"What was once a clanging, industrial quarry is today submerged beneath the placid waters of Beaver Dam. Marble mining in this region began in the 19th century and peaked in the 1920s, surging from hammers and chisels to cranes, sawing machines, and a 50-ton boom derrick. The stone from the Cockeysville region, famed for its hardness and polish, got its big break with the construction of the Washington Monument in Baltimore, which was the first major monument in the United States to honor the first president. The Baltimore monument is most-known for its crowning statue, which features Washington resigning his post as Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army. It was shaped out of a carved piece of marble, which was excavated as a single 36-ton block at this site. Ishmael, the narrator of Herman Melville’s Moby Dick, admired the result greatly: “Great Washington, too, stands high aloft on his towering main-mast in Baltimore, and like one of Hercules’s pillars, his column marks that point of human grandeur beyond which few mortals will go.” An extension to the Northern Central Railway was connected to the site in 1866 and fueled the quarry’s most ambitious digs. The stones transported from this site would supply the stone for both the $50,000,000 Fisher Building in Detroit and for the lower portion of the Washington monument in Washington, D.C. (The obelisk on the national mall was subject to a 25-year break in construction, during which it was halted at 152 feet. Completed, it stands at 554 feet.) Beaver Dam has been been primarily used as a swimming hole since 1934. When the swimming club first opened, swimmers paid a quarter for per visit. Although it costs slightly more today, it remains just as popular, if not more so. The swim club is open in the summer months and features swimming pools and picnic tables in addition to the 40-foot-deep quarry." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

I have to agree with the Post above that says its too expensive for what its worth. I have a question... is it normal to get your trunk and cooler searched before you come into the park or is it random guests? It was also my first and last time. Today it was $25 for adults and $20 for children. the place is truly run down. Maybe that's why the entry is so high to hopefully do some renovations? Not sure but I'll be sticking to the state parks.

This was a really good time, if you go during the weekday it’s $10 cheaper. There was plenty of room to try the diving board and swing. This place is a great family vibe with plenty of room, grills available and you can bring in food. I will be back to try out the snack bar, life vests will have a card on file.

I would definitely like to have given this place no stars, however, at least 1 is required. This place is a dump! It's unkept, the grass is loaded with poop, and I am not exaggerating when I say there is poop in the grass with every step you take. They charged $30 for adults and $25 for children to enter the park, which I found to be extreme for a place is this condition. The areas leading to the pools are old and run down, the pools are ancient, and the porta potty was full to compacity. The entire place was disgusting! It was my first and last time visiting.

Great experience. For just $30 you have access to the quarry when you can swim, jump off docks, rocks, a diving board or swing into the water off of a rope. There are also multiple pools and even a small creek you can splash in if you want. There is plenty of space to have picnics, grill, and just sit to relax. You can purchase meals and desserts if you don’t want to bring your own food and drinks (there is no alcohol allowed on the premises; they will check). I had a great time. It’s just simple, good old fashioned fun. I’ll be back

They do let you get in without life vest but for vest you do have to pay deposit cash or card info . It is small many grilling places pools 2 of them small not over 4ft seemed dirty and not well maintained also the water is really just at stand still 30$ per person on weekend is pretty expensive and not worth it also no floaties allowed in pool. Very strict also

Very organized place with the current safety precautions. Friendly staff, beautiful place. Lots of things to keep every member on the family ocuppied. I encourage you to take a floatation device we didn't bring one since we didn't know. But it's tons of fun worth the $19 admission per adult. No Alcohol allowed. Snack bar had great prices. They hit full capacity around 3pm from the time they open. If you want to use one of their grills and get a Picnic table. Basketball court, volleyball court, pool.

I was just here on Wednesday Aug 16, 2023 with 2 teenage boys. I think this place is a hidden gem. When I told people where we were going, the usual response was “Where?” or “That place is still open?” I hung out in a tube for hours while the boys did the various activities like jumping off a pier, diving board or rocks or swinging out on a Tarzan swing or climbing on floating objects. I could see all the action from my tube! The various belly flops & beautifully executed flips were great to watch! The facility could use a little TLC and the concession stand, while affordable, was VERY slow. None of these issues will stop us from returning. We hope to get one more visit in before the season is over.
