B&B Cheung Chau

"How did it strike you on arrival? This B&B has two locations, one by Pak Tai Temple and one next to Tung Wan Beach, both of which are among the most popular accommodations on the island. It's run by an Austrian family, so both locations sport homey Alpine vibes and mismatched interiors. Nice. What’s the crowd like? The omnipresent Bavarian theme tends to be divisive: You either love it or hate it. But as one of the only quality options on the island, B&B draws a steady stream of families and friends looking to unwind. The good stuff: Tell us about your room.No two rooms look alike, but some are definitely better than others. Our spacious Vienna Seaview room was among the prettier options, featuring simple, contemporary decor and a small balcony. While perfectly pleasant, this isn’t a luxury hotel and you’ll likely notice some downsides—like paper-thin walls and a shortage of plugs for appliances. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase? The hotel efficiently covers all the basics, like complimentary toothbrushes. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word?Wi-Fi is free and unlimited, but the connection can be weak at times. Room service: Worth it?As is typical of most B&Bs, you can't expect round-the-clock room service. But Eggenberg restaurant (named for the Austrian brewery) is a perfect consolation, just downstairs. The menu focuses on Bavarian- and European-style comfort foods, such as pork knuckle and burgers. As you might have guessed, the drink menu revolves around beer. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you.Every room rate includes an English-style breakfast, served in the open-air restaurant. Traveling with dogs or cats? Ask about the pet-friendly rooms. What was most memorable—or heartbreaking—about your stay? It’s a little earnest, but we dug the hotel’s Creative Workshop, full of handicrafts and with an artist who carves Austrian-style wooden hearts. Guests can paint their own, then hang it on the love lock wall across the street. There’s also an in-house Henna tattoo artist. Bottom line: worth it, and why?If you’re keen to stay overnight on a slower-paced island adventure, then Cheung Chau B&B is the best choice. The no-frills hotel promises all the basic amenities, quirky interiors, and a Bavarian restaurant serving traditional comfort food." - Kate Springer

The room was fine, big and spacious. A few things like soap missing which was unusual, but not worth a complaint. However, the staff are horrible. In case you too didn't find it clear enough, B&B is the same as Lychee hotel. Well, the staff will fight you tooth and nail that it's clear enough. Politely we asked for directions, walked up the hill to find the wrong hotel name (Lychee), and walked back down to ask again. The woman working in the gift shop opposite the padlocks had a full-on temper tantrum that I mentioned it wasn't clear enough, to which she snapped at us and literally (like, non-ironically) stamped her feet away. Couldn't help but laugh, but really shocking behaviour from staff.
