In town for the night and with not a lot of options, thought we’d give this place a try.
First, the atmosphere was awesome. We sat outside and it was very quaint and charming. A beautiful night, lots of locals, and great conversations. Our waiter promptly greeted us and we ordered a beer and a glass of Pinot Grigio.
Looking at the menu was like sticker shock, everything was very expensive. I decided just to have their nachos and my husband had a sirloin steak meal. The dinner salad was so good, we ordered honey mustard, which was obviously homemade. The sirloin was not so good, it lacked flavor, very bland. It came with a baked potato, butter was provided, but no sour cream wasn’t offered. My nachos were not good, it was just a pile of store bought chips with melted cheese and green chilis. I paid 2.00 to add a side of sour cream, this brought the cost to around $17, so not worth it. I ate a few chips and asked for a box, blah!
I ordered some desserts to go, a sour cherry tart and a slice of poppyseed rum cake. I didn’t ask for the cost, and was again in sticker shock when I got the bill. The cake was 10.95 a slice! The tart $8.95! I have to say the rum cake was the best we’d ever tasted and I d pay that much again, it was THAT good. The tart was yummy too, but not worth the price.
For one steak dinner, an appetizer of nachos, 2 desserts, 1 beer, and 1 glass of wine our bill was over $100. The overall experience was nice, so we have that for the memory book, but the prices, yikes! For a place that sells itself as a locals cafe, this was a bit much. If we are passing through again, I’d stop for the poppyseed rum cake, maybe a salad with that honey mustard, and some drinks on the patio, but skip the dinner.
Side note… This town has no cell service, which means Wifi access is important to many customers. This cafe does not offer wifi. Not a huge deal, but if you go expecting it, it’s not available.
