somewhere else. if I was rating on the "cabin" alone I would be giving them a 1 .

Yelp
The ambience is cozy, the service great and the burger and house made thin onion rings delicious. 2nd visit a week later I had the cheeseburger bomb - kudos for chunky fresh mushrooms. I rarely see that. My friend had the bison burger. Both were delicious and of course the onion rings are the best.

Yelp
Expensive!!! For a room that had hair and debris all over the sheets and blankets. The room was cute and nice and cozy but the sheets and blankets was not what I expected for what the room costs, There's no way the sheets and blankets have been changed since the last person stayed here. We come up to Dover once a year and I will not be staying here next year. My mom stayed in the cabin next to me and she did not have any complaints.

Yelp
Worst "food" I have ever had in my entire life, I have had better room temperature gas station sushi. Bread was moldy and tasted disgusting, the meatballs are last nights meatloaf and their corned beef has an after taste of up chuck. Waiter was extremely nice and extremely polite, inside was very country and kind of dumpy. Loud inappropriate conversations between staff, chef wasn't wearing a beard net and two females that worked there were clearly on something. STAY AWAY

Yelp
Visiting from DC, we stopped here for breakfast after a morning of hiking. I have a feeling this place is used to a more.. "rugged" clientele as the waitress seemed almost frightened to see us. Once we established we were not from the government, just two guys in collared shirts wanting breakfast, she was super nice. I had a HUGE apple cinnamon pancake which was one of the better pancakes I've had. Coffee was great too. Stop in if you can, they are really struggling out here with COVID19.

Yelp
We are frequent patrons of the restaurant and enjoy the home style cooking and friendly atmosphere.

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic place to stay. The owners of the motel Tavern Restaurant are super nice people. The staff is super friendly and very accommodating. I can't say enough good things about this establishment. If you're travelling through the Dover-Foxcroft area and have the opportunity to stay in one of the cabins or eat in the restaurant I highly recommend you do

Yelp
We walked in 10 minutes before closing when no other restaurants were open and they sat us with no questions, provided great service and delicious food, and did not complain once. Seriously some of the nicest people ever!

Yelp
Best breakfast in the area. Friendly and attentive staff. I always bring visitors here to experience the charm of the area. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
Great food and bar. Has entertainment most weekends. There are cabins for rent. Sled and atv trail go right through the yard.

Yelp
Rude , on the phone when asking for a 45 minute early check in. Arrived and the Waitress let us know our room is going to be higher because rates are now for one guest only . Add $10 for spouse, or cancel and they keep deposit. King bed, tiny room . #7. Door appears to have been kicked in many times. Repaired poorly. NEVER AGAIN . Didn't dare eat in restaurant after waitress slash check in person was peeved that I complained about rate. One tiny chair and a mini table , no room for 2 chairs and probably no care about quality. She knew in advance to warn about higher rate. Use to stay 2 or 3 times a year, lost a customer forever.

Yelp
I really want to like this place, but after several comically bad experiences I am finally giving up. The Bears Den is perfectly located in Dover-Foxcroft MAINE if you an outdoors person. They are located right on the main snowmobile ITS trail, and ATV trail systems. They have small cabins for rent, and a diner and full bar. The diner offers a full comfort food menu, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. On the weekends the bar has live bands, and sometimes Karaoke. They usually feature some of Maine's favorite bar bands. I generally visit either with a snowmobile, or UTV, but have driven there to see one of my favorite local bands a few times. I remember one time on a snowmobile trip the waitress didn't know how to use the cash register and even ask me if I knew how. I belligerently looked it over a bit and assisted. Another snowmobile trip I let the waitress know I had 2 drinks and not one. If took her 20 minutes to figure out how to correct my bill. My party of 5 or 6 was the only customers that night. During an ATV trip last spring my group of 4 experienced listening to the kitchen staff (one lady) and the 2 waitresses arguing. Our meal that night was undercooked. Last weekend we stopped during a ATV trip and were basically ignored by the waitstaff. Super slow service, but the food was good. Which brings us to today's visit. My wife, 2 of our friends and myself stopped during our latest ATV ride and it was quite the spectacle. They seemed to be busy, but not overloaded, I would say about 1/2 the seats were full with patrons in various stages of there meal. It took awhile for us to be greeted, the waitress even joked about us being ignored and left us menus. While waiting to give our order we witnessed a few occasions that people sitting together didn't get served together. The waitresses were openly complaining about the kitchen staff in front of us and the other people sitting at the bar, instead of offering to get our drinks or even order. We ordered an appetizer sampler, consisting of Wings, mozzarella sticks, and broccoli cheese bites. We asked to have the wings cooked extra, but they arrived cold and a little undercooked. But my broccoli and cheese bites were still frozen in the middles. The waitress took (without apology) them back and they were retried, returning with mixed results. 3 of them were almost perfect, but when I bit into a forth it was very cold and gross, I spit it into my napkin. The other couple we arrived with also ordered an appetizer combo and said it was piping hot. The whole time we were in our seats the waitstaff continuously complained and blamed missed orders and poor quality on the kitchen staff. One instance a patron flagged a waitress down to find out were his food was since the other person in his party was almost finished eating. She quickly came back with it. Which makes me question is that he kitchens fault or hers for not noticing the patron didn't have his food. I suspect this place is poorly managed and will not improve. Our next trip to Dover-Foxcroft we will plan to eat at either Subway or McDonalds (which are both conveniently located off the trails)

Yelp
Their homemade hot sauce is smoky, thick and spicy! We had the tuna melt served on a thick slice of their also homemade bread=delicious with thinly sliced pickles and a huge pile of tuna salad . We also had their chicken tenders which had a crunchy breading , very good! And the steak sub with onions peppers cheese and mushrooms - look out S.Philly!

