This place is so beautiful! You can only reach it and move around by car, but you will be immersed in a wonderful garden/rainforest, in total peace. The room was clean and comfortable for my staying!

Booked with Booking.com but missed review deadline. Location not far away from shops, restaurants & grocery. Staying a little ways the island up equals cooler nights for sleeping. Kitchen has everything you need for cooking & cleaning. Washer and dryer located on property. We splurged for Plumeria Suite, 2nd floor w/ ocean views and I nice covered balcony to sit and enjoy a meal or sunset. Beach chairs ands towels provided as well! Would return!

I came to the Big Island solely to scuba dive for several days in conjunction with a work trip on Oahu. Bear's seemed to fit the bill based on distance from the airport and proximity to the diving boat slip. The owner was very personable and left a hand-written welcome note. The room was clean and completely functional for my purpose. I have no complaints. 5/5 would stay here again if I ever come back for a dive trip.

Accommodated us twice last minute, wonderful host Nanette goes above to help! Appreciate her and the kind service. Clean room, nice area, safe, 10 minutes from airport. Beautiful balcony view and kitchen available.

I paid and was confirmed to extend another day, Nanette was extremely rude she kicked me out saying that she didn’t approve for me to stay there and that it wasn’t her fault even tho I showed her my confirmation number she had double booked another person so she kicked me out. I explained to her that I had an autistic kid 7 year old and 8 year old and she was heartless, she told me “saying that your kid is autistic isn’t gonna help you” I asked if she knew an affordable place I could stay at and she told me I don’t know you have to get out now! Luckily my husband booked us a resort where we enjoyed the rest of our vacation.

The checkin was very well organized. Nanette left us a lovely message with the info where to find the key. Bears Place is a very well located and clean guest house. Our room was very large with a spacious terrace. There is a small kitchenette in the room with everything you need for a simple menu. All utensils were very clean and in good condition. There is even a laundry room where you can wash and dry your clothes for 5.- USD per wash. Everything has been thought of. We felt very comfortable and can highly recommend it. Free parking is also available

We stayed in the Ginger Room on the first floor for 3 nights. PROS: No cockroaches or other vermin (ok, there was 1 spider), quiet/safe neighborhood, off street parking, plush toilet paper, cooler and beach towels provided for guest use, easy check in and check out even tho we arrived very late, the lush forest made the place feel very secluded from the neighborhood, laundry room available, convenient location, affordable, hot showers, and the hosts are not intrusive - in fact, we never meet them, CONS: The smell of mold is overwhelming. No HVAC in the building, so the only air movement was a ceiling fan and opening windows or the sliding door to the lanai; however, the screen door to the lanai was bent, so critters could get in if you left the glass door open. The bathroom towels and tub had hair on/ in them when we arrived. The bedding is not white, so you know it's not being bleached, which grosses me out. The bed and pillows were not very comfortable and the couch was worse. The tub didn't drain well. The coffee machine kept tripping the outlet breaker every 15 seconds so we couldn't get a full pot brewed. The walls are very thin so we could hear everything the other guests were up to. OTHER: The coqui frogs sing all night. It's exotic and fun, but I needed earplugs to sleep. My husband loved them, tho! Neighbors also have roosters that start crowing early. We only slept there; leaving each morning and returning late so it worked for us. But if you tend to hang out at your hotel a lot, you might not like this.

We stayed in the Orchid suite for a week in January. The suite is as pictured.|Pros:|Large lanai with nice views to the ocean|Lovely sunsets sitting on the lanai|Spacious room with high ceiling|Nicely equipped with cooking implements in a large kitchen. Also supplies salt n pepper shakers, sugar.|Great coffee provided|Good wifi|Washer and dryer downstairs which I never used ($5 charge)|Beach towels and chairs |Free parking|Reasonably priced for the area||Cons|As mentioned you need a car…there is nowhere to walk. Guesthouse is down a very steep, bumpy road off the Belt Rd. About 20 minutes to town. (Closer to the airport)|Its in a neighborhood with all the neighbor noises…dogs barking incessantly in the early mornings and evenings. Neighbors talking loudly and neighbors working on their yard, so not a quiet, peaceful location.|Depending upon other guests you may hear them as sound carries from other units in the guesthouse.|Bed soft|No local info provided. Nothing on sites or restaurants or maps. |||

Yelp
We paid and were confirmed to stay there and they kicked us out with kids and one of them with special needs, we weren't even there so we weren't breaking the rules, she booked other people and kicked us out even though we had payed. We showed her the confirmation and all she said that it wasn't her fault and she said to get out, she also said saying your son is autistic isn't gonna help you. She was heartless and stole our money. It was hard to find another place because one of the tours I booked stole a thousand dollars that we could have used to get another place to find.

Yelp
My BF and I stayed in the Hibiscus Room back in May 2011 and had a great experience except for one major thing, which cost -1 star to my review. Review for HIBISCUS ROOM (5 STARS): We loved our room! Despite the thin walls that separate us from the bedrooms around us, our room was spacious, clean, with a semi-private lanai (curtain separates us from our neighbor's lanai), The room had ALL the amenities we needed! Couch, small dining table for two, beach supplies, TV, coffee maker, microwave, free internet, small portions of fruits/muffins/bagels, etc. So overall, our room experience was great. Also, there is free parking. Major BOOBOO from Nanette (one of the owners and probably the only one you'll be seeing) (-1 STAR): Beware she comes in your room when you are out and about. It was sweet at the beginning because she leaves little treats (chocolates, cookies) but then it's very uncomfortable because we felt like we lost some privacy. She knocks very loud and fast and if you don't open promptly, she'll use her master key to open the door assuming we are out. What if I was butt-naked and didn't want to open? Or we were leaving our suitcases or private stuff out in the open? She is the owner (along with her mama) so she has the right to come in and out as she pleases but may be a little notice on the contract or welcome binder saying "Hey, FYI - I may come in once a day to leave treats for you inside your bedroom, whether you are in or not." In summary, I'd stay here again, I'll just be aware and vigilant that we may not have that 100% privacy. Plus, walls are very thin, so if you are a couple, just beware and consider this B&B as if it your auntie was sleeping right next door to your bedroom...
