Bechdel Project

Incredible space, mission, and humans!! Bechdel Project was a game changer for our project’s development and rehearsal process, allowing us to have financially accessible, dedicated time and space to experiment, play, and collaborate in a supportive environment. In a city and industry of constant fiscal and prejudicial barriers to art making, Bechdel Project is a breath of fresh air and an artist’s safe haven!

The most beautiful rehearsal studios! So much natural light and open space. My company and I are so grateful for the Free Community Space Program as it allowed us to create women-centered work without financial barriers. Maria and Jens were great hosts! Thank you!!

A beautiful community space for art-making and gatherings! As someone new to making theatre in NYC, Bechdel Project's Community Space Grant program was one of the first YESes that opened the door to making new work and meeting new collaborators.

I have had the privalege of using this space multiple times now and feel so lucky to benefit from the grace and generousity of the Bechdel Project. The space is beautiful, the people are lovely and I couldn't reccomend working with them more.

Our writing collective has met here multiple times. It is a FANTASTIC, unique space in NYC and we are so grateful for how accommodating the team at The Bechdel Project have been. There aren't many spots like this left in the city, where there is even the option of a Free Community Space Grant. All our communication with The Bechdel Project has been open, cooperative and really encouraging. As far as I know, I don't believe it's accessible for anyone with ADA requirements - so something to be aware of. But aside from that, the space is roomy, well-equipped and great for a variety of functions. Whether you're looking to dance, host a reading/ workshop, or get together for a creative co-working session, I cannot recommend TBP enough.

Shooting a short film in the Bechdel Project space was a lovely experience. Maria was more than accommodating, and our crew was treated very well. Beautiful natural window light in the afternoons, I would highly recommend to anyone looking to make a cinematic video in an easy to use space.

I LOVE rehearsing here. Maria is such an accommodating host and was able to meet all of our needs. It's wonderful to create and make art in a space that is so supportive.

The Bechdel Project generously donated their space through the community space program for the development of my new play. They were incredibly welcoming, amenable and supportive. I would reccomend working with The Bechdel Project to anyone looking for a community of a likeminded feminist artists.