Yelp
Probably the worst service I've seen in a restaurant/ bar in my life and I have traveled the world and country as a veteran and travel nurse. So far, all three meals, the server has been so rude. Slamming drinks down, getting upset when someone doesn't answer fast enough or if they don't hear her. People's orders got lost in the shuffle multiple times, so someone didn't get their food until everyone else was done eating. We had a large party booked weeks in advance and they were still severely understaffed and undermanned. The food was good, but it was coupled with the worst service ever. The worst part is the owner's family was there and didn't care at all. That's not all though! There was a potato chip in the bed when we pulled the blankets back and one of the other beds had dirt on the sheets. They clearly don't change linens after each stay.

Yelp
This place rocks! We ate breakfast here two times and came back for dinner & drinks at the bar later. The staff is really friendly and very accommodating. I even had a problem with my last meal and the waitress was great about removing it from the bill. The onion rings are second to none as well as the buffalo chicken tenders, mushroom appetizer, burgers & burger bomb! We cant wait to come back!

Yelp
We ended up here while looking for a Fed Ex drop box and I am glad we found it. Maine is such a breakfast town and there is a Mom and Pop place almost on every corner. This place doesn't have a menu and only goes by daily specials so you know the food is fresh but I hope you go on a day where they're making French Toast. They cook it using thick slabs of Texas toast and they cover it with an over medium egg and a healthy serving of cinnamon and sugar. We also got the mushroom and 'mater omelet and biscuits and gravy. This place definitely is easy to miss as it is right in front of some tiny hunting cabins but it is worth a stop if you're looking for comfort food.

Yelp
Ate here, two different times, first time was wonderful. The food was spectacular and the service was 5 star. I was amazed to be able to find a place that felt like being at home and taste like im eating mamas home cooking. The second time turned me away, the staff was talking very vulgar and the food was not good, heres the problem, i ordered the exact same thing. What happened, did i walk into an alternate demention? Well, i wont be coming back....i only came here for breakfast so i dont know about lunch or dinnertime.

Yelp
I'm rating this place on breakfast and the room we stayed in. The room was spotless we were in the new building at the back of the lot in a bottom room, not sure how the other cabins are they look a little older from the outside. The breakfast was fantastic! Got the skillet breakfast with a homemade biscuit, hands down best breakfast I've ever had. Full of flavor and everything I could ever want in my breakfast. Eggs, bacon, potato, onions, peppers, cheese and more! Biscuits were homemade and could see them taking them out of the oven. Overall love this place will deff be back.

Yelp
First time eating here. Rode in by snowmobile..love that feature! Service was very quick, food was great! Love the atmosphere...food priced very cheap and served very promptly. Will come back again if we're ever up here snowmobiling again!

Yelp
Great and only place to eat a full breakfast in Dover

Happy C.

Yelp
My first time here. We stayed here to go snowmobiling. Trail was right outside our cabin. Cabins were cute and warm. Water hot and pressure good. Breakfast was super reasonable and delicious. People awesome and friendly. Would definitely stay here's again.

Yelp
Fish burger was quite tasty and the onion rings are top notch. The bear paw burger is not for the light eater.

Yelp
We recently were up in Maine for a funeral with our entire family. We stopped into the Bears Den and loved it! It made a sad night into a happy one. I felt bad walking in with 13 people but they were so welcoming! The server was awesome and so much fun! Food was amazing! My only regret was staying at a different hotel. ..really wish we stayed here in one of their adorable cabins. We definitely will next time! We almost drove an hour back in the morning for their pumpkin french toast! Thank you again so much:)

Yelp
We stayed here on a work trip 2 nights, we had 2 meals at the restaurant, the breakfast we had was good (sausage and gravy) came back here for dinner we both ordered steaks, one was VERY gristley, the other was over cooked. As far as the nights, we had room 8 in the "newer" bunk house, the room is very small, has 1 king size bed and a bunk with a double as the bottom, the room had stains in the bathroom, there is no insulation to speak of, so we got woken up by the people upstairs many times as well as the people from the bar that is the same parking lot. 2nd night, we come in and they didnt even touch our room, so we had to get towels from the main office ourselves, they did not give us a discount, and tried to blame us for them not cleaning it. We work around this area from time to time and they have lost our business.

Yelp
Daily specials are great! I recommend the chicken pie (Thursday special) Funny decor and happy staff. I eat there often and always have more on my plate than I can finish! Great value for good food. Locals are always there!
