Beary Best! Hostel Chinatown

Amazing hostel, super comfy beds and nice common area. Has a microwave and fridge to make food which is nice. The Chinatown MRT is directly opposite which was amazing and so easy to get to and from the airport. The staff were amazing and able to check us in early which was great. Only complaint would be the lockers under the bed need to be taken all the way out to use and make a lot of noise as they are metal like the bed. It was hard to be quiet and we had an early flight.

At first, the hostel seemed like a budget-friendly option, but the price nearly doubled, even after the weekend, with no clear explanation. The bathrooms were a complete disaster—most of the locks were broken, so people kept accidentally walking in on each other during showers. The air inside was so stiflingly hot and humid, it felt like stepping into a sauna, and I’d come out sweating like I’d just run a marathon. To make matters worse, there was barely any hot water. The only shower that offered hot water required you to keep the water pressure extremely low, making it almost impossible to take a proper shower. On the plus side, the staff was quick to respond to any issues I raised, the place was very clean, and the location couldn’t be better. That said, some rooms face a busy road, so the noise from traffic can be pretty annoying. If the price is low, it might be worth it, but at higher rates, you’re better off finding somewhere else.

Just don’t go there. The bed are really not comfy, i could’nt even be sit and not touch the roof with my head. It is not really clean and they have a weird old kindergarden decoration… The biggest problem is that they are really not organized with the bed bookings and they offer self checkin at night, so people come in and out of the rooms at every hour with no respect of noise and lights… There is also no fun vibe. Just go somewhere else

One of the staff (guy) was not being friendly at all (11th Oct 7am). When asked questions he answered without patience and showing face. I understand working the night shift might not be the best but yeah guests did nothing wrong when just asking you some simple questions. Nonetheless, the next staff (guy as well) I met the same day around 12pm was super friendly and helpful. One thing to mention is that the staff were not always at the reception which was not convenient and when called they wouldn't answer, so need to text them via WhatsApp. The response was not the fastest tho, so you'll need to have some patience for checking in lol. The toilet and room I got were quite clean. The aircond was working very well and the room was dark enough to get a good rest. I was super lucky my roommates were all considerate and not making loud noises at night. The best thing was the strategic location, just a step out of the hostel and there is a bus station and across the road is a MRT station. Overall, still a good place for a short stay.

Didn't mind booking the mixed dormitory as the main goal was to just relax for a few hours during my 19-hour layover in Singapore. As soon as I walked in the front door, lots of men were seated in the lobby. The entire hostel had a musty odor. The pictures don't resemble it in any way! The bathrooms, rooms, and facilities are in poor condition, everything looks shabby, and the facilities are not cleaned adequately. Since there was no reception/hostel staff present for a full day, I had to carry my bags up to the second level by stairs. Upon entering the room I was assigned to, I was greeted by a shoe rack that reeked of a dead rat. The majority of the room occupants were male, so I asked to be moved to an all girls’ dorm. I was asked to pay 25sgd more. I believed I would find comfort in the girls' dorm, but it turned out to be just the same. The room has a musty odor, the shared bathroom is extremely unclean, the toilet bowl left unflushed, the locker has no lock, and the metal material is making it noisy, while the blanket is so scratchy, giving me discomfort. Furthermore, they do not provide a free towel. They are able to give you one, but there will be an extra fee. The only positive aspect of this stay was that the staff didn't charge me for it. Overall, the experience was just awful. I could have chosen to remain in a pods hostel.

Would not recommend for the price because of how dirty and ran down it became, specifically the bathroom. Pros: - Apple Wallet Keys - smooth 24h self check in - comfortable bed - amazing location Cons: - water stopped running in the 3rd floor bathroom at 10am - dirty bathroom, when I first went in, clothes were everywhere in the sink and one of them was clogged with brown water - area around toilet was full of water - no soap in the shower - nothing extra was provided - poor placement of guests. Only me and one other guest were in the room and we were placed top and bottom instead of spread out. - my virtual keys didn't work, but luckily they answered quickly, even at 2am! - 2nd floor bathroom one of the showers have no lock, the other had a huge clump of hair

I have been lured by the review in Agoda that this place worth the price. What actually happened is 1. this place is super old, lack of good maintenance and renovation 2. room, toilet, bed are dirty and they do clean only some part of the room 3. bed sheet smell pretty bad and mattress is too soft and hurt my back badly 4. no actual locker provided, only a tray under bunk bed and that's it 5. bed makes noise in every single moves of your sleeping. I slept on the top and barely slept throughout the nights. I felt very insecure like the bed and it step could break down at anytime. (fyi my weight is less than 60kg and I wonder how others can sleep in this kind of conditions) 6. Cleaning staff is a man walking into lady only room. Feel no safe at all. 7. Main area smell pretty bad like they never clean the carpet and room is not soundproof. I heard people talking, singing, walking, closing the door in most of my staying time. This also disrupted my sleeping. To be honest, I once experienced much better budget hostel in Singapore in other place. Only recommendation to solo or budget travelers is to look for other accommodation, not here.

Best bear is a good hostel, the bed are clean, the staff are very help full and nice. fast respon👍 The location also strategic, near MRT Station Chinatown and the bus station.

Really just a place to put your head at night. I'm not quite certain of the glowing reviews, but I'm sure the countless stuffed animals were cute when first purchased years ago and when once clean and fluffy. Tips: - Bring extra $15 SGD for deposit. - Extras: $1 for towel rental during stay, additional to purchase a lock. - Pack house slippers as you must take your shoes off outside. They have a million that you can borrow, too, if you don't mind sharing things that go between your toes. Bathrooms are high traffic and not a place you want to be barefoot. - Skip free "breakfast" here of toast and cold cereal unless you are pinching pennies. March your ass down the street to get kaya toast or a Chinese breakfast. Pros: - location, but they are all more or less around here in Chinatown - Strong wifi - Helpful staff - Comfortable mattress Cons: - My pillow smelled sour, like sheets that have sat in the washer for too many hours. - Very tiny, packed rooms. Easiest to open your luggage outside of the room. If your luggage is bigger than a large backpack, store valuables only in locker as the locker is smaller than other hostels I've stayed at. - Very high traffic communal spaces = rougher bathrooms - Furniture in small common room is worn to hell and ripped - The Bears that make this place "Beary" great are pretty gross dust bunny collectors - Small rooms have aircon, but the hallways and bathrooms do not. Maybe once the Beary Best, but now just Beary crammed and quite worn.

I stayed at Beary Best Hostel during a recent sojurn in Singapore. Given my penchant for hating to write Yelp reviews, I figure I better make this one count. This is number 4! The moment you walk into the hostel you are greeted by an adorable Bear logo and friendly staff. And COLORS. Lots of COLORS. The walls are painted various shades that give off a life in technicolor vibe that are quirky and inviting at the same time. There's a comfortable common space as well with a tv, couches, and various books to read. Great place to mingle and meet other backpackers. PROS: Really clean, color themed rooms separated by gender. Self Serve Breakfast from 6:30-10:30 AM Tour package deals (re: PUB CRAWLS!) here on a budget for travelers Affordable for people like me on a budget (~30+ Sing depending on the room) Great way to mingle and meet new people Decent Internet Close to China Town MRT If you just broke up with someone, you'll have plenty of stuffed bears and teddies to hug. CONS: If you don't like colors or walls or fun personalities...this place might not be for you. If you hate bears. There are a lot of bears here. Looking forward to hitting the place up again when I'm back in Sing!
