Bearslake Inn

I rarely write a review unless I’ve been asked to but after visiting last night I feel compelled to give credit where it’s due. It was in fact the recommendation of a member of staff in the travel lodge that led my father and I here for food, so was a lucky find. Firstly, what an incredible building. Between the thatched roof, thick stone walls and low ceilings the place is full with character. Secondly the staff were so unbelievably conscientious. We are sticklers for manners in our family and we were attended to beyond our expectations. The team are a credit to you, clearly influenced by the head chef who was also prioritising out service when passing our table. Incredible and so rare. The food then was outstanding, we had the sourdough, fish and chips and sausage and mash, the names were far more appealing than that and I have not done them justice but that is essentially what we had, just in a very high end version. That said, we found the prices to be fair and worth every penny. A perfect chance find. Keep it up guys, you’re clearly making a massive effort, not everyone will always appreciate it because that’s just people, but to those that do will remember and keep coming back.

Our stay at Bearslake Inn was absolutely perfect! From the moment we arrived with our little dog we were made to feel so welcome. The staff were fantastic and incredibly friendly. We had a lot of fun chatting to them and appreciated the time they gave us. Our room was warm, cozy and clean and had extra touches that we really appreciated, from a little bag of dog treats and and extra blankets for him to use to a thoughtful card acknowledging the reason for our stay. We had dinner and it was delicious!!! The truffle fries are a big standout. The breakfast hamper was really well stocked with great options and it was nice to have breakfast in bed (although our room had a sofa if you’re not inclined to eat in bed). We can’t wait to return and spend more time explore the surrounds.

Booked here to meet family as a half-way point. Didn’t disappoint. The pub and restaurant are beautifully maintained and decorated. We ordered roasts - more food than we could handle. Four empty plates BUT THE CAULIFLOWER CHEESE WAS THE BEST I HAVE EVER TASTED!!!!!! I return with my partner as soon as I can.

Wonderful hospitality and the food is absolutely outstanding. What a gourmet treat. Chef Tommy is top class and can provide delights for all tastes. It was a privilege and a delight to have been a guest in his restaurant. Vegetarians will be as delighted as anyone else. A visit to the restaurant is a must for food lovers and connoisseurs alike. I wish these guys all the success they really deserve.

Bears Lake Inn, you’re absolutely amazing ❤️ Me and my Fiancé have just had a wonderful meal here. The menu is fantastic and the staff are so friendly and welcoming. The Cheff Tom and the waitress Sue and the waiter Sam are so brilliant/wonderful. We would like to recommend the Bears lake Inn to anyone wanting that romantic evening out for dinner. ☺️

My husband and I stayed at the Bearslake Inn on a one night stop over. We also ate here in the evening. The food was really nice. Homemade tartar sauce, lovely fish and chips and a good wine selection. The puddings were also really nice. I liked the old feel of the pub area, gave it lots of character. The rooms however weren't so great. They were very tired and in need of updating. I understand this is an old building, but there was mould in the bathroom around the grout, paint peeling off the radiator and the cold tap only dribbled with water. The walls were paper thin (you could hear people eating in the pub downstairs and hear their conversations word for word) and the mattress had a broken spring. The breakfast hamper was very nice and came with lots of options, however an additional £25 for a continental breakfast on top of the room rate (hot sandwiches were an additional fee again) was rather steep. Overall, I would recommend the pub for drinks and food, but not so much for an overnight stay. It was quite overpriced for what it was. It certainly isn't 4 star accommodation.

We stopped in after the Devon trail races half marathon for some bar food and a pint. The staff were super friendly, helpful and attentive, the service was quick despite them saying they were quite busy and the food was delicious. All the starters were vegan too which was a bonus, along with the very cute thatched roof! Would highly recommend!

Lovely staff and setting but really overpriced food. And not much of it. It's pretty disgusting having to pay for vegetables and a bit of mash on top of a £20+ main in my opinion. We were staying for a birthday and they also wanted to charge £3.50 per person because we had brought a cake. The breakfast is very confusing and also an additional charge. I didn't want to pay nearly £40 for a continental for me and my children (there was no option for a kids smaller and cheaper priced breakfast) Shame as would have come back on account of the lovely setting and the staff but who ever is deciding the prices is just greedy.

Great pub with lovely food. The garden is absolutely gorgeous and has a nice stream at the bottom of it. It's a nice place to stop if you are riding your bike along the Granite Way. Bikers in muddy clothes and children are welcome!
