See a Rare Comet, Meteor Shower, and Manhattanhenge This Month

"A Dark Sky International–certified sanctuary and the first such designation in Michigan, this island location offers exceptionally low light pollution that makes it ideal for stargazing with binoculars or a telescope. It's recommended as a prime spot for seeing faint stars and galaxies, particularly on new-moon nights such as July 5 when skies are darkest." - Staff Author

Our expectations were more than exceeded!||The tents are cosy and deliver comfort and privacy in the middle of the remote Island. The bathrooms are warm, very clean and comfortable.||The shared kitchen offers anything professional cooking would demand.||The restrained presence of our charming hosts Maria and Brian made our short stay a truely unique experience. They have created every detail with exceptional taste and love. |If wanted both give any support or deliver any information to enjoy the stay in their refined retreat on beautiful Beaver Island.||One can choose between the privacy of the tent and the own fireplace and cooking space or meeting the other guests for a evening together in the center.||We were staying a few nights in early September 2025. The most romantic night by far was the last one, already a bit autumnal, but thanks to the hot-water bottles delivered by the staff, our beds were kept cosy and warm into the next morning.||Thank You Maria and Brian! We‘ll be back!

This past August was our fifth summer at Beaver Island Retreat, and it remains one of our favorite places to return to. Maria and Brian are truly wonderful hosts — always warm, attentive, and thoughtful in everything they do. You can feel how much pride they take in making each stay special. The large spacious tents are beautifully prepared and have everything you need for a comfortable stay in nature. There is nothing you need if you want to prepare a meal - they have it all. A private cooking area, indoor kitchen, or outdoor kitchen. The private bathrooms are spotless — truly nicer than many luxury hotels we’ve stayed in — these are just a few examples of the care they put into every detail. This year, Maria arranged a boat tour for us to explore nearby islands and archaeological sites, which ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. Beaver Island Retreat is peaceful, beautifully run, and incredibly welcoming. If you’re looking for a unique, restorative getaway, this place is something special. We already know we’ll be back again next year — it’s become a tradition we look forward to all year long.

We just returned from a way-too-short weekend trip to Beaver Island Retreat. It was such a wonderful experience. Everything you see on their website is accurate, but once you get there you'll find it's better than you expect. The wonderful hosts make you feel so welcome, and so well taken care of. The communal cooking experience was fun (but you can also cook at your tent if you want total privacy) and easy, the tents were secluded and comfortable, the bathroom facilities were clean and well stocked. We can't wait to go back and for longer next time!

Glamping has been on my bucket list, and my husband picked the perfect place to stay! The owners, Brian and Maria, were the best hosts. They thought of everything. From the welcome glass of wine to the information about the island, not to mention the best nights sleep on the most comfortable matress and bamboo sheets, we loved the experience. The surprize welcome gift of all the essentials you need was perfect. The shared kitchen was fully stocked with any kind of pots, pans, dinnerward, knives, etc...and it was fun sitting around a campfire meeting other glampers! The best was when it dipped down to 40 degrees, Maria delivered a hot water bottle for our bed, which lasted the night. We are definitely coming back!

Beaver Island Retreat! Where do I begin? One of the best experiences we’ve had! Simply put, the entire place is fantastic and well thought out. It’s like a dream camping trip where all the hard work is done and you just get to go relax and retreat. Maria and Brian were welcoming and the absolute best hosts. They took the time to interact with us and other guests and always made sure we were comfortable and felt welcome, almost like family! Whether you are looking to mingle and make acquaintances or simply be left to your own vises this is a wonderful place to do either. Needless to say we will definitely be returning and look forward to our next stay. Thank you soo much Maria and Brian, you truly are the best and your hospitality is unmatched!

From the moment we arrived, we knew this was going to be something special. Maria and Brian were incredibly welcoming and attentive, ensuring our visit felt like a custom-made luxury camping experience of Beaver Island. Their thoughtfulness and care made our trip unforgettable.||The retreat itself is everything you could dream of in a luxury camp experience—beautifully designed, comfortable, and serene. The community spaces are perfectly set up for relaxation or conversation, and everything was remarkably clean and well maintained. ||Beaver Island Retreat is more than just a place to stay—it’s an experience. If you’re looking for a magical escape with the perfect balance of adventure, comfort, and hospitality, this is it.

Oh my goodness what an unexpected surprise. We had a pretty good idea when booking what the experience would be like or at least we thought we did! Our hosts, from the moment of booking, cared about you and your experience. Maria reached out and basically said (but much better), I’m at your service how can I help? Do you need reservations, car rental, etc? And when we arrived Brian provided an overview of safety, where everything s on the island and based on what you want to experience, places to enjoy. Throughout the stay everything was provided, everything. And if you forgot something did official to you, there is. Store in town or they may have backup. We forgot our toothpaste thinking it would be provided but I didn’t read the list close enough. Everything is environment conscious but lacking nothing. They have a BBQ (or as a Texan I would call grilling shack), with anything you can imagine short of a branding iron but I bet if you wanted one they would have it for you. Everything was always clean. Bathrooms never ever dirty; immaculate, And it’s up to you how engaged you are with other guests but they have a pavilion where most people gathered for a fire, talk, laugh, play games. And on our visit we were lucky enough to see the Aurora come out to play If you’re heading to Beaver Island skip the hotels and try this out. You won’t be disappointed.

Tent was cute, safe and dry from a thunderstorm that came through sat night. We had a great time. Kitchen was a bonus to have. Bathrooms were cleaned quickly after each guest. They had called a week before to check with me on everything and I was told about the flight I could take instead of the ferry. So much faster and not much more than the ferry. The car rental was like being a teenager again. It didn't bother us that it wasn't a new car or had dust on/in it. We were happy to have a car to use on the island.

Yelp
This was such an amazing experience. When I booked online I received a call from Marie, the owner, to help book my flight or ferry and rental car. Marie took care of everything and reached out the same day to ensure everything was going as planned. When we reached the campground Marie and her husband were extremely friendly. They told us about the best beaches to visit and some details about the town. They then showed us around the site. The accommodations were beautiful, comfortable, and dry. The bathrooms were large and very clean. They supply you with everything except clothing. They have towels, soap, toothbrushes, cookware, grills, hot plates, chairs, fire wood, and so much more. I'm not a person that enjoys camping, but my significant other loves it; this was the perfect way for us both to enjoy it. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Brian and Maria are the hardworking gracious hosts/owners who never fail to exceed our expectations. Their attention to detail is amazing whether it's restaurant recommendations/reservations or a tour to nearby islands. This is our second visit to this upscale glamping venue on beaver island. The place is spotless and welcoming. We come to bike on this beautiful close knit island. I can't recommend it enough and we plan on making our visits an annual event
